Im wondering if this is a occurrence for anyone else here. I have a used copy of MML2 that I bought on Ebay some time back. Its in great condition....even came with the case. Just missing the manual as it only has the front of the manual on it. This disc however, no deep scratches, just a very light one or two as expected from a used game.
Now while playing the game, I noticed some strange responses when using the pause menu. Mostly these two things:
1) The more common oddity...when unpausing the game, it will have a delay and hang on the pause menu for a brief moment or two (mostly several seconds, sometimes even more)...This does not effect the game itself, but its a concern sometimes.
2) The rare occurrence...which I believe only happened once so far. When I attempted to unpause the game, the screen froze. The scrolling background didn't even move, and only the music could be heard.....the game froze on itself. This happened to me when i was in the middle of doing the water themed location. As you'd imagine, I absolutely hated redoing it.
So the question is, has this happened to anyone else on a perfectly good disc? Its a bit of a minor issue, but its the complete game freeze up that I worry about the most. It makes me slightly paranoid of pausing the game to look at the map or change gear at points.

My disc is far from perfectly good. It's got smudges and scratches but I've never had it freeze. That's probably your game. As for the pause delay; I haven't noticed it, but maybe I just over look it.

The pause delay can go up to 8 seconds sometimes, by random chance. So i'm guessing at this point that and the freezing is my disc. I did clean it properly but I suppose its scratched on a area that happens to have something regarding the menu...hence the ocasional weirdness.
Disappointing, really. But I'll make do with it. Or repair the scratches, some way.

You'll probably just have to deal with it. It seems to me that those scratch fixing remedies never work. Even if it's a bit buggy it's better than having to buy a new copy. I just check on ebay and it seems to got for $70+ these days!

Pretty much...I was lucky to snatch my copy for $40 back in 2011. A steal if anything. I did consider bringing it into a local Play-N-Trade, as they do disc scratch repairs for fairly cheep...but they had seemingly closed down recently. Humbug.
"Grin and bare with it" seems like the one choice i've got now. Not that I'm complaining.

I've run into the problem a bit myself, but thankfully there is a solution. Chances are that if you're having this issue, you're playing the game on a PS2. In the PS2's options screen, turn the "Fast Loading Time" off to fix it.

That...may just be it! I was playing on a PS2, so that may just as well do the trick. I dont have the game out at the moment, but next time I do get around to it i'll test it out and report back on if its resolved.
EDIT: OK, just went to check and apparently it always has been off...
Letting my roommate play the game anyway, So I will observe and see if the problem still persists on its own or not.

I've previously experienced the problem as well, though, at the time, my solution was to sort of just soldier through any loss of progress.
Upon recent play on my PS3, I haven't encountered any freezes at all. I'm not sure what difference in hardware is the contributing factor, there.

Well from what I inspected of watching my friend play the game the past few days...the lag when exiting the pause menu is gone. But we did have another freeze up. However, im 90% sure that it was just from running the game for several hours straight.
So possibly it resolved itself...? Can't really say for sure, really. Its a bit baffling.

This only happens on the NA version on the NA PS2. In addition, I get funny sounds while I am choosing options/menus at times.
If I play the NA version on a PS3, there are no game lags and freezes. In addition, all of the funny sounds are gone and the proper selection sound effect is heard.
Although the NA PS2 can be problematic at times, the JP version of Rockman Dash 2 on the JP PS2 does not have the freezes, lags, and funny sounds the NA versions contain. The Japanese versions run perfectly.

Zero, I do recall my MML2 freezing once when I opened the pause menu. I don't recall whether it was on PS2 or PSX that I was playing, I think it was PS2... but if you have a moderately ok PC I recommend trying it in ePSXe for a while and see if it still does it. EDIT: I never had that issue on the emulator.

I always had a lot of lag at the start menu with my old disc, and then I also ended up having it crash every time before going to elysium.
So with my old disc, I was never able to beat the game, but I think pat of the reason was because I "borrowed" it from blockbuster and it had one of those plastic sticker covers on the top. It didn't really have any scratches and I also made sure it was clean every time I re-tried.
