Sorry about your loss Loken, I know that feeling, I just so happened to get your request for part of my project so hopefully that can help you through this a bit. On another note all of the artwork looks amazing so far, congrats to everyone's hard put efforts and I can't wait until we get the full size views. Merry Christmas everyone!

fAB that is intrinsically fAB-ulous! Thank you so much =D You did an incredible job! I love how you combined the two requests into such a funny, original and creative piece in such a completely unique medium.

And I've mirrored the links in the first post. So give 'em a look and tell us all what you think, what techniques or styles you used, and all that jazz. This year, as I said before, I've been stuck at the residence of some random old people, and so the only art supplies I even had were the ones my best friends bought me for Christmas (there was thankfully a party on the 14th.) They must have felt like torturing me this year because I ended up with branch pencils and glitter crayons. These exact items, no less. The branch pencils worked okay until I had to go sharpen them, and my pocket knife wasn't sharp enough to do the trick, so I used the glitter crayons for the rest and the glitter didn't even stick that well. Also, branch pencils make a giant mess and get pieces of bark dust on your hands. This is, believe it or not, the second time someone has purchased me branch pencils this year. I hope this fad goes away very soon.

I'll have to wait until tomorrow before I can give feed back on everyone's works- Got a short shift, and then shopping to do. ...No one did mine... ?

...No one did mine... ? I had that one, in addition to Orion's. Sadly, I forgot in the Christmas madness. Sorry!

I had that one, in addition to Orion's. Sadly, I forgot in the Christmas madness. Sorry! ......... Outside the customary reply of "I understand", I don't know how to respond. I put a lot of work into the one I ended up doing, and I was rather looking forward to seeing who would end up doing mine's and how the interpretation of it would come out. I know it was not your intention to forget, but the disappointment still lingers...

I could do it if you really wanted, although I can't promise any results above a 6/10
(since you had to deal with my harsh description)

I could do it if you really wanted, although I can't promise any results above a 6/10 (since you had to deal with my harsh description) It was pretty simple, really- After doing some hands-on research (been a long while since I fired up MML1), I got started. A number of things influenced the end results- mostly two Nova specials I watched while drawing: 'Building the Great Cathedrals' and 'Castle'.

Well, we always mention at the start of these that there are no guarantees that your request'll get submitted. Like Muz implied, though, there's nothing stopping anyone from making it anyway, and sometimes we do a year where the premium requirement involves making a request for someone who didn't get theirs fulfilled in an earlier year.
Mr. Ninja actually didn't get his request fulfilled two years in a row, back when he did Secret Santa. Then he wound up with something like five people making art for him when the premium request was "fulfill an unfulfilled request."

I know that neither my, nor Ravenf6's submissions had the chance to be drawn or submitted, though we did do other people's submissions.
I would have spruced mine up more, but I had some other very important obligations. At least it turned out to be my funniest piece of fan art yet if I do say so myself.

Man, nobody's done that thing where they go through every submission and critique the lot? That's disheartening. It's like that one tradition that makes everyone feel like their hard work paid off, you know? I guess I'll kick it off. This is the part where it might've come in handy to have MLT's knack for embellishment, but I've always been succinct, myself. Avegodro: I can't remember the last time you drew a person facing forward, and I like Tron's face here a lot. I'm not sure if you made a mock game cover or a book cover or what, but I would DEFINITELY play it. Or watch it. I'm getting a real Christmas Special vibe. You should go make a script or something and do some stop-motion, Rankin-Bass style. Blyka: Nice Mammoo! The pun on Rock and Roll Santa Data really works...but I don't see any kind of Barrell reference anywhere. Am I missing something? And how'd you do those cracks on the ice in the foreground? Dragge: Barrell meeting a guy with the same faceplate as him? That's like going to a party and finding someone in the same dress as you. I'm sure that hasn't happened to anyone here, but there was a scene in How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying where that happened. And Mega Man has that awkward armor! And Data set the tree on fire! I'm not sure what Max and Aero are up to, but thanks for submitting this! fAB: What is it about you making really awesome stories about Teisel for Secret Santa? Part of me wants to rig these submissions so you get prompts that lend themselves well to making awesome Teisel stories for all eternity. Then the other part of me keeps telling me "That's probably not ethical." Handlebar-Orion X.: Yep, it's pretty clear what's going down here. I'd say he's about 12 years late. And Gramps is just downright oblivious to the whole thing...can't he see that Santa's real?!?! HF: Oh crap, Roll's not going to let Tron give Mega Man her present, is she? This feels like a bonus chapter of Rockman DASH: Legends just waiting to be written. Maybe using Ave's picture as the cover. Does Roll even know that she's got a gift for him? And are the Bonnes attacking the Flutter in self-defense? From the look of it, they seem to have been invited... Santa Melty: It's Glyde! I can't remember the last Glyde pic that made it to Secret Santa. It had to have been at least two years ago. Glyde's hands and expression look pretty awesome, but I can't help but wonder why the Bonnes would help bust Glyde out of jail. RyanLEO: You finished it. Yay! Actually, the chaos and the old-school marker art is pretty charming in its own right. I mean, you have everything you need for a good Christmas picture--a bazooka-toting Servbot, a flaming present, Mega Man on a rampage...you should do this sort of thing more often. The world could use more Mega Man Legends art. ravenf6: Interesting redesign of the ruins there...at first, I was just all, "He did a cave? Typical underground ruin logic," but the way you've re-implemented those green bridges over what looks like a sea of spikes, along with the choice of enemies actually works in keeping that Cardon feel while at the same time turning it into a completely different ruin. Is the blue stuff supposed to be water? MegaTuga: Way to use MMLS's resources to meet the deadline! Elyisum using Reaverbots to decorate is definitely unorthodox. Z-Mania: Ah, you're another one of those people who should really get into posting art around here more. I've never actually seen your artwork till just now. Not too shabby! I'm especially liking the detail work on Mega Man's armor and Barrett's arm. Keep it up!
So yeah, to all you first-timers, we do this. Or we try to. This group critique stuff. You don't have to have participated to join in or anything, but seriously, you'd think we'd all have a bit more to say about these? I mean, come on, it's prompt fusion! It's Legends art! It's...December 29th! Go through the lot and appreciate the art, dang it. (>_< I can't believe I'm actually saying I wish it were 2008 again...)

