Official Thread For RockMan Dash: Source
Forum user Cleveland Rock started a project to remake MML1 on the Source engine. Due to the fact that this engine is proprietary and not free, he dropped the project and will use an open source engine instead as soon as he can get a programmer. I, although fully understanding, was disappointed at this simply because I love MML and I love Half Life 2 (the reason the Source engine exists). Instead of sulking however, I decided to take up the project myself. My hopes are not to 1-up Cleveland, but rather to promote collaboration and open advancement of both our projects which are sure to become more different as time passes.
Inspired by the advice on Valve's Source SDK Wiki, I've decided to tackle this myself. I don't mean that I won't accept help, but rather that I plan on doing as much as possible by myself. If you're able to improve on something I've done, please submit it! I will be posting all of my source files so that this takes on an Open Source kind of vibe.
Quick game description
The game will be a halfway point between Half Life and Mega Man Legends. The gameplay physics will be mostly like Half Life 2 with some modifications to make it more Mega Man like. Likewise the levels will be taken from the Mega Man game but adapted to the Half Life 2 gameplay style. For textures and models, I aim to make this as realistic looking as possible. As for the plot, it will be for the most part, just like MML1, but with my own twist thrown in.
Status:
[==----------------------]
Ready for levels to be added and tested
Current inquiries:
I got a map of the first dungeon and downtown from Cleveland. Does anybody else have any maps for any part of Kattleox island?
Any models or textures or anything you can give me? The stuff I've gotten, and most likely anything else I get, will be heavily modified- however it's easier to modify something close to what I need than starting from scratch.
Could somebody please find a font... Font has been found. I won't make the title screen slick until I'm adding final touches.
Also, who did Roll's voice... Thanks, got this info. I'll be worrying about voice acting later though.
