The "Explosion/light" you refer to, is probably just the sun... I mean, assuming that the other circle thing... is Elysium, it's hard to tell what that light on the horizon would be. If the other circle thing isn't Elysium, then maybe... Elysium self destructed?? I mean, Yuna said it shut down or something to that effect.... I dunno, I just think it's the sun.
Also, yes, Elysium/Heaven means paradise or something... I also think it has some tie in with Greek or Roman mythology. I actually think the entire system may've been based off those myths.

Yeah, some parts come from mythology like Juno. As for the art at the end, it was just the sun. In the picture you see Elysium (I thought it was a lot further from earth though), around 14 EDEN satellites, Terra, and the sun. If it was an explosion, it would look different. All that's in the picture are rays of light from the sun creeping over Terra’s horizon.

Except for the whole Juno is a guy thing, that sounds like a pretty good tie. And yes Juno is a guy, despite the look and voice.
