So Capcom is making a free to play Megaman-Street Fighter crossover game to celebrate their respective 25th anniversaries, and you'll be able to get it from Capcom-Unity on December 17.
So... What are your thoughts? I personally like this idea as a fan of both Megaman and Street Fighter. Plus it's free, so if you try it and don't like it, you wouldn't waste any money.

I think they've already celebrated Street Fighter's 25th anniversary, and I'm appalled that, free to play or otherwise, Capcom still seems to think they're in the late 80s. Am I the only one who's sick of Capcom's crossovers?
Oh, wait, it actually says it's 2012 in-game? Wow. I don't even know what to say to that. Just...I don't even think the free part justifies a lot of this. It's like Mega Man isn't worth[//i] its own anniversary.
EDIT: Oh, it seems to be fanmade and heavily endorsed by Capcom. I guess I hulked out prematurely? If anything, if Capcom can't beat this for the silver anniversary I'm going to hulk out even WORSE.

Honestly. After the complete abomination that was XOver, I think it's only fair and just that somebody makes a MegaMan game with decent formula and design. This thing actually looks legitimately fun.

Am I the only one who's sick of Capcom's crossovers? The answer to that is no. It comforts me a little to hear that it wasn't entirely Capcom's creation, since they've already got more than enough crossover games to their name; but it does get pretty tiresome with every new addition that they endorse. I'm not really a Street Fighter fan, so some [if not all] of the potential charm for the game just isn't there for me. In addition, I don't think it was a very wise decision to slap the 25th anniversary logo on it; all that did was give me a real headache. However, I'll probably give it a whirl since it's more Megaman than Street Fighter, and because it's free. It's pointless to let something perfectly good go to waste, so yeah. Cheers to Capcom-advertised fangames and stuff.

My kneejerk reaction to this was: "Man, I know MM and SF have the same anniversary, but was it really necessary to make a game for both of them? Megaman should have his own game."
And then I remembered that this was a fan game we had seen a while back. Shoot, it's free too! I think this is a pretty good opportunity; Capcom taking notice of fan talent can't be a bad thing, and the game itself looks like it'll be fun. I only hope that Capcom has more in store for MM's 25th besides this and Xover.

That's the one thing I have against this fangame- it's become another shoe-horning of SF, and I've seen more SF than I care to remember, this year. But I do see one good thing about it- being able to show the SF cast the business end of a mega buster, so I might check this game out. Shoe-horning from Capcom aside, I will say that the fan who made this put a lot of work into it.

Woah. Raven, you've just brought up a veeeeeery valid point as far as shooting Street Fighter characters goes. If this is compatible with a USB controller I might actually fork over some nothing and download it.

I remember seeing snippets of this game a year or two ago. It looks like they've managed to piece it together quite well. If you all want a game that's Mega Man only, there are other fan games (like the one I'm doing), spiritual successor games (like Rokko Chan) and hacks (linking to those is a no-no) that have been released in the last year or two.

I don't mind the series at all. For awhile, that series was where Mega Man mostly is right now. Abolished to a corner where it was just remakes, and that one also had its fair share of disappointments before going into obscurity. Nothing on the level of XOver, but I remember some iffy quality games in the early 2000s or so.

Indeed. I don't hate SF, personally, just what it's become in recent years. I feel the same way. I'm a big fighting game fan, but honestly none of the recent SF titles have interested me at all. The last SF game that I legitimately liked was Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike. That said this looks like it'll still be a fun game to play regardless, and I'm looking forward to seeing how they mesh SF elements in Megaman stages. Also, am I the only one tired of people shoehorning Megaman into an 8-bit franchise? I thought Megaman 8 went a long way in updating the look of the series (although it wasn't perfect), but ever since MM9 they've been trying to keep it retro. They really need to stop doing this sometime soon; Mario and Sonic have evolved and are successful franchises, but Megaman can't seem to keep up.

That's "SketchMan3". Capital S, capital M and the number 3. It's official (nicknames are ok, though)

I don't mind Capcom's crossovers.
Megaman has ALWAYS had trouble keeping up with the ever evolving Mario and Sonic franchises. They tried sports, cart racing, 3d, etc, and they all failed in some way or another.
I think Capcom is genuinely just really bad at the mascot game game.
The "shooting SF characters = win" sentiment reminds me of how I feel about that Megapony fan game... hehehe

I'm more of a fan of the MM8/Powered Up stuff than I was the 8-bit games, but I have no problem with them churning out an 8-bit title if it's still of high quality. 5 and 6 didn't feel like that back to me in the day which is why the change was refreshing for Mega Man 7. With 9 and 10, the quality was back to the "good old days", and I quote that since I wasn't a fan of the classic series until long after those days. Heck, I'd love to see them try to bring a bigger budget into things and make an Archie universe shooter type of game, but it has to still be Mega Man themed. Since that's a huge risk, I'm pretty sure Capcom will keep playing it safe. You don't want to risk damaging an already fractured fan base.

It comforts me a little to hear that it wasn't entirely Capcom's creation, since they've already got more than enough crossover games to their name The nice thing about this crossover is that it isn't another button-masher fighting game. It's a action platformer, which gives it a lot more merit. The Street Fighter element here only seems to be an attention grab; instead of unique bosses that wouldn't yield the (presumably well-made) fangame any attention and force it to languish in obscurity like so many of the other decent MM fangames (insert your favourite here), it uses Street Fighter characters and is suddenly notable enough to be mentioned on CapU. I'm not a fan of Classic MM or Street Fighter, but I can appreciate the silliness of the scenario, and the fact that the Street Fighter element doesn't appear to be absolutely integral to the gameplay at all. There's not much reason to get offended over something like this, aside from the fact that it's probably miles better than what Capcom had planned to do, had they planned to do anything.
