As many of you don't know, Doctor Who is my number 1 all-time favorite show...ever. And then I realized that many of you probably don't know about this show...and if you do, then you're automatically awesome in my book. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_WhoI would give descriptions and explanations myself...but why do so when it's already there? Anyways, if you do NOT know about the show, I urge you to check it out (if Sci-Fi/Time-Travel/British Comedy stuff if your thing). And even if you don't like any of those, I still urge you to check it out anyways. Unfortunately, the only legal ways for you to enjoy the show is either buy the DVDs (which will put an $80 dent in your pocket per season), or catch re-runs on Syfy or the BBCA (I know that the current season runs on BBC-HD). As a mod, it's against my duties to offer the "illegal" solution...but just know that there IS an illegal solution. xD I would attempt to construct a conversation (other than telling you to check the show out), but I'm really not sure who is familiar with the series and who is not. BUT! I will say that I really...really...REALLY want a Sonic Screwdriver and a Tardis. <3 Oh...I guess being a Time Lord wouldn't be so bad either.

Cool, a Who fan. Let me go get my Matt Smith badge.
So, who's your favourite Doctor? What do you think of the new series? Are you anxiously awaiting next week's finale? Do you want my Amy Pond badge? 'Cause I don't.
Also, you'll probably understand when I say that don't I think it's a good idea to pimp Doctor Who too blindly. Wouldn't want someone reading this to go out and buy Castrovalva. They might (cough) get the wrong impression.

lol Matt Smith is meh in comparison to David Tennant. He's definitely my least favorite, coming in third right below Christopher Eccleston. But, he's not horrible to say the least. The new series...is alright, Moffat is a decent writer...but he's no Davies for sure. And YES...today's episode left me speechless. It's the best this season has brought to the table so far and I'm EXTREMELY anxious about next weeks finale.
And yes...I will gladly take your Amy Pond badge. I have a thing for Ginger's...and her accent is sexy. <3
loooool. Yeah, I see what you mean. I've never actually taken to the time to watch the older series. I've heard it's extremely cheesey and low-budget (duh). Maybe one day when I get curious enough, I'll sit down and see what it's about. But for the time being, I'm sticking to my Who from 2005 to present.
I kinda want Rose to come back, but I'm fairly certain that she got closure from the end of the Donna saga. Still, I heard rumors that they were thinking of casting her as the new Doctor, as I'm sure you know. It wouldn't have been Rose, technically, but it would've been awesome to see Billie Piper back on the scene.
Now, same questions go to you...cause it'd be pointless to just re-ask them. xD

I've always wanted to watch this series (particularly the older seasons), but never seem to have the time needed to really look into it. :19: It's almost ironic, really...

Interesting you prefer Tennant to Smith. I'd have to say Tennant has been my least favourite since the relaunch. Endless running about and bearing of teeth... Anyway, I reckon Moffat has been responsible for some of the better episodes of recent Doctor Who. This current series has been pretty patchy, sadly. I definitely wouldn't go as far as to say I prefer Russell T Davies as a writer, though. And yes...I will gladly take your Amy Pond badge. I have a thing for Ginger's...and her accent is sexy. Go ahead. And I find Amy Pond's constant sarcasm and tension draining a huge turn-on. Don't be too quick to write off 26 years of television as "cheesy and low-budget". The older serials might seem a bit dated, but that doesn't stop them being enjoyable. I never heard any rumors about Billie Piper being cast as the new Doctor. :17: I really liked her as a companion, but do you honestly think she could carry a series? My favourite Doctor is probably Tom Baker, with Jon Pertwee, Patrick Troughton and Matt Smith juggling for second place. And yes, I am actually quite curious about the finale! Last week's episode ended on a nice cliffhanger. Let's hope this week's won't be a bloody cop out. Also, have you managed to catch any Torchwood episodes? I have no idea if they're being broadcast outside the UK... I've always wanted to watch this series (particularly the older seasons), but never seem to have the time needed to really look into it. There's a lot to trawl through. (Nods)

