^ Cause everyone else on the MMLEx team has an updates thread. This is basically going to be a place where I can show off my latest work building levels for MMLEx. Please feel free to comment on the work, however, some comments may be deleted if inappropriate or unrelated. Current Project: MMLEx v5 Demo Ruin (Recreation of second MML1 ruin)
Oh yeah, something interesting I found - this time, last year (in fact, it'll be exactly one year since in a few days), I was working on a fan city for MMLEx called Starkan. From what I've been told by JMC, this town was mentioned in the original story that AaronD outlined. The original story cannot be used in MMLEx anymore, due to in-team disputes (which I won't get into) and thus Starkan had to be dumped too. However, I found some screenshots of an early Starkan for you all to look at: Starkan was the first level I ever did for MMLEx, and it was this that convinced JMC that I "had to do all the outdoor levels, because [his] just sucked". EDIT BY JMC47 I will not allow this to go undefended. Wait... he is way better than me at level design and graphics, plus texturing. Uh... I can... Anyway he has gotten much better than before as you can see.

Almost? They´re better than the original. How on earth did you manage that?!

so I see you liked moving to 512x512 What're you talking about? This is the power of 256x256 textures, which is going to be used almost exclusively in the upcoming demo. Besides, from the reaction of how good my 256x256 textures look, I still say 512x512 is more trouble than what it's worth.

They're a little brighter than the originals, but I honestly like it better that way. And your versions look a lot sharper too.

They're a little brighter than the originals, but I honestly like it better that way. For whatever reason, JMC wanted me to dump a lot of the lighting and make the ruins quite a bit darker than the original ones. *shrugs* Here's a 1024x768 background for everyone who wants it...it's an overview of my current progress on the ruins, along with 6 screenshots. It also serves and a nice, but incomplete map for when the demo comes out.

Quite frankly, just about anything in 3D excites me to no end. That's just the way I am, I suppose. I think it looks great; the light looks fine, but I actually do think I see where JMC's coming from. One of the most fun parts about the games was not being able to see a thing of your opponent (besides the odd Reaverbot eye) until you got up to them; it also gave Roll's sad, sad life as a Spotter just a bit of purpose.

I don't know if the ruins were really all that dark.. things looked a bit washed out from far away maybe, but.. I suppose it had a certain charm to it. At least that's from what I remember. It's actually been a while since I played Legends. Those ruins look pretty amazing. Everything looks a lot sharper than even in the actual games. Can you legally do this though? Isn't there some sort of copyright infringement type stuff in that. I mean, a fangame is one thing, but a re-creation of part of the actual game? Seems like a bit much.

These ruins I'm making now will most likely not be in the final game. This is just being selected as a demo ruin because 1 - it's familiarity (everyone's who's played MML1 has had to play in this ruin) and 2 - it's size (it's not that big).
I suppose it could be looked at like Chrono Resurrection vs SquareEnix, but I personally think of Capcom was really out to stop this project, they would've contacted us somehow by now. I mean, type "Megaman Legends fangame" into Google. MMLEx is the first result.
I've added today's 3 comparisons to the top of the thread.

New ones look very sharp as well. .. But perhaps a bit too sharp. These are ruins afterall. Still it's pretty awesome. Can't wait for the next batch.

New ones look...perhaps a bit too sharp. These are ruins afterall. There's a good explaination. MMLEx does not take place in the time of MML, nor does the demo. There won't be any 'ruins' in MMLEx, everything will be clean and new. That's why the 'ruins' look the way they do. Either way, most of the sharp look is the golden lighting I've flooded the place with, because it makes everything look grandiose and magnificent. The light will be altered for the demo.

Oh, not bad. I don’t know much about 3-D modeling and texturing, but I do like the way those turned out. Very vibrant and colorful. I was going to bring up that bit about them being ruins, but I see that’s been covered. I like the way you brought out the patterns on the walls and floors. I had hardly noticed those circuit-like likes before. The ruins actually seem to be on and living in your levels. I liked the subdued look of the originals, but if you were really going for a newer look with the ruins, you’ve done a great job.
And just to spread some gossip, you say that there won’t be any actual ruins in MMLEx. That things will be clean and new. Does this mean that the setting will be in the past somewhere? o.o
Possibly! Maybe. Perhaps...
