Wikipedia articleWell, in case some of you don't know by now, Gainax is currently developing a tetralogy of Evangelion films. The first three movies will be remakes/re-imaginings of the original anime series, while the fourth one will be an entirely new conclusion. Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone was already shown in Japan, and the English movie will be released on November 10, 2009 by Funimation. So far, Spike Spencer and Tiffany Grant, who voiced Shinji and Asuka respectively have shown interest in reprising their roles. I hope Amada Winn Lee, voice of Rei, returns too. I watched the first movie, and I enjoyed it. Most of the movie stays faithful to the original anime series, so those that are looking for something new are better off watching the climax of the movie where Shinji and Rei fight Ramiel (the crystal angel). They changed the way Ramiel "attacked" though, which made him awesome!

Yeah the first movie is neat but alittle disappointing if you don't know what to expect. If you hear it's a re-imagining and watch the first film it may seem way to similar to the beginning of the series. Thankfully I knew going in that it was going to start close to the base and branch out further as it went on. So I just sat back and enjoyed it.
Apparently they are already introducing a new character in the second movie. Some girl with pig tales, I think. I wonder if these movies are going to play it straight like the beginning of the series, or if they're going to get all crazy post-modern like the ending of the series. It'd be nice to have a serious love-story arc with Shinji X ******. The original series only set that stuff up to crush your expectations.
Also I really like the naming of the movies. "You are (Not) Alone" and "You Can (Not) Advance" is a neat gimmick. Also, 1.01 is a cool clue to how different the first movie is the the series.

I was hoping for Maya to make an appearance, who's from an Evangelion visual novel. In the visual novel, it's possible for Maya to become Shinji's girlfriend.I'm guessing that the movies are going to stay mostly with the original series, but with a few changes here and there. After all these years, Anno probably has some ideas he wants to throw in, take out, and mix around. As for the fourth movie, I hope it gets a better ending too. Anno's probably calmed down by now, so it shouldn't be like The End of Evangelion. Edited with real spoiler code. Because I care. ~EC
