I'm curious to know what are some of your thoughts for what the mechanical beasties resemble or their inspirations, whether it be one animal, plant, inanimate objects, or a combination of many different ones. It's like gazing at the sky and seeing shapes in the clouds, but instead of clouds, it's Reaverbots, and would be a lot more terrifing if they were real. This mainly applies to the more abstract Reavers from MML1, but the same could be applied to those in MoTB and MML2 (although the inspirations for the latter's cast of Reaverbots are more or less obvious.) As always, providing reasons for your perspective is nice. And now, on to the conjectures. It'll be interesting to see what people make out of these rather abstract robotic critters.
Here's what I see when I see the Reaverbots:
Mega Man Legends:
Zakobon: Don't know.
Arukoitan: Still don't know.
Orudakoitan: A satellite/antenna/transceiver thingy for "I don't know #2."
Canaam: I don't know about you, but I see a monkey more than a spider when I see this crawling about the ceiling. Sure, I see the buglike aspect of it when it jumps around to face you, but anatomy-wise this guy resembles more of a primate than an arachnid. It has 4 limbs, a neck, head, and a tail. The bombs would be akin to coconuts or some other round fruit being tossed at its attacker.
Firushudot: A lot of people keep saying crocodile/alligator on this one, but as with the previous Reaver, I have other ideas. The finlike forlimbs, its sonic attacks, and even its motions remind me of a seal than a semi-aquatic reptile. Other than being green and having a more croc-like snout, its core build, its "primary form" says seal more than gator. It also helps to mention that Jakkos have long snouts, too.
Hanmuru Doll: Aside from having multiple pairs of legs, this guy looks like one of those trolls that live under a bridge. However, knowing that the Japanese like taking things from their own backyard, so to speak, the real inspiration for this is probably an oni or some other related yokai. Specifically, one that wields clubs and bearing a single horn on top of the head.
Karumuna Bash: Definitely reeks of wolf, especially considering how the first three attack together in one room like a pack. Though I've never seen wolves breathe fire before...
Guruguru/Kuruguru: I think these are meant to resemble beetles considering their hard tops, which are not unlike a beetle's thick wing coverts. Though, their form makes me think of ticks that have gorged on something's/someone's blood before hand .
Mirumijee: I'm just going to have to agree with the Junk Shop owner on this one...
Foo-Roo: Floating golden severed heads. Beautiful.
Jakkos and their nests:Bees Wasps. Especially with the "honeycomb" structures wasps build to cradle their offspring in before the nest is fully developed, which ironically resembles the center of a fully-developed wasp's nest.
Miroc: I can't help but imagine a badminton shuttlecock with legs whenever I see these things. I don't know, some kind of a bird, perhaps? Could also be inspired by those fabric doll-like things that are hung up outside someone's door in old Japan. Again, I can't help but think of what other Japanese references the MML developers could be hiding. Do you know what I'm talking about? I don't remember what they're called...
Gorubeshu: This one looks like someone wearing one of those large cone-shaped hats that I've seen people working in rice paddies wearing...
Karubun: The real hippopotamuses of MML . They've got chunky limbs and a big, round, and wide gaping mouth that can open at a wide angle, like a hippo.
Gai-nee Toren: Whoa it's a caterpiller! Those arm looking things could be antennae. Could also be a centipede, but I'm leaning more on butterfly larva or some knid of grub.
Misadventures of Tron Bonne:
Fritto: A lantern, maybe? I think I'm trying to pull ideas out my butt at this point.
Arjig: Crabs. I guess this where Tron got the idea for her crab mech in MML2.
Oyazan: Giant antlion.
Habarool: Giant cigarette butt with four legs... yep, I'm definitely pulling ideas out my butt.
Hippulbash & kids: Sorry, but Karubuns are more hippo-like than you. Sorry, not sorry.
Fuyuu: No clue.
Mega Man Legends 2:
Fingerii: Kind of similar to Arukoitans with their overall shape and movement, but function every differently. Odd name.
Amistal: Hmm, this one could be potentially based of a some sort of sea creature considering its "tentacles" or "bristles." Can't put a finger on what exactly what it's based on though.
Snowlbit: Rabbits. Could be fleas, too (why do I keep thinking that some Reavers are parasites? Fleas, ticks, worms, ugh. At least they haven't come up with a mosquito Reaverbot yet...)
Mamoo: Too obvious.
Wolfon: It's name is "Wolfon." Need I say more?
Poh: Just your friendly neighborhood zombie. Not affiliated with a certain famous poet.
Inmii: They never seem to stop coming, run along the ditches in the hallways, and are fairly small... ants, perhaps?
Puurian: Venus flytraps + every other plant that outputs copious amounts of pollen. Spring's just around the corner, so yeah. That's what made me bring that up.
Tarble: No clue. It is kinda cute when they fall over though.
Galgafummi, Frongel, and Otomarn: Stages of a frog's lifecycle. 'Nuff said.
Balfura: Dragonfly. Didn't know they were so nutritious, though.
Norieibi: I want to say piranhas with this one, especially since they are seen swimming together and attack in groups. Could be lionfish, though, or sharks. (Heh, though there's already a shark-like mech in the game - the Bonne's Blitzkreg.)
Midosu: Jellyfish.*yawning* Moving on.
Miitan: Dolls. Dolls of death and sadness, that is. Probably taken from that whole thing about dolls possessing a soul in Japanese folklore.
Juunid: A pufferfish, most probably. It's not going to make me try fugu at a sushi shop. Nope. Indeed, I greatly value my health/life.
Mandomantal: A manta ray, due to its fairly large size and gentle nature (it helps that it has the word "manta" in its name.) Don't know about trilobites, but I guess its back kind of resembles the exoskeletal plates on a trilobite's back.
Koni: Don't know.
Shoebafun: Bear traps, or in this case, Digger traps.
Janfoden: Chickens with forelegs instead of wings. It has a crest and waddle. Wins the reward for ugliest Reaverbot in all of the series.
Wojigairon: I know that the MMKB describes it as dinosaur-like, but other than it's large size, I don't see it. I don't know, maybe it's because it lacks a tail and the fact that it lumbers towards you while the room has lava in it more akin to a person walking upright than anything befitting for Jurassic Park.
Hangekal: Keys, like the stereotypical keys with a head, teeth, and legs... wait, keys don't have those .They wanted to be so literal with this one. Makes me wonder if someone on the MML2 dev team was known for losing/misplacing his keys and decided to make these things as a joke. It be funny to know if that was indeed the case...
Sukaritt: Speaking of social commentary, what do you suppose this one's about? I reckon this might have something to do with the fact that traditionally Japanese wives control the home's finances, and that their hapless husbands work long and hard for the money only for their spouses to snatch up their earnings in the end. Come on, you know that these things make a giggling sound effect when they see money! Anybody remember that old pic of Roll as a Sukaritt I made a while back? Yeah, it's something along those lines.
Juraid: This one's... unique. Definitely a more original design, though its flappy arms make me think of those inflatable noodle men that some businesses place outside use to attact potential buyers. Definitely not a design that would work too well in the ruin depths; it's too silly looking for the dark, dank corridors of the ruin chains.
Rimblemenji: Honestly, who does not think of the Yellow/Green Devil from classic Mega Man when they see this Reaverbot?
...If I didn't mention any, it's probably because I've heard about some of their origins from elsewhere or just genuinely don't have any ideas for them.
