Yeah, I was quite surprised how little they altered this one. In fact, most of the alterations they attempted were repealed. (larger legs, the ring around the eye) When they revealed this ... thing as the winner, it seemed like a really odd choice to me, and even after their changes, it still feels a bit a lot out of place. (You don't have to agree.) Feels like it demands a very specific situation to be used, and indeed, as Ishihara noted: “It's still undecided exactly how we'll [DASH 3 team] use this Reaver in the game and how much of it we'll see ...” But honestly, the lack of major changes to the design may be a reflection of the fact that Servbot #2395 did a fantastic job providing that blueprint. That would make sense.
It will be interesting to see how they incorporated a Calamity easter egg into the Prototype Version. They say he's not ready to be included in the game yet, but there should be some kind of nod to him there, so yeah...

My prediction is it will be used as a miniboss every once and awhile. Can't really use something like this as a regular unit. The setting it is used in...now that's a problem. We could have it in an open field just like the Juraid, but I don't want something like this to be out of the ruins the whole time.

I actually like that they retained most of its original appearance. But I am very impressed that they consulted the original designer for those little things they were having problems with. That's just great.

Yeah I thought that it was pretty cool that the dev team contacted the designer to get his thoughts on things. Calamity is rather odd for a reaverbot and I never would have guess it to win, but who knows maybe it's best to break convention. I must say the most disappointing thing about it to me is the designer. Now he did make a great design and I won't take that away from him. He got a great honor in getting his design into a beloved series and even getting some direct correspondence from the dev team (something no other winner that I know of has gotten) and I was really hoping that this honor would go to a big fan of the Legends series. Perhaps he is a fan but I never see him in the devroom except to promote 4chan in the middle of Ben's apology thread and I find that disappointing. But perhaps he is more of a lurker; he also responded when people were talking about him in the stripeburger thread. He did say that he is Chinese living in Malaysia so IDK maybe he's timid. Anyway, what's done is done and I look forward to blowing in up in the new game.

I was hoping for a more extreme make-over. I really like the redesigned Donner Wels, but I still don't like Calamity, not very good. It would only really work if other reavers were distracting it. I have no idea what possessed the devs to pick it, there were so many better entries.

I still think everything regarding that one reaverbot is... questionable. Honestly, reaverbots were mostly made to be loved or hated, either way. I won't have any true feelings for it until I've seen it in battle. Sometimes the oddest of things wind up being the most dangerous, y'know?

I think they were looking for mostly creativity. And Calamity certainly was, and it was a lot more creative than any of the other entries I had seen. I certainly couldn't think of something like that.
And maybe I'm the black sheep of the forums, but I like it. I really like it for what it is. Besides, aren't Reavers SUPPOSED to be bizarre?

I have no idea what possessed the devs to pick it, there were so many better entries. Tombstagger 4eva. ... <3 I'm still shocked it didn't even get so much as an honorable mention. That Reaverbot Event kind of really disappointed me all over. Regarding the changes, I do have to say I agree with Dr. Jerk and tominator that it's absolutely awesome they consulted the designer rather than just throwing it all out the window and redesigning however they saw fit. Kind of makes me wonder if CAPKobun had any say in the changes to ol' Donner. I'd imagine not, or else they would've mentioned it, but oh well. Anyway, I still think they could've done more to Legendsify the design, even if they were going to coordinate that with the designer.. It's hardly a big deal, though.

Well I have to admit, Tombstagger doesn't really have a true Reaverbot feel to it. There's something off about it's style. Sure I was wowed when I first saw it, but it posted fairly early on when there were a lot of subpar entries. I think the only thing people truly liked about Tombstagger, was because of its elaborate design and the fact that it was made in a 3D modeler with similar textures to the first two games. Frankly if it did got in, it probably would not be my favorite.
I mean, the design looks like it belongs in a different series.
Calamity has a more natural Reaverbot feel to it, and I'm not saying that just because I like it. I may not have played a lot of Legends, but that's how it feels to me.

I like how Calamity is the first of it's kind. A weather controlling reaverbot, that's something unique. I'm glad it won, I just wonder how it's going to be used.

The most interesting part of that whole report, IMO, was when Ishihara and co. actually contacted #2395 (anyone else not like the impersonal-ness of referring to people by thier Servbot numbers? And/or get the irony of the situation?) to get his original plans for the design. It really shows that they intend to be serious about the whole 'co-development' thing, even if they have to cross a language barrier to do so.
As for the design of the Calamity itself...to be honest when I first saw the design, I wasn't too fond of it. But over time, and with the redesign, its merits have made themselves apparent; for instance, the shape of the reaver resembles a stylized coffin or even an iron maiden, which is very fitting all things considered. The tallness of the 'bot is still a point of worry, but as the Devs are still working on ironing out the last few kinks I have confidence they'll adjust it by the release of MML3 (hopefully! D : ).

People are worrying about Calamity even though we have no idea how it'll be implemented into the game.
If anything, I imagine that it's probably going to be a boss of sorts in the outside. Outside would work well for the weather-theme alone. But if it's going to be in ruins, then it can work in a very large room all the same. The sizes of Reaverbots, and tall'ness, has never posed problem with the other three titles. Take Lake Jyun's boss for example. While not as tall as Calamity maybe (it looks like they made it a bit shorter with the redesign though), it was still pretty tall and was able to work just fine.

I'm with Mikey, basically. The design doesn't really do anything for me, but I don't want to judge it until I've actually seen it in action.
I'm bummed that nobody's remembered Kankan's actual username, and surprised that they'd contact him as #2385 instead of #9, which I'm pretty sure is his premium number. (And I assume he's a him, since most of the CUers called him a him and he's never corrected them.)

I'm looking forward to fighting Calamity (or Gessukukoboro or whatever they'll name it.) I kinda like those Scroll Award Reavers. Kaetoriizu was probably my favorite Reaver tho get an award. Buruguruhan was pretty cool too.
