There are no fit rules on fanfiction, although i can mention some tips of my own experience and desire taken from a forum i moderate. Note, the following is my own input, my voice is not condoned or related by any means to the staff's own opinions.
Idyllically, a good fanfiction thread should begin with the poster's Name, Title of Work, Rating, Fanfic or Orig. For example, Mir@k | Up Yours, Sir | NC-17 | Original Work | Chapter 3 up. (Adding notice when you update work would be appreciated)
For those with idiotically long names, using the diminutive most used or a contraction--i.e., ~Gaara's Little Angel~ as GLA--is preferrable for space reasons.
Summaries will probably be ridiculed. (I.e., posting a fifty word paragraph that summarizes an event and then calling it a story is just asinine.)
Images are only to be included in your works as illustrations, and should be relevant. If they are works you have created, and you wish them to be evaluated as anything but an illustration, they should be put in the art forum. If they are NOT works you have created, they must be credited. Images that you only wish to discuss or admire should be posted in the mumbo jumbo section.
Signature and avatar size will be enforced. When reading a story, signatures and avatars can distract greatly.
Characters, whether original or 'borrowed' from established works, are free to be used as another person sees fit in their own stories as long as originator of character is credited. If you do not wish your characters used, then add an adendum to any story containing a character(specifying character's name/s) you do not wish used. Complaining about non-tagged characters will result in much ridicule and me NetSend Spamming you for one hour a day for one week.
No polls.

Hi there, I don't think I've met you before. Nice to meet a fellow fanfiction author. While Mir@k is the one in charge of the section, I'm the guy that somehow became responsible for reviewing all new Megaman Legends fanfictions on this site. So expect me be looking over your work.
Mir@k hit the nail on the head. There isn't really a set of standards on this site besides what he's stated. Mostly, if your story ends up being deemed inadequate, it'll end up being ignored. You won't have to worry about flames or anything though, as we haven't had a problem with them in that particular area of the board.
The one thing I don't understand is why you are planning to write a Legends story when you've never actually played any of the games. Hopefully you've at least watch a complete playthrough online, and seen all of the cut scenes. Otherwise, you'd be in danger of misrepresenting the entire series.
Anyways, have fun on here, and give my "Legends 3: Endgame" fic a look if you want an example of good fan fiction writing and characterization (in b4 tooting my own horn).

Another added note, if you're going to write a fanfic and post it here...or anywhere...and expect anyone to read it, take the time out to make sure your spelling and grammar are up to scratch. That means capital letters in the right places, punctuation in the right places, and none of that txt-talk rubbish you kids all seem to be so fond of these days.
I'm talking about the kind of grammar you wouldn't be embarrassed to hand in to your English teacher to be graded, if you get my drift.

Whoa there. Mirak is in charge of the section? When did this happen? But yeah. We don't have any regulations as far as how you go about posting your stories, though everything mentioned here makes for a pretty good set of general guidelines to keep in mind. Proofread, cite outside sources if they’re used, try to avoid unnecessary clutter in your posts, etc. One additional thing that came to mind for me: if your story contains mature content/language, a warning bit at the top of your thread is a good precaution to take to avoid potential rule violations. Posting the story off-site and then linking to it would also work (in fact, it would probably be advisable if the issue is swearing, since you’d also be risking Proboards’ word filters getting all up in your post by putting it here). I can’t remember this ever being a problem, but we do have a similar policy for fan art, so I thought it was worth mentioning.

Whoa there. Mirak is in charge of the section? When did this happen? Oh hey! This is exactly how it all started back there in snafu! I definitely like where this is going!

I read plenty, but I can't say I'm much of a fanfic kinda guy. I've only read a handful of one-shots ( most of them on these forums) and a bit of Emerald's Endgame ( which, from what I've read, is pretty cool so far). Still, in my very humble opinion, if you're gonna take the time to type something up, aim to exceed people's expectations. Especially your own. And then proofread the $%^& out of it. Also everything Mir@k said.

Remember, while fanfiction may be a work of art from your own creative mind, you must be sure that the story you intend to tell is well paced and understandable for all readers other than yourself. Of course, as Emerald said before, I'm rather curious how your story might turn out, given that you have stated that you have no experience playing the series. Either way, good luck and make us proud! ...or else.

Thanks for the clear up guys! But what about posting fanfics on the main site?

fab handles about everything that goes down as far as the main site's concerned. I think he reopened fan submissions, but I'm not too sure...
