Can anyone answer this for me. Why can't I log on? I've registered twice under similar user names. The passwords i put in during registration haven't worked and the passwords the site has given me while clicking on "I forget my password" and getting an e-mail don't work. Does anyone have a solution?

Have you tried logging in via the flash bar at the top, as opposed to the giant normal Login button (or vice versa)? Their site is incredibly finicky and unstable at times, for whatever reason (perhaps too many mods/hacks piled on top of each other?) and I know there was at least one point where logging in via the javascript popup wouldn't work, but the flash bar at the top would...not to mention having to play with enabling or disabling flashblock, adblock and noscript to find the magic combination for that particular hour for it to work...not fun.
Alternatively, can you give us a copy of whatever error message you're getting, if you're getting one? Perhaps what you have tried and the outcomes of them?

tried logging in using the top bar and it says I have to respond to the verification e-mail. I click on the link the the e-mail and it takes me to my page but where do I go from there. It says I can't view anything because a)privacy and probably b)I'm not logged in. I try logging in from there but it doesn't work.

Have you tried logging on unity and then click the link you got from e-mail without closing your browser? You can also try refreshing the page or logging on again after clicking the confirmation link. Since you registered twice, make sure you using the correct user and password with that confirmation link.
If it doesn't work still, you should make screenshots to help us see what's going on.

Did you try rebooting? Sometimes you need to reboot up to three times to get it to work.
