From my long past with NP (as a reader,) the Hoff is a really nice and open guy that knows the industry better than just about any other journalist out there. I'm sure he's gonna take our questions seriously and give us the straight facts, probably even some feelings he has on the game's cancellation.

I remember this article. I hope we find out some interesting information and spread some more light onto Legends 3.

Roast Beefs, Motorhorses, Teisel, and a... Garudoriten? Capcom... Well, that article definitely had me hooked from beginning to end. I'm glad to hear the opinions and spoilers behind the Prototype, but it's just not the same. It all boils down to the same question: Why? :21:

After reading that article, I just want this project to be reinstated even more. They cancel a great game like the Megaman Legends 3 Prototype Version but continue making the next Devil May Cry game, a game that has only succeeded in royaly ticking off the entire DMC fanbase?? EgimawhaaaaaaT??! I gotta let my inner Steve Wilkos come out.

No wonder the Prototype version wasn't released. The game had areas "under-construction" and explanations on how the final game was going to work, a game which was cancelled.
They would have had to modify some things so it's not confusing for non-MML's fans, but that would take time and money. Thus, Capcom said no to release the Prototype version.
Such a pity...

It still would've been worth the risk, IMO. Even at this point, after all this time there is STILL nothing new of quality for people to download, and an extremely positive response would have been likely. The 'under construction' areas actually sounded pretty campy and effective, and it'd have been nice to get some new fans at least aware of the series. It's evident that for the price Capcom was asking, the content was much more than worth the cost, and that would have definitely showed in the most concise, Capcom-exec-friendly way that not making the game would be a horrible, horrible mistake.
I'm under the impression that the devs held it back to put the new Mega Man in the Prototype for the debug room, myself. There really didn't seem to be much 'wrong' with the game from what Hoffman said, and it would have played a huge part in upping the demand.

Gonzo Goodwin is a fantastic name for a police chief—he must have been zany.

Wow, reading this it seems the Prototype Version would've been pretty good. Look at that missions list- 10 of 'em, all very diverse and gameplay heavy. Just...wow. Some points: - The fact that the game was "for all intent and purposes, finished but not released" does put those delays into serious question, but then again we'd known the delay was suspicious for a while. : /
- Looking at what's stated to be in the game...seems we're missing out on quite a bit. Starting from the control options, including the ability to play it MML1 style (!), to the funny references and naming gags (Kattelox Wheat? A police officer named Gonzo? 'Oh My Gyros'? The 'Roast Beef' gang? XD), and the combat and bosses still retaining that Legends charm...no mistake, we Legends fans would've loved to get this.
- That part about Barrett having been on Teomo for a long time might put a bit of a dampener on the 'Barrett is Barrell' theories. And yet Roll says Barrett 'seems like family'...new theory: Barrett is Roll's long-lost real brother. And regarding Barrett, it seems he was indeed helping Roll to get Mega Man, though not at such a scale as we'd thought. Interesting also that the plot summary for the actual MML3 (see below) implied that Barrett's group would go into competition against 'ol Volnutt's group and the Bonnes. Must've been some kind of bad team break-up.
- And I think that's the first indication we've gotten about what Mega Man Legends 3 (the non-Prototype Version)'s actual plot would've been- a three-way race for the Klicke Lafonica. I strongly rue the fact that we may never get (this version of) MML3, if just to answer questions like that.
In the end, it's a true shame we never even got this Prototype Version, the reasons for which are unclear to this day. If only we could reverse that somehow, but alas... Adrian2040: The writer of the article implied that the cardboard cutout buildings were placed there intentionally, i.e. the area would have been empty otherwise but the devs decided to go the extra mile here and create mockup building to simulate to the player what the area would look like when it's finished.

I'm glad that he had answered the fans their questions. I found a lot of the answers to be quite interesting.
What confused me the most would have to be the whole Barell/ Barrett thing. If it's possible that he's Roll's long lost brother, how come he doesn't have a relationship with Barrell then? Unless the whole thing would have been explained in MML3?

Shouldn't have read this. Now I'm depressed all over again about losing Legends 3...
Oh and Dashe, your link in the first post is broken.

This sounded so awesome. I had always wanted another siege of some sort like the Nino Island siege. When I read that the first mission was to evacuate the island because of reaverbots falling from the sky I just lost it. That's exactly how I wanted it. I know we've all seen the video of it but knowing just what was going on made it awesome. I'm telling you, if Cacpcom backs off of canceling this game, I think we'd see some serious stuff.
