I thought this news was old hat. ... Unless I'm mistaking a rumor for a fact... Yeah, it was just a rumor at the time. Capcom unveiled that they were working on a portable version of the MT Framework, and it was speculated that it might be used for Legends 3, but that was only just confirmed now. You can see the article (from October 1st) on Protodude's, and it's referenced again when they posted the news yesterday. You could say it was obviously true, and this just really serves as confirmation. Yeah confirmation is cool. It's funny, now that this game is announced we can find out exactly how many of out theories were crazy or not. Now they need to tell us about the PSP DASH ports and how they intended to test the waters, and then NamcoXCapcom having hidden Morse Code hinting about the Nintendo 3DS. I'll die laughing if either of these come true. Although, I really can't see it happening, to be perfectly honest. The PSP thing wouldn't add up. (If those were meant to test the waters, they would've told Capcom, “come on in; the water's fine” a long time ago) Maybe the Namco×Capcom thing, though.... xD You never know. Maybe they even read every single signature of every stupid little petition that popped up over the years too!

As a general rule of thumb, if Capcom isn't asking for your input on a specific subject, they're probably not listening. Opinions on the devroom forums are worth no more than opinions here, if you ask me. It's just another forum on the internet. Allow me to rephrase. I meant to say that the Devroom would be the only place Developers would even consider the opinions of fans. Of course, they may be listening, they may not be, but if you want your ideas heard, the Devroom is definitely the best place to go. Well, I'm not one who would be shy to demand, or at least highly suggest that they bring back the control style from previous games. We've been playing the same set of Legends games for over 10 years, and for a sudden, forced change of controls/mechanics to just take place would definitely throw me off, perhaps even risking the original, comfortable feel of gameplay from the previous games should they consider utilizing drastic changes. Of course, this isn't to say that I'd be against any other optional control schemes, so long as they are optional. Of course, you could say "as long as they work, it's fine" but I'd rather they stick very closely to the formula they've given us already.

If I seem to remember correctly the control was one of the main complaints among "the people." Obviously, we are used to the control scheme but new players to the series are not going to be as familiar with the controls.
Capcom has the lovely task of selling this game to the "hardcore" legends fans and as well to a new consumer base. If they don't do it right, it will wind up just like before. A series dead in the water.
I haven't played either Lost planet or Dead Rising so...YAY for this new engine.

You guys have forgotten about the magic of multiple key config pre-sets and the ability to simply map the controls to whichever button you'd like. Seems like the best solution to me, unless anyone is willing to give a good counter-argument.

We also have to keep in mind that the 3DS, as far as I'm aware, doesn't have two pairs of shoulder buttons. So the controls will have to be adapted for that. Although it might be close to the PSP versions of DASH 1 and DASH 2... I never played those though.

I've heard developers say that two games with the same engine doesn't make them likely to be similar. So I think we probably don't have to worry about Legends 3 having Dead Rising controls or anything like that. We have to expect them to design the game's control to best suit the platform and the gameplay style. I still think the PSP port's control is the most likely bet, unless they want to go all out and use the touch screen as a mouse courser, but that seems like over kill.

@darfox I really hope they keep the touch-screen usage to a minimum. >_< There are some DS games that just make me wish I had three hands. :06: Nightshade The PSP controls were pretty good. L+R becomes Lock-On, and to look around freely you used the analog nub. 3DS could match those controls one-to-one and it would be able to handle just about as close to the original PSX games as possible. Well, I'm not one who would be shy to demand, or at least highly suggest that they bring back the control style from previous games. We've been playing the same set of Legends games for over 10 years, and for a sudden, forced change of controls/mechanics etc. etc. etc. OK, well first of all you're confusing yourself timeframe wise. We've been playing the same set of Legends games for over ten years. The games themselves came out ten years ago. There's nothing wrong with Capcom if they want to use a control scheme that wasn't typical back then. Your argument would be a bit more valid, if they'd been releasing Legends games for the past ten years with the same control scheme, and they only just decided to change it now. The only thing I can say is if you want the game to be exactly like the 10+ year-old games you've been playing... why don't you just stick with those games in the first place? Second, though it's almost the same, I just want to point out that it's been ten years without a sequel. Absolutely nothing about this is “sudden.”

Is this MTFramework the same engine used on Devil May Cry too? because my brother always told me about some fight against a flying demon that looks like Geetz, assuming this, i wonder how the game will look.

Devil May Cry, you say? Hmm... ∗ looks it up ∗ Ah. Yes, Devil May Cry 4 used the MT Framework. That's pretty cool; that game handled very nicely. I've really got to get back to that game sometime... <3 (I don't remember any battles quite like Geetz, though — maybe my memory's just fuzzy, though...) Looks like Wikipedia has a nice list of games that have used the framework thus far, too. It's a short list, but you can see that a variety of games have been pushed out using the MT Framework, so I wouldn't worry too much about Legends 3 handling too much like any of them in particular.

