Taking things to a different direction for a change, I decided to make this thread off an old comic series from France. It concerns of a time when the Romans were expanding thier might accross Europe but got stuck when trying to invade a small village of gauls (the frenchies back then). Particullarly two gauls named Asterix and Obelix beating the snot out of the romans among many other adventures...... moving on, has anyone ever taken a look at it?

I've read it before. My French class did an entire lesson on it, but I doubt I could discuss it in English, because there are some things in the comics that I don't know the right English translation for, like that big rock Obelix carries around or that meat they cook all the time. Not that there's really that much to discuss about Asterix and Obelix, it's not exactly that deep. Their bard is rather entertaining, though.

Hm, yeah. While it's not 100% story driven, it has a good degree of humor. I remember learning about of the series in the 4th grade. I'd forgotten about it until I found some of the movies on Youtube. That's when I decided to bring about this thread.
... I also get a kick whenever they ignore and/or smack that bard around to stop him from singing. lol. ;D

I saw the live-action movie and he sounded like he had a dying cat caught in his throat. ;D

The only live-action film I can recall is Asterix and Cleopatra, haven't seen that one. I've only seen the the 1970 version of A&C/i} and Operation Getafix. Both are pretty funny.

I remember Asterix from my elementary school days. While I never got into it myself, a few of my friends read it and enjoyed it. I also remember seeing those movie trailers when I went to see French movies with my classmates. All in all, I never really got into it, I prefer other Franco-Belgian comics such as Tintin or Spirou, which I still read today. XP

I did read the French Version of Asterix and Cleopatra, and it was nothing like the movie anyway. @staulmasterAwesome, I should definitely sneak back into my old high school and convince whoever's teaching French there now to check out those comics too. Shouldn't be too hard considering most high school kids look like they're about twenty-five anyway.

I'm pretty sure Asterix and Cleopatra was the trailer I saw in the theatre, I didn't know it was based on one of the books. I do, however, know that there has been a live-action Tintin movie made, although that hasn't been based on any of the books. @staulmasterAwesome, I should definitely sneak back into my old high school and convince whoever's teaching French there now to check out those comics too. Can't argue with that logic. lol. ;D
It's a shame that this isn't mainstream or else I'd snatch it up in a heartbeat. It could be worse, though; Getafix could have lost his mind and brewed up god-knows-what unspeakable muck in that cauldron of his...again.
