Hey guys, it's that time of year again! The holiday rush is in full swing, and hopefully nobody's burned the house down trying to bake anything yet. So without further ado, I present to you...
For those of you who are unfamiliar with our Secret Santa tradition, every December we do an art exchange. You do not have to be a good artist by any stretch of the word to participate, and in fact, if you aren't a good artist, that puts you at an advantage.
As in past years, you get a badge (designed by the lovely and talented Chiz) for participating. Other than that, there are no prizes and there is no guarantee that you'll get something back. It's more about fostering a spirit of giving and camaraderie between everyone here. Participants are encouraged to use this opportunity to try out a technique, program, style, or medium they're unfamiliar with, so if you're unfamiliar with making art at all, then the sky's the limit! Expand your artistic horizons, make someone else smile, and produce some new Mega Man Legends fanart. It's a win-win all around!
The Logistics:
Sign-ups are now closed. Best of luck to all participants.
Your request must be Legends related and summarized in four words or less. Since I'd rather nobody need to do too much extra research for this event, OCs, self-inserts, and crossovers will not be permitted. Characters introduced through the Legends 3 prototype development are fine, though. Choose your four words carefully! If you do not want any mature content in the art you receive, be sure to note it that below your request, too.*
Everyone participating will get someone else's request via PM on the 12th, courtesy of emeltee's patented Secret Santa Randomizer applet. Any medium is free game as long as it's visual and honors your assignment's request. In the past we've had animation, 3D models, paper cutouts, comics...actually, our fanart gallery has archives of the last few Secret Santas, if you're short on inspiration and ideas for interesting things to try.
Submit all entries to me via private message by 11:59 PM EST on December 19th. It also helps to include a 700x400 thumbnail as well, because starting on the 20th, fAB will be posting previews of the images on the main site's homepage to get everyone pumped, and on Christmas Day in the wee hours of the morning, all of the images will be revealed in their glory by, uh, Santa Claus.
...One more thing. If you haven't noticed yet, starting in 2009 we've offered a premium badge to anyone who goes above and beyond the call of duty and completes a second task. To get the premium badge this year, participants must create and submit a second image showing themselves creating their assigned piece. Creativity is again highly encouraged. You can even draw yourself as a penguin or a stick figure or something weird if you'd like, as long as it illustrates the process well. You might even teach someone something new along the way!
So get out there and make someone's holiday a little brighter! Sign-ups begin immediately.
*If you do use mature content to create your image, be advised that since the main site is strictly safe for work, it may be omitted from the homepage and official archives at fAB's discretion.
