Yeah, if any of you bothered to look at my 1up Page or really anywhere else I was at while I was away, you probably saw my picture, but well yeah... I figure why not. I may actually get a response here. Anyway, I took another stab at CGing. Failed miserably as usual. I'd post just the pencil and paper sketch, but my scanner really blows. That or it's really good, I'm not sure. Picks up all the little un-noticeable things: smudges on the paper from my hand, all sorts of junk like that. >.< You know the things in real life you wouldn't notice. Stalling? My my, you're an impatient one, aren't you? Fine, fine, here. This is a picture of me as a Jedi. ^^; Yeah, I'm posting the small version because you can really see my mistakes in the full sized version. also, I've been saying that the little footnote there is for a different site on every site I posted this on. Honestly, I don't even know why I put it there, so ignore it. Bash away, I don't care. I have another picture of a similar nature that I'm going to try to do a better job with. Honestly, I think tracing over the lines is easier to do in Paint than anything else. >_< But yeah. I know it's not good. If you feel the need to tell me so, that's fine, though.

I still say you're jedi obsession is to unhealthy proportions at this point. I'll admit, I thought of Star Wars a while ago, but it wasn't to the point where I quoted it every other sentence... (I'll admit, though, you've gotten better...you've stopped doing this) Still, the image isn't that bad, considering you're more a spriter. Wouldn't mind seeing your efforts of spriting yourself with large, '32-bit' sprites.

EDIT: Chiz's post wasn't there before... hold on. Blues: No real history goin on here. I wanted to learn to draw folds, I was really obsessed with Star Wars at the time. My scanner didn't make the picture come out well, I figured "Hey, why not CG it?" Compared to just about every other picture I've ever seen anyone post online, mine is absolute crap. I'm not nervous, I'm just a little fish in a big ocean here. I'm sure there're proportions that are off, I completely blew off at least three layers of shading, all sorts of other stuff. >_< I should stick to the confinement of a few little 8x8 tiles. @chiz: I haven't really expressed my Star Wars obsession in a while... but that's nothing, you should see my MySpace page. That's going to change soon to make way for a Metroid Prime Hunters theme though, I think. Anyway, the picture's probably better than that chibi crap I pulled a while back, but eh... it's not that good. I haven't sprote in a long time. And I haven't really had the will to finish any of my spriting ventures. Remember that one Yuna sprite I did like, right before I left? Yeah, 'I'm gunna fix it' I said. Haven't touched it since. Wanted to the other day. But yeah... I just don't feel like spriting anymore. =/ EDIT 2: Yeah, I know we quit keeping track a while ago, but this post here was #100 for me, so yeah... just felt like mentioning that.

It's good to expand your horizons.. you'll be able to better express yourself.

Expanding horizons is harder to do when you're travelling on foot.
w00t for metaphors!
honestly, I doubt I'll ever have anything resembling artistic talent. I see people that can just sit down and throw some lines down on a sheet of paper and make something that looks better than everything I've ever drawn combined. ;_;

Yes, but then it's that much more rewarding!
...Or, that's what they say...
Don't be so negative! Lighten up! Try, and work hard! And if this isn't for you, you can try something else, like clay models.

You seem to be only looking at art from a traditional approach; it's not for everyone, and I think you are being too harsh on yourself, but there are other ways to express yourself and be satisfied. Have you tried conceptual art like abstraction or performance arts?

Lies. All lies. It's no more rewarding for me to give my best shot, and then some, to make some crappy picture, than it is for someone with actual talent to make a lazy doodle that looks a zillion times better. It's little more than discouraging, really. I totally fail to see the logic there. I want to draw, though. >_< I'm just really, really bad at it. I'm not really sure what abstraction or performance arts are(I'm guessing the latter might involve acting), but yeah.. I dunno. I really doubt I'm being too harsh on myself. =/

Not to sound like a broken record then: If you are willing to improve yourself and work from what you have done, then you should be in good shape in time. Learning to draw takes a lot of work and can be an uphill struggle, especially from your own frustrations and those of others (most of the flak will come from yourself -- you really are your own worst critic). Abstraction is making art with around a concept rather than a traditional approach: I.e. you're not just painting a house as you see it. There are a lot of ways you can go with abstract stuff, as you can portray a mood or feeling. I was at the Modern in Ft. Worth the other day, and a guy had a gallery based off patches over color meant to evoke moods. Needless to say, simple as it was, it gave me an interesting headtrip: Performance arts can be acting, yes, and then it can be some other interesting things like displays with the human body. I haven't seen a terrible lot of it as it isn't one of my things, but I'm not sure what you're into artistically or what have you been exploring outside of drawing things on paper. You will get better in time if you work at it. It may not seem like it for a time, but the trick is to keep your old stuff, as monstrous as it might look, and compare it down the road with what you can do now in the future. You'll notice, even as slight as it might be; I've seen people who have been drawing for over a decade and SOMEHOW, just SOMEHOW NOT GETTING AN OUNCE BETTER. You have the mental capacity, I'm sure; if you say lesser of yourself otherwise, you're lying. D:

*sigh* People ignore my topics if I'm not hard on myself.. it's literally the only way I get any sort response, which I would think, says something about my talent or lack thereof. Yeah, I've tried like zillions of approaches at drawing. Like some "How To Draw" type books suggest drawing basic geometrical figures and such, stringing them together, and building upon them. Or like basic little ways to figure proportions. All that junk. I've tried the abstract and I just end up making weird stuff. It's not worth it, my brain doesn't work that way. Made a few cool wallpapers in Paint Shop Pro, that might be considered abstract somehow, but yeah.. I'm not really even sure where those are now. And the physical stuff. I dunno, I'm not really good at any of that either. As for other expressive means... I considered trying to get into 3D Modelling, but after taking half a course on that this past year I've come to the conclusion that I will surely be dead before I learn to fully use that program. Plus a good number of 3D Modellers use concept drawings in their work so yeah... and having tried to just randomly create masses of polygons in class and quite literally failing that miserable, I kinda doubt that's something I'll really be able to pursue, though I must say I really respect anyone who's good at that. Needless to say I'm not looking forward to that class again next year. I may get better, I probably have since my last ventures in drawing and CG(though I think I liked the harder shading better... and I still haven't gotten hands down, though it those also looked a little bit better in the original sketchy) I dunno, I really don't like coming off so negative but yeah. .<- talented arty people make me feel this big EDIT: If anyone really wants to see, here's the crappy scan of the drawing. Wheee.

Yeah, I've tried like zillions of approaches at drawing. Like some "How To Draw" type books suggest drawing basic geometrical figures and such, stringing them together, and building upon them. Or like basic little ways to figure proportions. All that junk. Those books actually made my drawing worse... they actually force you to take less stuff for granted. There was only 1 drawing book I ever found that helped my drawing, but it's not published anymore. I just use basic models now, drawing what I see. I'm not a half-bad artist, but the main thing is practice, practice, practice. People say I'm fairly good, but that doesn't stop me from feeling inadequate. One thing about many cartoonists is that they're not the best or most realistic drawers in the world. Look at Peanuts, for example. I'm sure if you try drawing something simply, I can come out quite well. I've done something simple and unartistic on Art.com before that wasn't particularly detailed or impressive, but still held a peculiar charm. Still, nice pic.

Both of your drawings are pretty good! I always have a rediculously hard time drawing on the computer.