Well, just from my stand-point, Tennant definitely had the most emotionally driven performances. End of Season 2, I just about cried. The Doctor and Rose seemed like a match made in Heaven...and then they get split forever in different dimensions. His last Special "The End of Time" was exceptionally spectacular. Granted, it might have been a little over played when he realized that it was Donna's dad that was gonna do him in, but at the same time, he made you feel what he was feeling. And that moment just before his regeneration... "I don't want to go..."
Again...almost made me cry. Smith simply hasn't made me feel what the Doctor is feeling. Not only that, but the writing for Tennant was just down-right awesome. His dialog was top-notch (in my book) and that kinda got lost in translation when Moffat took over. Or maybe it's because Smith can't exactly keep up with what Tennant was doing? I'm not really sure either way.
*Takes the Amy Pond Badge.* <3
Honestly, I'm only going by word-of-mouth on the older series. The person that got me into Doctor Who has been watching it since it came out. She told me that I probably wouldn't enjoy it because of it's cheesey-ness and low-budget aspect. So, I'm not trying to down the older series one bit, just going off of what I've heard. I'd love to sit down and watch the older series and make my own opinion about it.
Last weeks episode gave me chills. But I really wonder HOW they're going to bounce back from that. Of course, my theory is that it was basically just a fabrication of Amy's imagination and that none of it really happened. If that's the case, I will be severely disappointed. ._.
Also, I watched the Doctor Who Confidential as well...and Moffat said it was the "series finale." I know for us, that means that a series is done. But I really wonder if he meant a season finale. If it truly is the series finale, I may just go live under a rock until it comes back. >.>
Torchwood never caught my fancy, to be honest. I've tried to watch it, but it just never did it for me. And from what I know, you can definitely catch the episodes on the BBC channel. We just get a 1 or 2 week delay for new episodes because England hates us. xD

The Tenth Doctor and Rose had great chemistry together, and it was very moving when it all went wrong. The thing is that romance in Doctor Who is a relatively new thing. Before the relaunch there was never any romantic connection between the Doctor and his companions. It just wasn't "done". So I think all this newfangled kissing and seducing is putting some of the older fans off a bit. I found that with Davies everything had to be loaded with emotion and drama all the time, and that every finale had to be epic beyond proportion. It just lost it's impact with me after a while. I'm still glowing from last week's episode (did you guess the twist? I didn't!) and I've got some theories on how they'll wrap it up. Given that the Doctor mentioned in the first episode that he had to get back into the TARDIS "or it'll explode", I'm thinking there's going to be some time looping involved... The word "season" doesn't exist here, unless you're talking about the ones we get by rotating on a tilted axis. I know for a fact that we're getting a Christmas special, and filming for Series 6 starts next month. From what I've heard about Torchwood, I wouldn't normally touch it with a barge pole. Yesterday, however, I cained the entire third series in one day. It's called "Children of Earth", and I recommend it to absolutely everyone, regardless of whether you're a Doctor Who fan or not. It's a brilliant piece of television and the last episode had me unashamedly bawling my eyes out. We simply can't stand you. Especially after that World Cup incident. (Throws rocks)

Well, I guess at that point, you'd have to think about your audience. A lot of people nowadays want romance. They want some seduction and emotion. I don't think it's a bad thing, in fact, I'm sure the show would be just as good without the romance. But I do think it's a nice a addition. *Is a hopeless romantic anyways.*
And I WILL give you that. Davies liked everything to be epic, but then again...I like epic. I don't think I've disliked any of the previous finale's. Though...I was a little ify about Tennant's animated special. I was like "Wtf is this?!" But it turned out to not be so bad.
Yes...I did guess the twist, but my guess was slightly different at the same time. I thought it was holding the future self of the Doctor. So, when I found it's real purpose, it blew me away. Then with Amy dying and everything in the universe exploding...guh. So much. I really hope they don't muck up this next episode.
Phew...thank god for that then. I was seriously starting to think that Who was over with until I was like 40 or something. ._.
I've heard things about that. Is it the entire season? Or is it a special? Either way, I may have to check it out.
*Dodges* Oi! Don't blame ME for that. I didn't even watch the World Cup. Not really much of a Soccer fan anyways. If anything, I'd rather watch Rugby. xD

