I grew up with anime like Gunnm ( not to be mistaken with Gundam) I thought only the first two volumes were animated...? GUNNM OVA, YOU CONFUSE ME. D: I like anime, but I find that I read more than I watch. These are pretty much the only animated series that make me tingle: - BoBoBo-Bo Bo-BoBo (:'D)
- Cromartie High
- Excel Saga
- FLCL
- Noir
- Ouran High School Host Club
- Paranoia Agent
- Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei
- Serial Experiments Lain
Although I swear I'm on a massive yoshitoshi ABe bender at the moment. I finally got round to getting the Serial Experiments Lain soundtracks, so I've been freaking out over that all over again. I also bought Haibane-Renmei and Texhnolyze in good faith, so you better not let me down ABe (I know you won't, though <3).

I really don't watch a lot of anime. I'm a HUGE manga junkie, though. But, I dunno, maybe I'm too pretentious. I'm into weird, off-kilter, artsy stuff.
Though, there's something about old-school/late 80's-early 90's anime that really gets me. Golden age of gaming, golden age of anime?
Here's my favourite anime:
Neon Genesis Evangelion Angel's Egg Patlabor Devil May Cry BLAME! Fooly Cooly Blue Submarine No. 6
Others that I like:
Mezzo DSA, Outlaw Star, Cowboy BeBop, Kino no Tabi, Detective Conan, Lupin the 3rd, The Big O, Serial Experiments Lain, Galaxy Angel, Kaiba, Serial Experiments Lain, Boogiepop Phantom, Ghost Hound, Mushishi, Cat Soup, Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Nausicaa, Princess Mononoke, Final Fantasy Unlimited, Slayers, The Weathering Continent
Right now, I really want to watch: Silent Mobius NG Knight Lamune & 40 Bubblegum Crisis
[EDIT] Went back and read other posts. TOTALLY agree with B-R-E-T. Moe and shounen-money-making has maimed anime. I'm sure it will come back around, though. Okay, hoping...

I never considered myself a CLAMP fan, but recently I've gotten into XXX-Holic and Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles. The latter really surprised me because of the sudden genre change toward the middle of the manga. Depending on what you're into it might have been a major improvement or a disappointment.
...or a mind screw.

I grew up with anime like Gunnm ( not to be mistaken with Gundam), Rôjin Z, Akira, and a ton of violence and sexploitation stuff. I obviously liked the medium because it had a broader range of audiences, wasn't afraid of having allegories of war and societal issues, was thoughtful and imaginative. Then all these western kids threw money at it and everything went downhill from there. And it's not just a nostalgic thing, either. There are old animes I love that I haven't been exposed to up until a couple years ago, like Cowboy Bebop and Lupin III that don't have that let's-do-it-for-the-american-kids bull$|-|!7 attitude. It's pretty obvious Japan knows the world is watching them now, and they're overly self-conscious about it. There's nothing wrong with being a weirdo, Japan. Cultural fusion is lame. Go back to your roots. I liked you better that way. I agree with you too. Old school is when the quality was there. Anime these days rely too much on cliches... Same goes for many Japanese video games too. Granted, a lot of today's anime are still quite good. It's just that there's more quantity than quality. Oh, and much more use of cliches (although that's much more apparent in video games than anime).

After a lot of thoughts, here's a list of anime I enjoy watching. It's not a very long list, as I don't really watch anime.
Read or Die: The OAV Pokemon Medabots Mega Man Star Force Sonic X Beyblade Cyborg 009
I'm still planning on watching Lucky Star, The Melancholy of Haruhi, Ouran High School Host Club, Trigun, Garaan Lagaan, Cowboy Bepop, FullMetal Alchemist and Escaflowne.

School Rumble has got to be one of the funnier animated shows I've ever had the pleasure of watching aside from Full Metal Panic Fumoffu. Harima is the coolest male lead of a show I've ever seen simply because he will do absolutely anything to win the heart of his crush.
(Unfortunately that also means ignoring Eri and Yakumo. Well, at least the manga is more sympathetic toward their feelings.)

Oh, I haven't listed my favorite animes yet, have I?
1. Trigun - Simply the best anime ever produced, in my opinion. Fun and yet serious at the same time. It's also the perfect length for an anime series: 26 episodes.
2. Tenchi Universe - One of the first animes I grew up watching, and also one of the funniest and most entertaining.
3. Gundam Wing - It may be a little wrong of me to list this one as number three, considering I haven't seen it since it was shown on cartoon network, but it really made a large impression on my youth.
4. Tenchi Muyo - Only the first two OVA series count. The third was absolutely terrible, made by different people, and I wish it never existed.
5. Bleach - It was a good show, especially at the begining. However, things began to drag on after awhile. I stopped watching somewhere in the 100s. Too many episodes filled with too much fighting and exposition. Other than that, a good concept and good characters make it by no means another throwaway anime.