I'm gonna post my reviews of the pics tomorrow, I've been busy lately. On another note you're quite welcome Dashe! Max and Aero are there just because I thought that since everyone comes home for the holidays should include some of the lesser characters (sorta taken from the idea of Grill roasting the chestnuts request). As for Trigger in the awkward armor, I had voted for the other one back in the days and I still like that one more but this version had some cool shoulder armor and looked like it could use some fan love (other than the pic of Trigger getting shot down there by the zakobon). When I got the request for the awkward meetup I knew right away I had to settle (somewhat) the age old debate of if Barrel and Barrett were the same person. Well I always thought they were but you know this makes for some class A laughter!

Oh sure, build up expectations why don't you. But yeah, haven't forgotten this part of the tradition. I'll take a crack at it.
Ave: The servbot makes this one for me, actually. He's just happy to be there. “Look, I get to be in the box art too!”, he seems to say. Nice use of the logo there in the upper-left by the way, very team spirit. Blyka: Many thanks for the art. This is pretty much exactly the sort of scene I was imagining when I wrote that prompt up, so good mind reading there. Also, I think you may have gotten one of the best combinations of prompts of anyone who did the premium challenge. I swear I've actually seen a rock 'n roll Data somewhere before... Might have been in an iScribble piece. Or perhaps I'm thinking of that one official art in which he sort of had a similar pose. Though there was significantly less rocking out in that one. Clearly the inferior piece. Dashe: Good show considering your limited resources. I like the pastel look. And Data's sudden preoccupation with fire safety was worth a giggle. That banner in the background gives me an idea for an Elysium-themed font that I'll never actually get around to making and probably wouldn't have any real use for if I did. Hrm. Dragge: Good variety here, I enjoy these sorts of Where's Waldo-type entries, with a lot of background stuff going on. Interesting use of color. In some cases you only colored the outlines, and in others, you actually filled the shape... I don't know if it was intentional or just coincidental, but I think it works. And Barrel meeting his spiritual successor slash descendant slash ancestor slash himself (depending on what fan theory you subscribed to) was a nice spin on the prompt. Fab: I'm not sure there's been a long-form comic like this submitted since... mine, back in the first year? Mine, back in the first year (I happily stand corrected, you yourself did a pretty big Flash comic in '09, which surely counts). So good show, it's nice to see some sequential stuff in the mix. The texture you overlayed plus the color scheme makes for a nice effect. And Teisel's face in the second to last panel is perfect. That subtle mixture of warm fuzzies and deer-in-the-headlights. Orion: Missed opportunity to make Barrel himself Santa, I think. But otherwise, nice, humorous piece. I've seen more plausible theories as to how Trigger would get off the moon, but none of those involved Santa, so you've got the obvious leg up here. HF: Won't lie, not really sure what's going on. More than enough explosions to make up for it in my book, though. Nicely done work as always. Clean, crisp, fully colored, and all in glorious high def. I particularly like the Flutter. Very precise, mechanical linework. Muz: Many thanks for fulfilling my prompt. This gave me a brief mental image of a servbot rocket jumping over the Horseless Headless Horseman while spouting Soldier lines. That made it all worth it. Raven: A ruin built into a natural cavern, if I'm reading this right? It works. A bit busy I think, but there's clearly some thought put into it. It's been a while since I've played through Cardon, but I can see some of the design elements from the original mixed in there. Tuga: Christmas copypasta is best copypasta. I would have gone for something drawn, even if it's crummy (this event has always been partially about artistic experimentation, after all), but at the end of the day, it's the thought that counts. Hanmaru-tree was a nice touch. With mimic gifts underneath, no less. Z-Mania: If Dashe is to be believed and this is indeed your first time posting art here, good on you. As with Dragge's, I like the little background events here. Yuna was probably my favorite part. Look how proud she is of her boys. And Hanmarudoll is getting some decent representation this year.
Many thanks. And it appears so. Last Glyde was back in 2011. Incidentally, that was also mine. He also made a cameo in one of the group submissions from the same year, but was a bit less front and center there. I'm not sure at what point I became the marquee Glyde fan artist around here, but this is an upsetting trend. I mentioned this in iScribble, but there was originally going to be some poetry to go along with my gift. A letter from the Bonnes to Glyde, in limerick form or something, to flesh out the scenario a little more. It was actually going to be a bigger part of the submission than the art. Never happened, obviously. Ah well.

