Mine is definitely Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4.
Most people prefer Persona 3: FES over Persona 4, but I don't get why. I've played 3 FES, but I still like Persona 4 more.
Persona 4 has: - A much better story (According to me) and an Epic Finale in the True Ending. (Meaning no straightforward epilogue like in FES) - Social Links with male characters from your party (Just Friendship) - A more structured level system instead of just a single massive one. - No Jealousy System (Meaning you could continue visiting other female friends and/or "be a pimp") - No Reverse Social Links at all. (Makes managing your in-game time easier) - Having the ability of befriending females instead of always having to be their girlfriends. - A better Persona system that's more complex and rewarding. - Memorable bosses from beginning to end. (There. I said it.)
Misc Persona 4 Things: - A Manga and a Anime. (Though Persona 3 got the FES and "de-enhanced" Portable versions "enhanced" with different extras.) - Extra Episodes via Audio (I really liked the storyline.) - I liked the music better. (It included a Music CD) - Teddy! (Best Character EVER!) - "Protagonist" looked like me. (And I gave him my name and sirname to boot.)
Hopefully the next post will give me their opinion instead of asking: "What's a Shin Megami Tensei" game?

I've only played the first Shin Megami Tensei game, and Catherine, which only sort of counts as a SMT game. Both were insanely awesome, though. I hope I can get Persona 4 from a friend, heard tons of good things about it and watched him play it a lot.

I love a lot of SMT games. From Persona to Digital Devil Saga passing by Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha. However, my favorite game of the SMT series is Devil Survivor for the DS. The game is a tactical RPG, close to Tactics Ogre and in the same style as Final Fantasy Tactics and Fire Emblem.
The game involves you and your friends being trapped in Tokyo under a lock-down to respond to a demon outbreak. You have 7 days to stop the lock-down before everyone dies. To fight back against the demons, you are granted a COMP which allows you to contract and summon demons to fight on your side.
What really makes it special is the Death Clock and Laplace Mail. A single digit number appears above people. That number represents the estimated days before he or she dies. Depending of your actions, you can alter the predicted numbers by saving them. Inaction or, in some cases, failure to respond to someone's predicted demise will seal their fate.
The battle mechanic is classic Tactical RPG style. The units are on a grid and once you engage an opponent, you go for a round of turn based battle.
A 3DS version called Devil Survivor Overclocked is coming out this Tuesday. Furthermore, Devil Survivor 2, one of the last DS games that's gonna come out, has been released in Japan and will be localized. If you like Tactical RPGs, this one is worth a shot.

I never tried Devil Survivor, but I decided to wait for Overclocked rather than buying the DS version. I hope it is as good as everyone says.
I'm planning to get the Devil Survivor 2 for the DS once it gets released. (I doubt it will have an enhanced version any time soon.)