Argh, my memory always slips when I try to remember everything I like. I guess my all time favorite is "Welcome to the NHK!" I watched it in Japanese with subs, but the DVD is released in English for anyone who wants to go out and pick it up, and from the first ep I watched back when they were streaming for free it looks like they did a pretty decent job with the dub. It's a very different kind of comedy anime with a main character I think that anyone who's ever felt isolated or who is an anime fan will identify with, and it's thought-provoking while side-slappingly hilarious. Also, a great OP and ED. ; D EDIT: Right, I completely forgot this. Astro Fighter Sunred (or Tentai Senshi Sunred) is my current favorite I'm following. Any fans of super sentai like Kamen Rider or who those who grew up with Power Rangers should get a kick out of the unique brand of comedy it offers. Anyways, besides classy anime like that I'm also a fan of a lot of other mainstream stuff, so I guess you could say I'm a slave to the new culture that's come out. >< Stuff I enjoyed that I've watched recently, genres all across the board... -Baccano! -To Aru Majitsu no Index -Sengoku Basara -K-On! -Toradora! -Black Lagoon -Zeta Gundam Stuff I see on others' lists that I liked: -Paranoia Agent (fans of this should watch the movie Paprika, available on DVD) -The Big O -Death Note (there was a craze about it at my old school, so everyone enjoying the tension together may have aided me in enjoying it) -Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (although I'm not up on the most recent series) -Trigun (did you hear there's a new movie coming out? www.youtube.com/watch?v=xo2gd17vlvw ) -Higurashi no naku koro ni (although I rewatched it recently and didn't enjoy it as much... I think it's another of those series that you can like for the tension, but once that's done you'll realize that the animation quality certainly and even to a degree the story and characters weren't as great as you thought)

Longer, better Trigun movie trailor:
I'm looking forward to it, but warily. I'd have much prefered a direct continuation of the series. After all, we never do find out whether or not Vash "saves" Knives at the end of the final episode. There's still plenty more than could happen after that. Why do we need a side-story movie NOW, of all times?

Cripes, they got me! Just as I was about to comment triumphantly about how they didn't throw in the Kuro-neko this one time, they throw her in directly at the end! Bravo Trigun! Bravo!
I guess the years haven't stolen your touch just yet.

Eh, I'm just happy that we're getting anything. If you think that Trigun's is an open-ended anime ending, you must not have seen the same stuff I have... despite the ambiguity, it was clear that it ended one way or another, right? Short of entering another antagonist Bleach style, the party was over. It wasn't a terribly short series, either. I say just be thankful for what we do get, especially considering it looks like it's holding true to the style of the original.
Not every series gets to be Dragonball and Fullmetal, where they run forever and are still so wildly popular that they get more projects just revamping everything that was already done. XD I'm personally really surprised to see the series still getting some attention. I know it wasn't unpopular, but to me Trigun's an age of animation I assumed to be dead and seeing it back in good form is a treat enough.

Trigun is truly awesome. My personal favorite. But some of the animation really doesn't hold up now a days. I wish it had a reboot series like Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood where it follows the manga more directly.

Brotherhood is my all-time favorite. Bringing FMA back as an anime series and conforming it more to the manga was genius. The fight scenes are all like the ones in the movie, which is epic win.

*opens the rusty doors, dust comes out* *coughs* Geez, it's been a long time since anyone's been here.. It's not all necroposting since I've got something to contribute to this thread. Gundam Wing - It may be a little wrong of me to list this one as number three, considering I haven't seen it since it was shown on cartoon network, but it really made a large impression on my youth. Oh, GW was one of the anime that drew me into the medium. Last month, I tracked down the whole series, and it's still just as awesome as it was then. I haven't gotten 'round to seeing all of it, yet. Yatterman- A minor curiosity piqued by TvC led me to look for this series, there's a lot of comedy. Surprisingly, the 'villains' (Doronjo and her lackeys) do a good job of keeping things moving- They're fun to laugh at when trying quick-cash schemes or failing to beat Gan and Ai in looking for the Dokuro Stone. These ne'er-do-wells set the stage for Team Rocket and that most loveable family of pirates we know as the Bonnes. ;D Robin Hood no Daibouken- An interesting take on the outlaw of Sherwood. I haven't seen much of it, but this is quality stuff (1990, if I'm not mistaken), in my opinion. Stuff like this reminds me that sometimes you'll find something great if you can look past the big name anime once in a while.. Gotta love fansubs.

Yeah, I've been increasingly interested in Yattaman as well thanks to Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. I might want to check out Gachaman as well.
A friend reminded me today that I also liked another anime that aired on Adult Swim: S-cry-ed. Kinda forgot why I liked it though.
