Okay, boys (and the occasional girl), here we go. A handy-dandy chronological news index and thread directory for all speculation and/or hype concerning anything that could have been, would have been, or should have been grounds for Mega Man Legends 3’s production. If anybody has any corrections or additions for these lists, or links that aren’t listed here, feel free to post them.
IMPORTANT DATES AND ARTICLES
April 4, 2000: RMD2 original released in Japan.
October 24, 2000: Mega Man Legends 2 released in the US. The wait for a new game begins!
January 10, 2001: Mega Man 64 released in the US.
July 14, 2001: Mega Man Legends released for PC in the US.
Unknown Date 2001: 'RMD3: The Dark Lord of the Ruined Country' claimed to be in development by a DASH team member named Hideki, most likely Hideki Ishikawa. Rumour firmly denied; announcement disclaimed as drunkenness. Original source here, if you can decipher it.(Remembered by Chiz)
August 23, 2002: RMD2 released on PC in Japan. Never makes it across the pond. (Remembered by Chiz)
February 8, 2003: Mega Man Legends Station Opens. (date correction by fab)
March 20, 2004: Inafune's first statement that there may be more Legends on the horizon. (Remembered by Green)
Unknown date 2005: IntiCreates writes up a proposal for Legends 3. Inafune rejects it.
January 2005: Namco x Capcom announced with Trigger and Roll in the spotlight
June 4, 2005: Legends for PSP announced
August/September 2005: PSP ports of DASH and DASH2 released in Japan only, but no US versions were made because Sony has a ‘no direct ports’ policy there.
December 26 2005: Silly MML3 Petition started. Still gets posted all over the Internet and is standing at approx 3,000/100,000 signatures. I signed it at least twice under different emails. (Remembered by Chiz, dredged up by yours truly).
August 8, 2006: Dead Rising released with Servbot cameos. The game put the Servbots back on the map as Capcom's catch-all cameo character/mascot. Credit to Green for remembering.
May 8, 2007: Capcom begins a ‘which Mega Man series do you want to see continued’ poll, which we try and tilt in our favor in this thread.
May 31, 2007: Keiji Inafune tells 1up in a 20th anniversary video interview that he’d like to make Mega Man Legends 3 and that Legends was his favorite series. Also the point where he gave a ballpark budget figure of 15 million USD and mentions the Lost Planet Engine was designed with Legends in mind. (Credit to Chiz/Green for that last detail).
September 21, 2007: 5-Island Adventure announced on NTT DoCoMo Cell phones in Japan
January 21, 2008: 5-Island Adventure released in Japan
February 2008: Roll Caskett comes 2nd in online vote to Darkstalkers' Morrigan Aensland for cameo in Wii Love Golf. (Remembered by Chiz)
September 5, 2008: Keiji Inafune, "I would love to do more games in the Mega Man Legends and X series, but the business of these games must be considered. Passion and creativity are great, but the reality is that they must be balanced with profitability." (Remembered by Chiz)
October 10, 2008: TGS 2008. "Inafune expressed his great desire to create Rockman DASH 3. Inafune is well aware of the many fans who want to see a return to the series." (Remembered by Chiz)
October 24, 2008 - Christian Svensson, "I know that Inafune has always had an interest in Legends 3 (he's mentioned it in several media interviews over the last few years). That said, there's no news on any such project." (Remembered by Chiz)
November 4, 2008 - Minoru Nakai, "People are really looking forward to the day when we finally do get a chance to do a sequel, especially one for Rockman DASH. [...] [R]ight now it seems like the capacity and the timing isn't quite right for that sequel, but there are a lot of people who really want to make one, so it's certainly something to think about, but not right at this moment. [...] [Between a sequel for RMD or TnK,] I'd rather do Rockman DASH if I had to do one. (Remembered by Chiz)
December 19, 2008 - Keiji Inafune, "I have hope to make a new Mega Man Legends, but that's not the reasoning behind including those characters in Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom. I think you're reading into it too much." (Remembered by Chiz)
May 4, 2009 - Famitsu (Japanese video game magazine with massive clout) conducts poll of most desired video game sequels. Rockman DASH ranks 7th. (Remembered by Chiz)
June 29, 2009: Interview with Capcom's Seth Killian in which Legends 3 is mentioned. According to Killian, people ask Inafune about it all the time now. (Remembered by K-dog)
November 13(?), 2009: Seth Killian drops in again for the 4 guys, 1up podcast to say one more time that Legends 3 is definitely not dead. Reaction article here. (Remembered by K-Dog)
December 15, 2009: Rockman DASH 1 and 2 added to Japan's Playstation Store. Same day, Christian Svensson, "I can not confirm it but I can say we're still working on {MML1 and MML2 in the US PlayStation Store}" (Remembered by Chiz).
January 2010: Trigger featured in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom All-Stars, which hits US shores. Capcom Unity opens its Suggestion Box, in which Legends 3 has wiped the floor with the other Mega Man franchises ever since.
April 2010: Marvel vs. Capcom 3 revealed to have a very, very pretty Kattelox Island stage, complete with all three Bonnes, the Balcon, and the intro ruin.
April 23, 2010: Keiji Inafune promoted to Global Head of Production at CoJ.
June 9, 2010: Capcom Unity FINALLY gets Mega Man Legends boards. Before that, we had a smidgen of a rant-fest over that here at Legends Station.
July 22, 2010: At San Diego Comic Con, Keiji Inafune announces an ‘oft-requested title’ in the works rumored to be Legends 3.
July 23, 2010: Inafune’s blog. Apparently he wants to make Legends 3 more than we want him to make it.
August 11, 2010: Keiji Inafune interview from Anime News Network. Inafune says that if he does announce Legends 3, he’s afraid people won’t support it.
September 9, 2010: Tron Bonne revealed to be a playable character in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (date correction by Green).
September 18, 2010: Hideki Kamiya tweets about something good in store for DASH fans after speaking with Yoshinori Kawano at TGS’10.
September 20, 2010: The Shadow of Mega Man 9 leak fame emails Protodude about a DASH sequel in the works. No further information is divulged except that the title would hit the spotlight once Mega Man Universe's hype dies down (as of now, Universe has no official release date in any country).
