Hey everyone, sorry for making a new thread for this but I'd like to get some attention and commentary on this: There was this Dr. Pepper manga contest that I entered and the top 20 are here: www.shonenjump.com/drpeppercontest/vote.phpHere was my entry for it: img34.photobucket.com/albums/v103/Shelldragon/resized_dp.jpgCompare the two... Then you'll know why I'm massively bummed. I wish they would let me know WHY they choose what they did, especially when I followed the rules to the letter and even triple checked that I wasn't in any violation. Thanks for listening to me complain. ~Later all.

When I was younger and subscribed to Nickelodeon's infamous magazine, I submitted things to them all the time but nothing was ever published. Your frustrations are not alone.
Personally, I think the coloring blending killed your entry, Shell. If the colors had blended in with the lines better, you might have gotten it in. The road could've used a little work as well. If you just straighted the yellow marky lines, it'd help your case. *nods* It's overall a nice line art picture with a coloring job that could use a little work.
What irks me though is that they accepted entries featuring one of my pet peeves of scanning in stuff: NOT CROPPING THE PICTURE. Look, newbie with a scanner, I don't want to see the specks of food or your laundry list in the corner of the page along with your drawing at the other corner. Do the world and my bandwidth a favor: CROP.
The above is for everyone else that wants to put up art. Cropping is very easy to do (and crap, a must learn) in a fancy program like Photoshop or Paintshop. And forget the MS Paint excuse - it's harder to crop images on it but when I had the program working, I could still do it just by positioning the subject and shrinking the canvas arrows.
@_@ There. I'm done. *falls over*

I have to disagree with Tweety here. Shelldragon this is the first horrendous act injustice that has made me smile in a long time. When I look at your picture, which they threw to the wayside, compared to the three year old scribbles they accepted (four pictures over from start) I have to either smile or throw an axe through my computer. Ouch is what I say. I mean your picture isn't pristine gold, something that I have found in a lot of good things I do when I look back in hindsight in them, but its definitely worthy of the top twenty. I think this is one of those "Its not what you do, but who you do," situations. Er... something like that.

Maybe they had age groups or something to decide who gets into the top twenty? You know, just to make little junior with his first set of markers feel better. Pleh, I say. In a professional contest, they wouldn't do that. >XD It'd be based on skill, baby. I'd rather enter a less age-biased contest, even though that's not going to be likely in a magazine with a large age range like Shonen Jump. (Yet again, sometimes you have to wonder what the judges have been smoking!)

Ouch is what I say. I mean your picture isn't pristine gold, something that I have found in a lot of good things I do when I look back in hindsight in them OH that was Typo Just a side note, because I feel bad. When I wrote this I meant to say when I do something I sometimes get really excited about it and I like to think its the best thing I've ever done, but when I look back at the finished work I actually did a not-so-good/bad job. When it comes to your work I honestly like it but pristine gold is more of a Magna Opus (life's work) rather than a contest entry if you know what I mean . When I read that again today it really made me look like a Jack aff, I sounded like everything I had done was so cool, when I was trying to be sympathetic to Shelldragon's plight. Sorry...
