So, I've been doing a lot of reading about Mega Man Legends 3 lately and one of the things that's mystified me is what exactly Tinker's role would have been in the game, had we actually gotten to play it.
From what I understand, he's a robot that looks like a ferret who wandered into some ruins and Barrett and the Bright Bats find him. I guess he was supposed to be kind of mischievous and both he and Barrett become friends because Barrett is the only guy who sticks up for him while the rest of the Gang really dislike him for various reasons.
I wonder what role Tinker would have played in MML 3. Did he simply exist as a comic relief character and as a means to save your game, much like how Data was in the first two games? Would he perform these functions, as well as be kind of like an analog to Rush from the original Megaman series?
And then I have to wonder, if Tinker was supposed to be like Data, did that mean that he had some greater purpose in the game than simply being there? Was he a storage unit like data was, created by some ancient purifier model, possibly Barrett in a previous lifetime, assuming that Barrett is tied to the distant past much like Trigger was?
And then I can't help but wonder if Tinker had a more darker purpose in the game. After all, he was wearing a belt with a Reaverbot eye on it. And from what I've read, the eye would act strangely whenever he was around a robot.
Maybe Tinker was in fact some kind of key that was locked away by the Master and his people, perhaps a living ignition switch for the Elder System, or even maybe a counterpart to Sera, a kind of Father Unit instead of Mother that served as the System's regulator and his Consciousness was transferred into that body to render him weak.
And maybe by finding him, Barrett and the Bright Bats inadvertently cause the Elder system to awaken earlier than it should...
Ugh, I'm rambling now. What do you all think? Tinker: Friend or Foe?
