Friends, Purifier Models, Bureaucratic Model's and the like. The time has come to converge on a spot where we can discuss and swear at each other about Anime, Manga, Over used plots, and Nippon in General! Follow me to The Otaku Spirit! Seriously, I'm one of three people there, and when I'm not waiting for somebody to post topics, I'm enraging the Admin, or modifying one of my three original messages. Com'on we all love anime... Right?

actually I don't like anime, I think it is a little far off, and drugs were used in its creation. Legends is an anime, I still don't know why I don't like other animes, there is no big reason. I don't think this is spam, since you asked a question.

I don't think this is spam, since you asked a question. I'm not the biggest anime fan myself, but I think your ideas about anime are a little... False. 1. Drugs? What the heck? That sounds like... Quite a rumor. 2. Legends is a video game, not an animated TV show or movie. Therefore it isn't anime. 3. Well, it's not really SPAM, but a little off-topic as this is an advertisement for a board about anime and not an actual topic ABOUT anime.

the drugs thing, that was a joke. Some of the animes I've heard about have people that turn into pigs, and crossdressing animals, so you have to think whoever thought of that had a little help... . It was a joke, I don't really believe animes had anything to do with drugs. What I really meant was that legends had a slightly anime feel to it, just by how there hair looked. It doesn't show many other relations to animes, everything that you see in Legends, has some kind of explanation, such as refractors and stuff.

Hah! I know what you mean. Sorry I didn't realize you were joking... You know how some people are about that kind of thing. And yeah, in that regard, you're right. Legends does have an anime feel to it, but I've always attributed that to the fact that the Japanese use that "anime" style for most everything, not necessarily that Legends was designed to look like an anime. Anyway, I think I'm getting off topic... Was that board WindKitsune's board, by chance? She deleted her account, so I can't really check...

She deleted her Account...
I didn't know that...
I'll have to consider that...
And JMC, those views on anime will have to be... adjusted. Those crazy anime have their fan bases, but when it comes to shows like Ramana 1/2 where it gets crazy like that I'm not really a fan. Whereas if you've ever seen a show like Outlaw Star it is entirely plausible and better than most anything, if not everything, we have in America... Darn you Seignfield, now everybody wants to make a show about nothing, and its all your fault...

I've stayed as far away from anime as soon I saw some of the anime my friends were reading, just stupid, crazy, and maybe retarded stuff. Now I try to stay away from all animes, its like automatic, not something I control, its like something burned into my brain... am I just rambling to a phychiatrist. Maybe not all anime is crazy, stupid, over the top, wierd, retarded, but from what I've seen it is.
Another thing is that I don't like is that if you don't watch every episode, you'll be lost, really, really lost

I'm just saying think about American cartoons, or sitcoms, how many of them are good? If you have a brain then not many... however, as far too many people don't they have no problem watching that mindless slop that we get. Ergo, when it comes to Anime, out of thousands and thousands of series, I like maybe seven of them... 1000 upon 1000 by 7... the odds are not stacked in their favor. Plus you have to be careful because a lot of those scum sucking Japanese think that naked girls are just a part of life (they wish!) and while I'm not going to 'insist' you watch some anime, I'm just saying that even though the pickings are slim the good ones are (or can be) really good... just don't trust reviews and order a couple of episodes on the free side of pay-per-view, via the anime network first.