You guys have forgotten about the magic of multiple key config pre-sets and the ability to simply map the controls to whichever button you'd like. Seems like the best solution to me, unless anyone is willing to give a good counter-argument. @general- Well of course, that's always a must. But there is a difference between game controls (which buttons you press) and game mechanics (how actions and movements handle in-game.) As for game controls, or a button layout, I think Capcom would definitely go for something more familiar, but game mechanics (EX: How Megaman walks, like full 360 degree movement VS original 8-Way controls, etc) are what concerns me a bit more. @pitch- Whoopsies, that was bad word choice on my part. Regardless, since this game was practically brought about from a decade of begging from Legends Fans, I still feel it would make more sense to keep the controls and mechanics close to what fans would consider as familiar and comfortable. Probably along the lines of the controls/mechanics they gave us for the PSP ports. (I'd seriously like to get my hands on one of those, do they really play as smoothly as they do on the home console?) Well anyways, customizable as well as secondary controls should definitely be available, for the purpose of catering to newer fans or those who felt uncomfortable with the original controls. However since the game itself is mainly targeted towards those who are familiar with the series, I still think it'd be a wise choice on Capcom's part to make sure those familiar controls are still there. Oh, you know. Plot progression. New enemies to fight. Seeing all my favorite, beloved characters again. Meeting brand new people and characters. New weapons. New places to explore. Etc, etc. I never said I wanted the game to be EXACTLY the same as the originals, and I'm definitely in it for more than just the gameplay, although gameplay is definitely a good portion of the 'meat' that makes up this series, hence why I'm wondering how exactly they plan on tackling this aspect.

I never said I wanted the game to be EXACTLY the same as the originals ... But this is where you find yourself on the slippery slope. If something as trivial as 360 degree movement is something you're legitimately concerned over, how can the game do anything new without upsetting you, is what I'm wondering. Don't get me wrong: there are some fundamental gameplay aspects, I'd like them to keep in Legends 3, but I'm not quite that attached to its clunky controls. XD Oh my god, yes. They play as smoothly as the originals and then some. The difference in the controls is pretty much negligible; everything looks and plays as awesomely as it did on the Playstation. The graphics look nice and crisp on the PSP screen's resolution, even if you have it stretch to fit. (That's the only thing I wasn't crazy about; they could've just made the view a bit wider instead of stretching...) Nino Island and Saul Kada's S License ruins run very nice and smoothly. And, I don't know if this helps or hurts the case for the PSP ports, but in Legends 2, weapon upgrade prices are slashed to nearly a third of their original costs! It's fantastic. If you have the means, you should definitely import. Anyone who's played the games more than a couple times shouldn't have any trouble getting around in the Japanese version, too. I thought it might be daunting, but it really wasn't very difficult at all. (Of course, if your PSP is hacked, you can play in English too, but not legally. :16: At least, not yet.) (You miiight not even need a hacked PSP for that, either..)

Trust me, he's only like that over how the game controls for the on-screen avatar. When it comes to other ideas, he's more than happy to speculate--I see him do this all the time over at CU. Just because you want one aspect of the game to resemble what it once was doesn't mean it's the same for the rest of the game. And to be fair, I never found the controls to be that clunky in practice--everything worked out nicely when I played through the games.
Either way, I don't want this game to control like modern 3D Zeldas, with all of dat Z-targeting and shtuff. The original controls could use some refinement in areas, but they worked for me as well. I'm open to new methods of control, however, and so the best we can do is discuss our options.

Oh jeez. Pitch, you just reminded me, with all your talk of control schemes, about the DS's awful shoulder buttons. I wanna play MML3 with the original control scheme (well, L/R to turn, ditch the R2 lockon since it hardly helped anything and the 3DS doesn't have R2) but unless the 3DS ends up being sturdier than the last few, I'm positive they'll quit working halfway through the game. D:
Also, yeah, I figured they'd use the MT framework, what with all the speculation/rumors, and Dead Rising did feel very much like a Legends game.

Hah! Yeah, I have to agree with you there, Jorsh. Right now the only DS I have at my disposal has both shoulder buttons broken; I can't play anything that uses them extensively. Battle Network is a huge pain, and I don't even want to tell you how annoying MegaMan Zero is.. >_< I really really hope Nintendo gets it together and fixes the shoulder buttons for 3DS, too. (although, that really shouldn't be too much to ask) But I'm sure mine will last at least long enough for me to get through Legends 3 a few dozen times. I hope so anyway..
