I grew up on anime, and I hate what it is today. I mean, I really grew up on it. Like, from 1993. Vampire Hunter D and Battle Angel are what inspired my pursuit of a career in art.
Back in the day anime was for anyone and everyone. Japan viewed animation and manga as a medium for all genres of art, much like television or literature. Now that it's been westernized it's almost entirely directed towards children and the socially inept.
So to answer your question, Frankenpetey, most anime. I hate almost all of it.

Oh! I also get angry when anime-style art ruins videogames.. Castlevania, I'm looking at YOU! I had to toss that in there; my general dislike of anime was boosted pretty greatly when I realized Castlevania wasn't always so generic and bland. ; But I suppose that's just it, then. Anime doesn't seem very creative any more these days. Seems like the shows I see my little brother and sister watching every weekend get more and more dumb as time goes on, and they love it even more. And that's just the stuff they put on public TV!! I'll give you that, though, '90s anime I sometimes find entertaining, if only in theory. (Having never bothered to actually watch most of it myself) But that's just me; I find nearly everything about the '90s entertaining.

Then something tells me you're going to kill someone at Konami over Judgement: Why they let Takeshi Obata (Deathnote) do the art style goes beyond strange, IMO). Most of the good anime I've seen was in the '90s. More than that, it's getting harder to come up with something good when one considers the white elephant in the room (Naruto)- there's no room for other, more deserving, series to breathe.

I think Judgment is for the Wii, so I can safely ignore its existence. But yes, I have seen the designs. Alucard... As for why the switch, it's just a cash-in on a popular media format/artist. Companies are so heartless sometimes. Indeed, I'd go as far as to say that Video Games suffer the same affliction as anime these days; the '90s is where it's at! Naruto makes me want to kill babies. And I've never even seen it. I've seen parts of it. I've heard my brother making some random exclamations from some game or other. (“Sexy-jutsu...” *shudder* [I'm sure it has to be exactly as bad as it sounds, if not moreso]) Weird arm gestures I think too.. I think I saw the US OP too. Nothing about that can possibly be good. I wish I could come up with something genuinely on topic here instead of just dancing around it kind of.. but I don't like anime in general, so I don't watch it, and the anime I really hate, I don't watch even more so. In fact, time is a very big part of that, too. Why, right now I'm blowing off schoolwork I should be doing to tell you that I never have any time to watch bad anime in the first place. ; I should actually get going then. Ah well. Sorries on my part.

Indeed, the anime that's out now isn't as great as the older ones.
Super Dimensional Fortress Macross, Touch, Maison Ikkoku, Ah! My Goddess, Evangelion. Most of the anime are love are from the 90's and earlier. Well, the Ah! My Goddess anime series was made recently, but it follows the story of the manga which was made in the 1980s. The only modern anime I like now is Yakitate!! Japan, Fate/stay night, and kinda-sorta Death Note. And the only new upcoming anime I'm looking forward to now is Valkyria Chronicles, which is an anime adaptation of the great strategy RPG game that I just finished.
Which is why I get my good stories from video games. Cool when the anime style games get a good story, like Persona 3 and Valkyria Chronicles.

I don't really watch too much anime, but I find myself looking for the older stories from the 60's-90's, like Osamu Tezuka's works, Gundam, and so on and so forth; really, I haven't taken that good a t look at recent anime.

Here is an example of teh horror. Like having Pyramid Head make a guest appearance on Sesame Street. Doubleyoo tee f***. I heard Count Chocula is a playable character.

I pretty much, nay very much, agree with Miss Dashe. Although I'm incredibly shocked to find that you feel that way. I thought you liked anime. (Isn't animation sort of your thing, and such?) In any case, you practically took the words out of my mind.. so, well put. Hey, not everyone who's into animation is into anime. I can vouch for that one. A lot of other people make the same mistake. I think it's the Legends fandom that throws them off...in fact, I'm the reason the little blurby thing for this subforum mentions cartoons and comics before anime and manga. That's why I specifically said "over a hundred." My tiny attention span can handle about 60 episodes tops. Even though it sounded like a gross exaggeration, I've heard of shows topping four hundred and still going. Here's looking at you, Naruto. May your director realize they are producing utter dribble and wrap you up for good. I know, and that is exactly why I mentioned it. I love a nice, steaming hunk of comedic irony in the morning. And on the subject of Castlevania...at least Order of Ecclesia doesn't looks as cruddy as Portrait of Ruin did. Anime does tend to use a lot of stock characters, and plots, and settings, and...well, a lot of anime is pretty "stock" in general. It's sort of like genre fiction in this regard; those who aren't very familiar with the genre will see all the similarities and decide it's all the same. Those who are familiar with the genre, along with all its conventions, will see the differences between each individual story and be able to enjoy them...If the characters aren't engaging and the world and story don't bring anything new to the table, it's not worth my time. Egads, I think you may be onto something. Take a cookie for your epiphany and this free custom title. Thanks, I get that all the time. *^_^*