Ah yes. The reviews. I completely forgot.
Avegordo: That background makes me giggle for some reason. I am not sure but this really does look like a cover for a movie DVD or something. Heck there is even a logo on the top. XD
Blyka: Data is all: "I don't give a damm about what happens next" . The Mammoo is really nicely done I must say.
Dashe: Is it safe to assume that the banner translates to "Merry Christmas!" or something? Also I find that Zakobon adorable in its own way. Kudos.
Dragge: That Servbot looks desperate somehow. Probably spent a whole month inside that box. Also, finally the meeting of barrels and berets... I mean... Barrel and Barrett!
fAB: I wonder if Tiesel likes his present, also he looks so smooth sitting in that sofa. Like he is the guest of a talk-show or something. Cute Kobun is cute.
Handlebar: Dr.Light?!!! What are you... ohwait, it's Santa. And he brought a present for Roll... how thoughtful of him. it is what she wanted after all. Although Rock himself seems that he was on the naughty list... that or the landing was toasty.
HF: Darn that's a sexy Tron *drools* aaaanyway. Roll went guns blazing This time. I wonder what got her so mad... And also what could there be in Tron's present for Rock huh...?
MLT: Dang it Glyde, you should watch your diet. You are taking too much Iron. I love how there is a little card with Bonne's logo on it, so small but a nice detail.
Muz: Trigger got coal on his stocking and now he is mad. That's what I can take from this. Also a present is on fire. Data did it.
Raven: Love the circuit board-styled pillar there. And the general decoration on the walls. The ruins in MML had a lack of decoration in my opinion. Not that they need to but it's nice to look at. As your picture.
Tuga: What is this madness? This is supposed to be an art... oh wait this is mine. WHoops.
Z-mania: As it was said before, your art is very good. The little details on Barrett and Trigger's armor are cool. As well as the comic background. Rock's eyes never been this expressive. (makes me remember that cutscene between X and Zero when he reappears in X6).
*AHEM* I suppose I should give myself some explanation about my choice this year.
I let time pass. That's it. I was working the whole week (and bored to death on the weekends) and I let time pass for way too long. I was about to draw something (I even did a stupid-looking sketch to have a general idea), but I didn't had much time that day as well (about what... three, four hours?) And suddenly inspiration stroke while I went to look for references because I still think that Hanmaru Doll is a giant-sized Zakobon with arms. So yeah. I can say that it is a collaboration with MMLS since I used its resources..?
Anyway, about the picture itself. Believe it or not I had to look for a good synonym for the word "improptu" because I had no idea what it meant. And since it was safe to assume that it wasn't a musical genre but something that was done rushed improvised (just like this assignment?) I wondered what kind of decorating would there be on Elysium. So I went to look for gameplay videos until it hit me: Some Reaverbots have good shapes to represent the decorating itself. And then I wondered about Yuna and Sera trying to cheer up Rock by making a Christmas decoration but didn't knew how so they improvised. Hence the result: Hanmaru Doll Chrstmas tree (sadly no Reaverbot Star to put on top), Mimic presents, Mirumijee hanging, Kal Bache miseltoe, a Sukaritt chorus and... a turkey on the corner, attempting to escape dinner. I guess you can consider that as the "out of sight" theme at the same time. There's even an appropriate oven on the bottom right corner. Poor Sera was still hanging the Shekuten on the ceiling when the ladder (or is it a stepladder?) of Mimic boxes was disturbed by Wolfon and Karumuna Bash there. They are small mainly because there was supposed to be a fireplace in the middle and those two would be pet dogs curling in the heat of the fire. But yeah, the main focus of attention would be Hanmaru-tree and the Mimic-presents. Pay no attention to the ugly chibis please.
