There's no way we're getting older. It really is a fact--cartoons are retrogressing.
I mean, back in the day when Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry were first screened, they'd originally been marketed towards an adult audience. If you go back and watch episodes of Rocko's Modern Life and Ren and Stimpy, you'll pick up on a lot of things that just went over your head back when you were younger.
And you guys even admitted it yourselves--you can go back and watch some of the earlier episodes of Pokemon without clawing your eyes out and begging for mercy. If you can go back to a cartoon and still think it's good for reasons other than pure nostalgic value, then the creators did something right. Of course, I don't watch Pokemon for much more than nostalgia, but my brother likes it, and that's got to count for something...I think.
But really, watching shows like Hey Arnold, Kablam, Rocko, the earlier episodes of All That...they're all still hilarious, even up to (and at some points transcending) fifteen years after their initial airing. People just put more effort into producing humor. Really, the only *genuinely* funny show left is Foster's. South Park has its moments but relies too much on pop culture to carry the gags. Some of the other junk that pops on after midnight doesn't even have moments. And most of the stuff they air these days is so cheaply-made, a bunch of tech-savvy college kids could probably just reproduce it in Flash.
Just thinking about the situation makes me feel tragically empty.

I'll agree that both anime and western cartoons seem to be devolving, in a way, and becoming more juvenile. That or we're just getting older. ..nah. It actually could be that you know? We actually may be experiencing a "new generation" of cartoons. Like how our parents might not too fond of the cartoons we like, so do we for the newer ones. I haven't heard any objections from the younger kids yet about these new shows yet though, so I can't be too sure if we're just getting too old for them. Maybe I should visit my old elementary school teacher and ask some kids how they think of today's American cartoons while I'm at it.

I'm pretty fond of Venture Brothers, Flapjack, and Chowder which all seem to be amazing shows.
On a completely unrelated note I'm in love with Lazytown.

Actually, I love Lazytown too. It probably would've worked out better as a cartoon, though, and I prefer the UK voices for the puppets, especially Stingy. There is something about puppets that makes voice actors want to use that nasal puppet-whine...it drives me mad.

But...but...what about Sportacus? It just wouldn't be the same. ;_;

You guys, don't even get me started on Lazytown. My nieces watch that show, and everything about it is awesome. ;D
But eh... It's neither American or Japanese. It's Icelandic. Which as everyone knows, anything from Iceland is awesome. Especially cod. And Sigur Ros. And Amiina. And Vikings.
So it really doesn't count.

Even if I rarely know what's going on, it's pretty grand. It's even got an airship in it, I mean, what's not to love?
And I hereby proclaim that Lazytown doesn't count as topic drift because what's-her-name has pink hair. Live-action Icelandic anime with puppets. And awesome.
And Sportacus.

But...but...what about Sportacus? It just wouldn't be the same. ;_; Of course it wouldn't...it would be better! You could do so much more with animation, and Magnus Scheving wouldn't have to break a sweat. Heck, they were auditioning for a new Sportacus last year, so it isn't going to be the same regardless. Magnus can only do so many extreme physical stunts at his age. But Robbie Rotten animated would make my day.

If Lazy Town was a cartoon Sportacus would be able to do the impossible!!! Now isn't that what everyone wants? I think it would be even better!!!

I don't know; I quite enjoy watching what he's able to pull off all by himself. Any ol' cartoon muscle man can leap, literally, into a set of one-armed push-ups. A real man, though? Impressive.
But then I will readily admit that I like the eye candy as well. X3 I'm only human.

The mix of puppetry, cgi and live action is definitely what lends the show its charm. Even if Scheving isn't gonna do Sporticus anymore, it's way more entertaining seeing actual people do those things. I think that was the point of having actors do that stuff anyway, kids like to see that it's entirely possible to do all those stunts. It's like, every kids wet dream. I remember wishing I could do all those things, and it would have been way less inspirational seeing some cartoon do it.

Not trying to be a necro here, but Samurai Deeper Kyo (The anime series) just didn't do it for me. I'm not sure if the budgeting was any good to begin with, but the animation was simply horrible.
It was rarely fluid, and I was under the impression that I was watching still frames until someone decided to jerk an arm or leg every passing minute or so. I can't say that the plot pacing was any better either, but that's usually the case with adaption decay.

Uhh, I'm going to ignore all of the 'Lazy Town' talk because I feel that it is the second worst childrens show I have ever laid eyes on. But whatever gets you people off... I cannot find anything funny with "Fosters Home For Imaginary Friends", "Camp Lazlo", "Total Drama Island", and "6Teen". The only reason I watch Cartoon Network anymore is for "Chowder" and "Flapjack", which both completely own. On the Nickolodean/Nick Toons side of things, "Kappa Mikey" quickly became my favorite cartoon of the decade when it premeired. If the writers had been doing any other cartoon, the show would have been great. But the fact that the cartoon is a total parody of anime stereotypes puts it over the top for me. "Avatar: The Last Airbender" is also great, but the series has ended now. Looking forward to the M. Night Shamalan film, though. "Rocko's Modern Life", first season "Ren & Stimpy", and the almighty "Invader Zim" are others at the top of my list. Oh, and as for ANIME I hate... anything involving cards. "Yugi-OH", "Bakugan", "Chaotix", all that cra b.

I never liked that anime called "Code Lyoko" or something, the art was terrible, the 3D enemies were basically circles, triangles, cilinders and squares, the atmosphere was crappy and the music horrible. I really, REALLY despise it.