I remember one where Tennant tows the Earth across the galaxy with his TARDIS. I mean come on.
So, seen the finale yet? It definitely wasn't what I expected. Possibly because it completely failed to address any of the plot points of the previous episode. But I did enjoy it. Despite it being a bit childish at points.
It's the entire third season, but it's only 5 episodes long. But yes, do. And keep a box of tissues handy.
(Sigh) I was hoping we'd out a few closet Who fans here. No such luck.
And we got absolutely creamed by Germany a couple of days ago. The World Cup is dead to me now.[/sulk]

I'm not exactly a Who fan, but like Blues, I've been interested in the series for a long while. Any good place to start?

lol That would be season 4's finale with Donna Noble. And there were two Doctors...one half-human, anyways. And there's nothing wrong with tugging the Earth back to it's exact spot. I mean, how else was it suppose to get back? xD And yes, I did. One thing that bugged me the most was how he got out of the Pandorica in the first place. He went back and gave Roryr the Sonic...and then Royry let him out with said Sonic. But in order for him to have gone back and given the Sonic to Royry, he would've had to escaped first. So, that really confused me, because it never explains how he actually got out in the first place. Otherwise, I thought it was fairly decent. Wasn't as epic as I was hoping it to be, but oh well. And awesome, I'll go find a torrent for that now then. If it sucks, I'll have your head... xD And yes, same here, but it seems it's just the two of us. Shameful... loooool World Cup. Sorry it's not workin' out to your expectations. ^^; Musashi, start with 2005...Season 1 of the new series and just work your way up. You don't need previous knowledge of the show to understand it. Though I'm sure it'd help.

This is on my to-watch list. After reading up on it, I'm gonna start off with the first series. Anything involving both Douglas Adams and John Cleese in the same episode has to be absolutely f---ing mind-blowingly amazing. I know it's only collaborative writing and a brief cameo, but the older ones look highly entertaining anyway. The episodes look more like self-contained stories, which is nice. No pointlessly drawn out arcs with cheap filler, just beginning, middle and end.

And there's nothing wrong with tugging the Earth back to it's exact spot. I mean, how else was it suppose to get back? xD True. Though it does annoy me that the TARDIS and the Sonic Screwdriver can do absolutely everything. Like opening impenetrable prisons specifically designed to hold someone with a Sonic Screwdriver. The one bit I did like about the finale was the time traveling aspect - all that jumping about with the Vortex Manipulator. That and Matt Smith's performance. The scene where he was in Amelia's bedroom was quite moving. He just sounded like a sad, wittering old man. And please don't take my head. Could you at least settle for something I have two of? ic: I've not seen City of Death, so I can't comment. All I know is that Douglas Adams has had very little to do with Doctor Who, and that John Cleese, as you said, has only ever appeared in one story. Still, Tom Baker is a good Doctor. That's truer of the relaunch than it is of the older series. Traditionally the original run showed multi-part stories made up of about 4-6 episodes. Don't let that put you off, though.

Ah, so you're right. And yeah, I have a feeling Tom Baker will end up being my favorite. Especially compared to the newer younger actors ( they don't seem all that interesting), but that may just be my preference for protagonists being wise and middle-aged. I can't say I'm sold on the new series at all. I've only seen two episodes of the Tom Baker ones, and I'm already in love with it. It has to have been years since I literally rofl'd hysterically over a television show. This reaches levels of campiness I didn't even know could possibly exist, yet it's good. It's substantial, everything that counts, counts. Rare, delicious combo. Oh, this theme, is like swimming in a pool of endorphins. I had to stop watching so I could hunt down an mp3 the instant I heard it. Best 40 seconds of noise ever. :0

www.youtube.com/watch?v=XT63ErlWnUk&feature=fvst - Best theme for me. Mostly because it keeps the original theme, but expands on it. I've actually been wanting to make a trance/techno remix for this. ^^; But yes GSG...Pandorica = Dead-Locked/Time-Locked. Two things the Sonic can't do anything against. But behold! It can! I'm just gonna blame Moffat for that one, as I don't recall Davies really contradicting the capabilities of the Sonic Screwdriver. And yeah, the jumping back and forth with the manipulator was pretty fun. Makes me wish I had one...but then again, I think I'd rather have a TARDIS. xD Smith actually did good though, he seemed to step it up a bit for the finale...so maybe he's not so bad after all.