But I swear you've defended anime against my negative comments in a thread somewhere before... ; ...whatever. (EDIT: Maybe not..) On the subject of cartoons, I've come to the conclusion that the old Mega Shows are far more entertaining than even the uncensored Rockman EXE episodes. I can't be sure how to compare it to the OVA, though; that was pretty nifty. But yeah, go watch those old shows.. I've found my opinion of that show was far too heavily influenced by people who complain about the inaccuracies. After watching the old cartoons I almost wished the games were more similar to the cartoon and not the other way around. On an even less related note, as many fans agree, Sonic SATAM is far superior to that pile of crap called Sonic X. Go Cartoons, yeah! Ecclesia looks incredibly good; too bad it wasn't so great. Levels instead of semi-linear freeroaming gameplay (Kind of), only half the game actually in the Castle, lack of variety among weapons and combos.. Had a lot of potential, but the whole game was just small and unpolished. Portrait of Ruin didn't look great, but at least it played well. (And Dracula resembled Béla Lugosi's classic portrayal. ^_^) In Ecclesia's defence, what was there was really good.

I've got the first season of the Mega Shows on DVD, and it's pretty entertaining. Funny that you should mention inaccuracies; people don't stop to look at how much they got right in that show. Protoman copying weapons for example; although he only does it once, it's nice to see that they acknowledged Protoman's ability to do so.
I didn't like how they butchered X, though. He ran around carelessly knocking down everything in his path in the name of "justice". That, and they spelled Sigma wrong (Cigma?). Even still, it was nice to see Mega and X working together, and watching X copy Snake Man's weapon was very amusing. (I wonder what would have happened to Megaman had he attempted to take Mandrill's weapon?)
I also find myself cracking up at those horribly bad jokes/puns Megaman keeps cracking during the shows. Why are older cartoons full of bad humor? Then again, I guess the same could be said of newer cartoons as well, but I digress.
I wouldn't say all that.

May your director realize they are producing utter dribble and wrap you up for good. I heard that's what the guy's doing right now. [ spoiler?]I mean, I heard he's killing off a bunch of important characters, including this one guy with white hair who uses a headband as an eye-patch.[/ spoiler?] You know, I think even the newer American made shows suck. Squirrel Boy, Phibias and Pherp(?), ...Whut? I miss the good ol' days of Rugrats, the Jetsons, Samurai Jack, Tom and Jerry, and Dexter's lab. The only good new shows in my opinion are Avatar: The Last Airbender and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. Oh, and I also want to point out that the classic Pokemon anime is still awesome, which includes the dub no matter how "poor" the voice-acting is now to today's standards. *Waits for TronBonne to come running in.*

I...Is that hot pink in a Castlevania game? And just what period is that clothing from? Was there a decade of heavy LSD use in the 18th Century that I'm unaware of? Please, please don't tell me what they did to Dracula. Kojima come baaack
I think we've reached a concensus that older shows > most newer shows, on both sides (all sides?) of the pond. That's not to say that all older shows get a free pass (Okane friggin' ga Nai, I'm looking at you). I'll agree that both anime and western cartoons seem to be devolving, in a way, and becoming more juvenile.

Then something tells me you're going to kill someone at Konami over Judgement: Why they let Takeshi Obata (Deathnote) do the art style goes beyond strange, IMO). Takeshi Obata is fine, actually. But him and Castlevania... Mutually exclusive. Bring back Ayami Kojima. She hit the series on the head like a @#$*in nail. A fine example of what Castlevania isA fine example of what Castlevania isn't and shouldn't be Sorry I'm derailing the topic. This is all in favor of hating anime though, so... meh. I love Kojima. I'm one of her biggest fans and I wish it were legal to marry her paintings. And Takeshi Obata is some douchebag.

No, but seriously, yes. More than once I think I've found myself looking up an old episode of that as a result of one of the topics here somewhere; nothing wrong with that. That or we're just getting older. ..nah. I didn't shudder at that castlevania image before because it wouldn't load for me at the time, but... *shudder* ...I mean really it's not that ba-- you know, I can't even lie about that. *twitch* I wish it could be unseen.
