FMA is a good anime that gets dismissed by many when they watch the first episode as cliche. This is a sad turn of events because the story gets so much darker and more original as the series progresses. The characters totally rule! Ed and Al are both great, as well as Winry and her grandma, but my absolute favorite character is May Hughes.
SPOILER ALERT
The episode where he, well, you know, was just so dramatic and well done. When they didn't play the ending music and just had a black screen just made it all the better. It was so sudden and tragic. Truly well done.
END SPOILERS
The concept of alchemy is really cool as well and the animation is solid and simple. Man, FMA is such a good show! I can't wait till they air the new episodes again!

I love how smart it is. It's alot like the movie Contact. It shows the evils of Science and the stupidity of religion. Also besides that there are a whole bunch of other symbolism going around.
And on top of that it's just plain cool. The character design, animation, music, and story combine together for awesomeness.

There is nothing stupid about religion except for some such as Christiantity and it wasn't a point made out. In the first episode it was just asimply coming up witha good villian that fits the plot. In this case a con artist.

Oy... FMA. One of the better one’s I’ve seen. Yet, there are some things that trouble me about it. For example, Alchemy is supposedly a science. The ultimate one, as they put it. Yet, it is never explained. At least, not in the stretch of the story that I’ve seen, which is a fair bit. They speak of all of these arranging of molecules and compensation of matter, yet never explain how they do such things. Where does the energy needed for such reactions come from? And what purpose does the mutation circle serve? And what ever happened to theories like memory and other such exclusive data being stored as protein in the brain? Now they believe that they must duplicate a soul? When they say ‘soul’, is it a code for something else? And how in the world can religion coincide with alchemy on their planet? They are completely inverse. If people here started morphing objects into other objects with circles and calling it science, there’d be uproar. Many, many things I don’t understand about the show. Tis a good show nevertheless. Animation, design, art... it’s all very good. Not the best, but good. On a side note, how is religion stupid? It gives meaning to people and instills morals. Any way you look at it, it’s an advantage. Of course, I guess that depends on what religion we’re speaking of exactly. Most of the mainstream ones advocate peace and the like. Even if you don’t like religion, peace is good. If you don’t like either religion or peace, move to a third-world dictatorship or something. Better yet, make your own third-world dictatorship. O.o

Ahmen to that! I also don't understand it all. But it is still incredibly enteresting!

Well, it’s not necessarily that the story is hard to follow, but the details are incredibly foggy. A nice, long explanation would have made the entire thing about twice as good. But yes, it's interesting nonetheless. o.o
Perhaps in the future. The series should have an good finish.

Darn it, can’t see it unless I’m logged into their forums... Yeah, forgot about all that stuff. I’m so dense sometimes. War, politics, death... Sure, you may look at those as downsides. That’s only because they are. But those were mostly by groups who were extreme elitists and believed that it was their duty to force every other living person they could find into believing what they believe. Funny thing sometimes, religion... but I still believe that it could bring good if properly observed. Now let’s not get too off-topic here. I’m horrible at debating anyway, so you'd probably shoot down any opposition I could conjure on the matter.

Who else hated that Fabricated Memory business. I thought it was dumb that Al got all worked up about what some crazy killer told him. He totally fliped out even though he usually the one who stays calm.

Well, Mlt, I think that your just supposed to take the fact that alchemy is a science as is. The fabricated memory thing was there to show how Al is kinda loosing faith. It's been so long since he had his original body that he forgot he was real. The killer was a good liar too. That reminds me, the first episode with him was really cool.
Who else thinks Scar is a really cool character?

Darn it. @_@
Scar is an interesting one. His character is fine, but what I really love is how everyone goes into panic when he's sighted. It's great.
I would go into a panic as well if I thought there was a possibility that all of my memories may be fake and someone else was using me to further some unknown cause. Still, his reaction was completely blown out of proportion. In the end, all he really did was end up causing everyone trouble. His lack of faith turned out to be little more then a passing phase.
The killer was just odd. Loved his voice though.

I think Scar is one of the best. But not as good as Ed and Al!!! This show is quite sad.
