When I first discovered this great and powerful site way back in 2005, I was reading through the interactive story. I thought how great is that something for the whole community can get into their little own personal fan fiction with 50 billion fan writers coming together to make one great fan fiction. It's been a few years since anybody has added anything to it and I know fAB shut down must of the submitting stuff to him when he was rebuilding the site so my random question is... Are we allowed to start submitting stuff again and give rebirth to the interactive story? Hopefully?

Honestly I have no clue either. I remember when I firstcame here I submitted the next chapter in hopes that it would make it. Now I relize that it probably wouldn't have (my grammar and stories were bad when I was younger) It would be nice however, to see the interactive story continue on.

Fan submissions of any kind are still on hold at the moment, though I do keep reminding myself that it would be nice to get them going again sometime soon. As for the Interactive Story in particular, I agree the concept was a good place to start, but it kind of became a chore to try and pick parts. I had some truly horrendous stuff sent to me, and sometimes I'd wait longer than 3 tries were submitted for a chapter, hoping for some decent writing to come along, but sometimes I just had to choose the best from what I was given.
The main site's activity has almost completely wound down and I've been thinking it might be a good idea to wrap the Interactive Story up as well. I was thinking I might write the next part myself, to try and bring everything together (there are so many branches now), and then open it up for one last submission, to let someone else bring it to a satisfactory close with a big, final chapter... I suppose if there were a whole bunch of supportive posts here, I'd reconsider letting it go on awhile longer.
*continues to let it sit inactive for now*

So, I totally had a post written up for this. Then I realized about three seconds after posting that you were all talking about the interactive story on the main site, while I was thinking about the branching-paths affair that’s up on the Main Gate. I sounded like an uninformed cad, so I went and deleted it.
I’ve less to say about that interactive story than the Main Gate thing, as I’ve never actually... you know, read it. I recall finding it on the main site and telling myself I’d try coming back to it later. Never happened, alas.
Went back and skimmed through it just to get an idea of what it was. The parts weren’t as long as I seem to remember them being... Just a few paragraphs an entry. Still, if it does pick up again, I imagine there might end up being problems with the length. The longer it gets, the harder it would be to draw in new participants, since they’d be obligated to read everything else that’s already been written. Bit of a barrier, that.
I do agree that the idea is pretty interesting, though. Might make for a good forum activity around here with a few tweaks to the format, I think. Maybe instead of one long story, do a bunch of shorter ones. Start a new one every month or two, and take in a new submission every week or so, with the submissions having a set minimum/maximum length. Sounds like something that would fit in the same vein as the Caption Contest, but for fiction writers. I imagine they’re overdue for a proper contest/event of their own anyway.
Maybe open the current story up on the forums for the submission of a finale as you suggested, just to see if there’s enough interest. Then if there is, try something like that? I’m probably getting ahead of myself, but it’s just a suggestion.
Also, the interactive story on the Main Gate was cool.