As for me joining TOS, I don’t think I’d fit in over there. I like some anime, but my selection is limited. I only really like anime that has deep, involving, and preferably complex storylines that really make you have to think. Personally I like to use my brain as much as possible, not just sit in front of a TV with my brain melting as a bunch of idiots do random retarded things (the majority of American TV shows). As for JMC Well, I think Justin has the wrong idea of anime. He seems to be thinking of horrid things like DBZ (talking pigs, dogs that rule the world, repetitive stories, etc) and Yu-Gi-Oh (one of many shows made solely to sell a product). These are anime, but these are targeted towards the easily amused and the young. These anime would fit under the “retarded and stupid” or the “were they on drugs?” categories. You would have to see more than your friend’s book and a few shows on the WB or ABC Family to actually know what anime is. You can’t base your thoughts on anime on mere feelings. That would be like me saying that I don’t think toast is good because I have a feeling. Only when I have tasted the toast can I say that I either do or do not like it. I always thought that I hated spinach-artichoke dip. I never tasted it, but something told me that I hated it. I did end up tasting it a few days before this past Thanksgiving, and now it’s one of my favorite foods. It isn’t very fair to base your whole opinion of anime on something that your friends were reading without ever seeing it for yourself. Yes, not all anime is good (Super Milk-Chan and DBZ are on the bad side, though some would say otherwise), but if you can avoid the bad, most anime have deep involving stories and characters with rich backgrounds. Personally, I can’t stand the randomness of some American shows like Sea Lab 2021 (I’ll probably be killed for that due to the hordes of mindless idiots who love it, but personally there just isn’t much to laugh at there). I like the complex stories that you actually have to use your brain to understand (if people can claim FF7’s story is complex, it just shows how little thought people are willing to put into understanding things). There are some that are crazy (Excel Saga, though that isn’t a bad thing), stupid (Super Milk-Chan), and retarded (DBZ… yes, I hate the over used, repetitive, and predictable stories, annoying muscle bound Nazis (you did notice that they had to turn into tall blonde-haired blue-eyed people to be able to defeat anyone.), and retarded battles.) I can understand why you don’t like anime, but it’s more or less likely because your friends were reading something like DBZ. It’s pretty much the FF7 of anime here in the US. There isn’t much to it, but a lot of people like it for no good reason and will also defend it to the death… stupid fanboys… Most of the good anime fit into the action area. Like BM 1-3 said there is Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop (it sounds stupid, but it isn’t), and Trigun to just name a few. There are a lot of anime that is… ummm… well… let’s just say labeling them perverted is going easy on them. Most (normal) people avoid this, and it is easily done so long as you don’t go to Japan (It isn't the technological land of cherry blossoms that some people claim it is...). Sounds like DBZ to me (talking pigs and a dog that rules the world… yeah, about those drugs…). Most anime either has no anthropomorphs (a stylized human-like figure, usually animals in a human form) or they’re in an extreme minority. As for the cross dressing… darn you Lucius… yes, there are guys who look like girls (bishounen – pretty boy), but… well, they aren’t everywhere though most anime has at least one. Some of them are… well… take a wild guess, but not all are. Anime is just a generalization of a style of art. Actual anime has many genres, so you just have to find what you like and watch. To truly have an opinion on something you must first know what it is, how it works, why it is, and so on. You have to experience it first hand. If someone says something bad about something, they've either seen/tried it and truly don’t like it, have no idea what they’re talking about, or just say that because everyone else does. You don’t have to like anime, but at least give it a chance. You never know, you might actually like what you find… or not… ___________________________________________ As for BM 1-3, you just have to be patient. Some boards grow slowly, but these boards develop a family like atmosphere because everyone knows everyone else. Eventually you’ll get some more members. Still, it does seem like everyone has a forum these days… For those who don’t know where the site is… otakus.proboards40.com/index.cgiUnfortunately, only members are allowed to do stuff. Guests can’t even view the forums beyond the front page. As for me, I have to go off before the hordes of Yu-Gi-Oh, DBZ, and Sea Lab 2021 fans come to lynch me. Huzzah!

I always liked Urusei Yatsura quite a bit, but it's quite hard to find in America.
Dragon-Half was also one of my favorites, also very hard to find. I prefer the quirky funny ones to the over-angsty ones, myself, although I don't honestly watch that many.
Inspector Gadget might technically have been one, since it was clearly stylistically Japanese.

Um.... Yeah... DBZ is complete crap. Not that I've seen much... lost interest after 1 episode. Same with Yu-Gi-Oh.
.....Fruits Basket is really good and funny, though....
Um, as for Manga... FLCL is good, although it makes no sense....
And Brigadoon is a great Manga. It even has a robot. ;D
