I call an anime dub junk if I would rather see the original. So I would rate the worst anime dubs as: 1. One Piece: I feel sorry for all of those One Piece fans. The theme song is lame, the voice acting is rock bottom, and I think the music has changed. The funny scenes aren't even funny anymore with all of those stupid accents. Luffy is not a kid, and who would give that blond guy that accent??? And now, if I were to read the manga, I get tha stupid voices in my head. 2. MegaMan NT Warrier: MegaMan NT Warrier is a big disappointment for some of us Battle Network fans(I hope their voices are not in the Battle Network 5 DS). I personally believe that I could be a better directer than them. I mean, I would change "Mega Guts Buster" to "Heat Guts Flamethrower". They are brainwashing kids with this low quality anime(and anime, and products[although the Advanced PET battle chip packs are good if it weren't for the changed chip names])! 3. Sonic X: I'd say that Sonic X originally was junk because almost 70% of the shows I've seen, the story doesn't even talk about Sonic or him against Dr. Eggman. I also think that some of the adventures are weird, like the kids going in a fighting competition. 4. Yu-gi-ho!
No offence to those who like the dubs!

Dude, no offense, but I seriously think this topic is bound to end up in a flame war.
I've seen One Piece, and it's pretty dumb, but what you have to consider is that anime displayed on TV here has to be dumbed down.
I know very little of the other 3, so I'll tackle NT Warrior. A few points that are often brought up. A lotta people get all angry about the name changes. But a lotta them are heavily because of legality issues - such as censorship and copyright laws. Scenes were cut for the same reasons.
I dunno if its the same of other animes, but the general rule of thumb is that when an anime is going to be aired publicly on TV, the censorship has to be excessive. Were they to be released onto only VHS and DVD it wouldn't be that way, but since most of the animes you listed are shounen, you really don't see that happening often.
There is no use complaining about it. If someone says one of them are cool, you can disagree, sure, but complaining will get you nothing. It's not the fault of the dubbers, it's the cursed general public. So cool your engines before ya over heat and the place bursts into flames.

I'm confused. What copyright laws are you talking about? You mean specific things that might be shown in the episodes violate that?
Well in any case Funimation has done some of the best and worst dubs I've ever seen. Dragon Ball was amazing but Dragon Ball Z was terrible. So I always figured there where specific teams within the studio that decided what direction to take to dub. But that copyright thing gots me thinking it's more complex.
But censorship is a real give or take kind of thing. Sometimes they cut things some times they dont. It's already well establised that from 9PM and up the only people who are watching are the tweens and up. So thats why they are showing the uncut Dragon Ball Z now at 10:30. Also the Naruto dub sexual content wasn't cut down at all.

I stopped following NT Warrior a long time ago, but I think there was one of 'em in there. A name change dealy. But I don't remember who it was(Aquaman?). I dunno, I remember reading something about it. But I ain't been into EXE for the longest time.

Worst dub? One Piece, by far. Fox Box mutilated my favorite manga series! Rockman, I too get those awful voices in my head every time I try to read the manga! At least I stopped watching the awful show before Usopp and Sanji showed up, but now I have to physically strain to block the bad voices from creeping up on me and even substitute half-decent voices in their stead!

Well, I have to admit I watch NT Warrior(every chance I get, because I like it XP) and sometimes One Piece/Sonic x. Why? I can't download the real things, or read the Mangas and stuff. And I really can't afford a million kajillion DVDs. So I'm a person who has basically watched dubbed anime on TV. And of course I'm not happy with all of these "changes" that are made, but I can just go on the internet and read the differences.....and wish I could see the real things XP
P.S. Why did I like Cardcaptors? But I kinda get the reason why they edited certain things out.
P.P.S. Pitch, Aquaman was changed to Spoutman. And apparently a few other names have been changed as well.

Yeah, I know Aquaman became Spoutman. I wasn't sure if that was because of copyright laws or not. I think one of 'em was, I just can't remember which.

Was it Beastman becoming Savageman(because of Beastboy from Teen Titans?) I don't remember all the name changes. Heavymetalman, spoutman....yep that's all that comes to mind right now.
Does anyone remember Sailor Moon? Did that have a lot of things edited out?

I guess your right Pitch, some changes are neccesary, but don't you think the voices could have been better?

Yet another thing I ment to touch on! I'm gunna make a totally radical statement that will just blow you away. ready? .... ...are you? .... ...you sure now? .... once the decision's made, there's no turning back. nothing less than 100%! And remember, it's more than just gu-.... err... yeah. .... okay, ready? ... Here we go. You don't like voices at all. "Preposterous!" Well, assuming you've watched any and all of these animes subbed, and prefer THAT over the dub.. Watching subtitled anime.. it's more like reading a book, than listening to the people, unless you really know what they're saying. Could you maybe appreciate the voices more, even without the subtitles? Yeah, maybe. But ultimately, I find most people, myself included are more into the actual subtitles than the Japanese voices. They're not really as good as people think they are. Sure, edited out scenes and totally altered plot are bad, but really, the voices... put on captions and ignore them, and it's not so bad. I will say one thing about NT Warrior though, Mr.Match's voice is the most stereotypical garbage EVER.

Yu Yu Hakusho had really cool voices... One Piece doesn't(evebn though I like there voices because they sound funny. I just don't like their voices on the characters). He meant don't give them wacky voices for the heck of it. You know. Giving Freeza a womens voice in DBZ is pretty bad.

You mean... freeza's not a woman?
Well yeah, there's definitely a line, but ultimately when you look at it, it's not so much the voices as it is what's being said.

The only thing I will really say about this subject is that I like different accents for characters. It brings out more character and background to that person. The Japanese versions lack this usually. Now, I don't like if the dubs use different accents just for fun. That is so lame trying to include more than 10 types of races into a series or to make a character "comical."
Don't get me started on Astro Boy's voice in the new 2003 series. His voice is so a stereotypical "punk" boy... >_> His voice should be young and innocent like in the Japanese version...
Dubs overall are mostly bad when it comes to children's' anime, but some cuts and voice acting is good and for the best. It's just hard to find those anime... and also be clean in the Japanese version. ^^;

Kirby, definetly. Every. Other. Line. Is. A. Pun.
They won't show the little fanservice they did have (which was just making fun of fanservice in the first place), they had really bad VA's work for them (Dedede is NOT southern, dammit. Nor is Metaknight hispanic, nor is Holy Nightmare a 14 year old boy with a head cold).
I'm done...>_>

The small bunch of Dragon Ball Z episodes the "new" FUNimation picked up on at the end of the so-called "Ginyu Saga" were absolutely horrid. Dubbing, voices, music, everything. Horrendous. They did improve as they went on, but I found the original Japanese background music (and at times lack thereof) more pleasing to listen to. Really, although I haven't seen any kind of Dragon Ball in years, I remember the original show being much quieter than the overblown drawma electronic bangbang that we have to hear here. Or had to. Good knows if Dragon Ball Z is even popular anymore, but hey, I used to be a fan.
A lot of old old fans seem to disagree with me, but I thought the old voices and some of the lines in the first Streamline dub of Akira were ridiculous. Tetsuo sounded like a nodding puppet dork that needed a large Gonzo nose, googly eyes and little wires attached to his hands and Kaneda was literally Leonardo the Ninja Turtle (really serious about the last one). The movie was beautiful and very "real," one of those movies where cartoony voices would absolutely break it and I felt it did; I feel the voices are likable on a nostalgic, "campy" level. Hell, Otomo had originally wanted normal teenagers to voice Tetsuo and Kaneda.
