Woah, massively massively ninja'd?
On Seasonal RPing--might not be a bad idea there, either. Or at the very least, there should be sign-up deadlines for GM'd campaigns, so people aren't indecisively dancing around whether or not to jump in for weeks. See Z-Day for details.

Hm. Seasonal RPing? That would mean that the RP'd be timed, right? Set to last from one date some month to another date a few months later? : o

It was a random idea, to be honest. Dashe, I really don't mind your idea. I feel bad that I have responsibility over this section, but I'm never around. But...I'd feel worse if this section were actually active. I'm down for anything, I can keep playing the RP Keeper gig, or we can move everything to the Forum-Games.

What's everyone else have to think about relocating the section to games and making it a free-for-all?

I feel like real RPs kind of deserve to be treated separately from Forum Games/Mumbo Jumbo, on account of the fact that they're, you know, real. But the free-for-all scenario sounds like it would be more successful. Then again, really, what's to stop people from doing free-for-all RPs in Forum Games or Mumbo Jumbo right now? Would it really be changing anything? Wouldn't that just effectively be closing the RP section?
And I'm all for time-limits even if we don't do seasonal RPs. It sounds harsh, but it would probably be a good way to keep RPs from dragging on longer than they should and then just dying due to lack of activity. >.<

lol All of the two RPs I've come up with for this place had time-limits. And both had everything to do with the Undead.
ftw.

How about The RP's just be a sub-board?

@pitch-- People are doing free-for-all RPs in Mumbo Jumbo now. You just don't acknowledge them as RPs. Hm, maybe swap out the News, Politics, and debate section with an RP subforum in GD, then?

I don't think anyone will miss that forum very much.

@pitch-- People are doing free-for-all RPs in Mumbo Jumbo now. You just don't acknowledge them as RPs. Err... no, that's exactly what I meant. I don't get why it would even be necessary when there are RPs going on there right now. Why not just shut the doors on this section and start advertising that RPing is allowed in Forum Games? The only thing that would really need to be moved are the existing RPs from Mumbo Jumbo to Forum Games. Or just leave them in Mumbo Jumbo. Same difference, really.

Duh! :37: Yeah, that's a good point. Those really shouldn't be in Mumbo-Jumbo, since people aren't doing anything totally dumb in them, like pulling a Venyumack.
Anyway, if all we did was stick them in Forum Games, it might be more difficult to get a serious, GM-run RP going. Especially since Forum Games was really just designed for those goofy nonsensical sort of games like "Post something you like about the person above you" or the like. Hence maybe merging Pop culture and News, Politics, and Debate and making a separate RP subforum.

Hmm...
I'm thinking just making it a free-for-all, as Dashe suggested, but still keeping the section separate for organizational purposes (maybe move it into a sub-forum or something, but still keeping it separate). Let people come in, start up games as they please, and manage them as they see fit.
I think the process you have to go through to run an "official" RP is/will be a deterrent to people looking to start one up. So they look for alternatives, and we get quasi-RPs dotting the rest of the forum. And they can't be filed here because of the stringent definition we've got of what an RP is and how it should be managed, so they end up in the Mumbo Jumbo. Or Games. Or what have you. But really, the RP section seems by far the most appropriate place for them imo. The only thing preventing it is a bit of red tape.
Nothing, but it'd be more organized keeping those little freestyle RPs together with the more formal ones. It might not do the serious ones justice, but it wouldn't be as though they'd get lost or anything. There still aren't that many of them. And if one is needed to separate the serious ones later, one could be added easily enough, I figure.
You people post too fast sometimes. Or I post too slow. Something.

Anyway, if all we did was stick them in Forum Games, it might be more difficult to get a serious, GM-run RP going. So long as there's a way to differentiate that silliness you guys are doing now from the serious, GM-run RPs, I'm happy. But I thought the idea was to abandon the idea of serious GM-run RPs in favor of the free-for-all RPs anyway? Because those are more likely to be successful? Ack. Ninja'd. I know what you mean, mlt. I can't stand when the forums get like this. It's so hard to keep up! >.<

Nah, the idea was just to abandon the idea of an RP keeper who'd be stuck doing the GMing, so essentially anyone could GM if they wanted to take the time and plan out a serious RP for other people to play through without having to run through an RP bureaucracy.

On the first point we disagree. I don't think differentiating the levels of serious is necessary at this point. There just aren't enough RPs yet to bother trying to sort them by seriousness.
On the second point, what Dashe said. People would still be able to create their own serious RPs if they want. But right now, no one seems to want to, and in the meantime we've got a forum section getting no use. Cutting the bureaucracy and just using it as a catch-all for serious and un-serious RPs seems reasonable to me. If more regulation is need later, that can be added when the time comes.
EDIT: Also, no, I probably won't be participating in any future RPs. Tried the first couple. They were fun, but I just couldn't keep up with them in the end. Just don't have the time or drive.
