Ok lets try this again.......chickened out and deleted the post yesterday. I have the idea of a viral marketing campaign for event six. Yet I lack thoughts on how to bring this bad boy up to par. Any thoughts, ideas or comments are welcome. What thing about legends would make a good viral marketing campaign?

Well, as I'm sure you know, to be a successful viral marketing campaign it has to be something people want to watch and share with their friends, quite a feat really. This is usually accomplished through humor, usually slapstick, or something unusual (will it blend?).
Key attraction to legends include:
The story: it's funny on it's own, but it would likely be difficult to attract new fans unfamiliar to the storyline on this basis.
It's a Megaman game: General Megaman fans far outnumber Legends fans. These people furthermore will have some background in the series so they might already be close to supporting it; or they view legends as an abomination due to how it is different from the standard Megaman fare. I don't have the best background in other Megaman series besides Zero, so I don't really know how to appeal to them.
Servbots/Kobuns: They're one of the few elements of Legends that has spread to other series and have a wider appeal. Further they are by nature humorous and slapstick. I think that creating video clips of Servbots doing servbot antics could be amusing and people might be interested in watching it.
Community involvement: Lots of young videogame players want to be developers. If we could promote how they are giving us an inside view of the creation process, and possible get our ideas (and names) in the credits it could attract this crowd. I think this could be one of the strongest points currently. How to virally market this is slightly beyond me.
Sorry I'm not much help, I'll try to think up some more stuff as well.

The Devroom reruit ment video springs to mind. Since there is no REAL details about the game I think it will have to be 100% animated. I really don't know.

I definitely think it'd be a good idea to play up the development aspect of the Devroom, considering how many people there are on the Internet who want to work in game design.

Using the most recognizable aspects of legends to get more people. Play up the dev room aspect for game designers. Recruitment video. I see this working if put together right. I still have nothing...........for the life of me I can't think of anything good. So thanks anyways guys if anyone wants this idea they can have it.

I was thinking in the shower for the last week or two about this, and I've half came up with an idea. How about the Devteam makes a new promotional video for every new event? They could explain the rules there, give a few examples and show off the previous events winners as well. If you guys think this is worth posting please tell me.

Yeah, you've got three shots, too. Don't forget to put your Servbot number in your post and which idea number you're on.

You know what, I'm not going to let some emotional relapse and idea block stop me either.
I'm going to think of something for this viral campaign if its the last thing I do!

That's the spirit! I'm going to try to think of another idea. These guys could use all the help they can get, even if it's a shot in the dark.

Hears what I plan on posting, if you guys have any ideas you would want to add to it, or have a better way to state it, then by all means.
First entry. Servebot #002658 I think if people saw more promotion videos showing our progress in the event they would come around to joining the Devteam because they would see how much fun it is, and how they can get involved in the project, with the previous winners serving as examples of how their ideas can get into the game.
In these videos you could announce the next event, while giving examples and advice for it. Not only that but you could announce the winners of the previous event there and have members of the Devteam comment on the winner and the runner-ups.

That sounds like exactly like a less-rushed version what they did the first time they made a promotional video. What if it were a video geared more towards regular gamers who wanted to get into the industry and become designers? Include the behind-the-scenes stuff. It'd increase the scope a lot more.
