Ok so to everyone that doesn't know I'm GreyWolf and this is my first thread so here goes.
Have many of you have noticed that recently more and more people are getting involved in martial arts? Or more percisley more people are starting to do things like entering fight tournaments? I'm curious because I've practiced fighting for years, But latley I've been seeing more and more amatuers talking about fighting. The sad thing is most don't know anything about it! So anyway what have you guy's heard on this subject?

"I get in ring, I fight person, I win, he lose!" That's all my evil knowledge on it. If their is some kind of traditional to it. I wouldn't really know of one.
I did Krav Maga but I had to quit because of a few reasons that I have disclosed to you, Grey Fox. *sneaky eyes*

I think it has something to do with the recent increase in anime's popularity. A lot of those shows have martial arts tournaments in them, which is probably attracting a lot of amateurs to different combat sports.

*The Rage walks in and starts to rip Dashe's comment apart!*
Or it could be the fact they have a bunch of martial arts movies and video games. If they have Jackass kids, they have to have Mortal Kombat kids screaming "Fatality" when they win a fight.

Ok I have to agree with you both but I think Dashe has more of a point Rage. Thats not to say that your not stating a very good point though.
If you want to hear something funny then listen to this. My friend Jeane has seen the ranking's for the fight tournament that I'm going to in June and it turns out that about 80% is nothing but amateurs. Go figure huh?

I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case, Lupin. But if those many ametuers are entering the tournament you're attending, you'd clean up house!

Hah-hah you might actually be wrong there since Jeane will be there as well but thanks for the commpliment though. Anyway yeah for those of you that don't know Jeane was my training partner for about 2 years and even though we're friends in the ring we're pretty much enemies. ( she's actually pretty dangerous) I honestly think this will be more of a challenge than it would seem since most amatuers are pretty crazy and will do anything to win. I actually had one bite me last year, and not in a very pretty place! Still he came out the worst of us "mainly since I tossed him into a wall" I finally got up with another of my friends and I found out he is going to enter the tournement too. I'm also trying to get Jeane to get on a computer and write something here. You know for a little outsider's input, and maybe a little new blood for the site.

Someone bit you? I've heard of being hungry like the wolf, but that's just..... that's both weird and crazy, Lupin.
New blood, eh? That'd be interesting. I won't question about how dangerous this Jeane is, but now I've grown a little curious. Does this tournament cover specific styles of martial arts or is it just a mixed one altogether?

It mainly covers mixed styles but I think there are some mini events for the special styles. Yeah so my uncle got up with me yesterday. He's finished fixing my metal vest. Well actually it's Kevlar but he modified it for extra protection. It pays to have a uncle that owns a metal shop. Anyway talk to you guys later. Oh! Jeane is going to be joining as soon as she gets back home. " she's currently in Florida" Yeah she said that she would get her laptop and join when she came down to spend a week with me. She's really coming because she's afraid I might beat her.Plus I'm closer to the tournament site than she is.

Hey GreyWolf,
You may have seen my post, which probably triggered you to make yours. I do Muay Thai, 4-1. I don't understand what you mean by their are 80% amateurs in the tournament. Are you pro? Technicaly you are amateur until you go pro. You can have 250 fights and still be amateur.
Anyway back to your question: I think the reason martial arts is so popular is because of organizations like UFC, and now Elite XC on free CBS television. Kids are inspired by the new sport (MMA) and it is taking off mainstream.
Take care in your fight(s)!
