It certainly sheds some light onto their motivations. I'm not sure how effective it'll be having old games out to hype new ones that haven't even been announced, unless they're just going straight for MM11 after MMLC2. The timing looks like a mess, considering the only thing on the horizon besides LC2 would be that TV show that keeps getting pushed back. If Legacy Collection 2 really takes that long to make, I'm not even sure Legacy Collection 1 would still be circulating, digital copies notwithstanding. It looks like most of the LC1 sales have been for hard copies, not digital downloads, but I'm not sure how reliable this site is. Most of it boils down to, "How should one go about marketing 30-year-old games to new fans?" The whole situation's a huge mess, and up until now the default answer's been "Make a new subseries and fracture the fanbase." I worry that this time around it'll be more of the same, and whatever comes of that TV show just makes an eighth branch instead of uniting the seven we've got.

Well, there's currently no real way to get access to MM games on the majority of current consoles. With the exception of the Wii U and 3DS' virtual console library, you really don't have options. As a matter of fact, I think the only MM game you can purchase on steam or PS4 currently IS Legacy Collection. So efforts like these at least make the games accessible to newer fans or people that just don't have old gen consoles. A good idea would be for them to follow up with the X titles, especially with the attention that X and Sigma are getting in MvCI. The whole situation's a huge mess, and up until now the default answer's been "Make a new subseries and fracture the fanbase." I worry that this time around it'll be more of the same, and whatever comes of that TV show just makes an eighth branch instead of uniting the seven we've got. Yeah, this is really what bit the franchise in the butt. It was extremely successful when Battle Network did it, but they've never been able to duplicate that effect since then, and all it's done is divide their profit margin even further. That said, I could see the TV series turning into another classic series game, but I don't see it as 'different' enough to warrant a new subseries.

That said, I could see the TV series turning into another classic series game, but I don't see it as 'different' enough to warrant a new subseries. I wouldn't care one way or the other, but what I'm concerned about is the Classic fanbase. They're generally the oldest of all of us and haven't exactly been on their best behavior since Inafune left. Lots of "Shut up, subseries fans, Classic's where it started, and nothing else should matter right now." If whatever new game happens takes enough cues from the TV show...I don't think they'd take it well. At least not if they didn't have kids who liked the new one. Maybe the existence of a kid would help temper the whole "They changed it, now it sucks" mentality. That might be what they're thinking here, actually. They've assumed every Classic Dad (TM) is literally a Classic Dad, and want to seize the opportunity for kids to get hooked on this show and then parents to pull out their NES games and go, "You think that's cool, you should try this!" The results of that...well, I can see that going either very well or very poorly depending on the kid. Honestly, I don't think many of them have the persistence required to learn NES Classic. Not in a world where tutorial levels are standard and saving is a given, not an option.

I don't buy it. This can't be a real leak. Legacy Collection was a lackluster repackaging of the original six Megaman games with no real bonus features or extra game modes. There was nothing like a boss rush, an endless stage, or even an art gallery and sound test in Legacy Collection; all we got on the 3DS version, if I recall correctly, was a bunch of shitty bonus challenges unlocked with a Mega Man amiibo, which people really only wanted for Figure Player usage in Smash Bros. 3DS/WiiU and for the collectible nostalgia feel. And if it is real, it'll probably be just more of the same as Legacy Collection 1. I even bet that since it's Mega Man 7, 8, 9 and 10 that it'll be New 3DS only, meaning it's just a bottom-barrel cash-in for the upcoming release of the New 2DS XL.
I hate to be the cynic here, but I'm kind of the Robert Edward O. Speedwagon of these parts, having seen a lot of people and cash-in attempts in my time, so I've developed a nose for this sort of thing. And let me tell you, this all reeks worse than the stench of evil coming off Dio Brando, if you ask me. This is just low-effort repackaging, no two bones about it. And as a once-loyal Megaman fan, count me out, man.

They've been doing a lot of these collection releases lately. I'm not against it, especially with MM9 and MM10 not being on any current gen consoles yet. I don't see them making new ones any time in the near future either. The people that made those games are gone from the company for the most part and have been for years.

I am really hoping for a portable release of MMLC2, let it be on the 3DS or Switch so I can play it during my daily commute.

Yeah, I was really stunned to hear there was no Nintendo version of the game. Feels like a slapped together work as a result, and I don't even think it's being done by the same people that did the first one and the Disney game collection. That's unfortunate.

Here is hoping that it isn't because of megaman 8 that it's not in Nintendo consoles. It would be cool to get all 10 games in my 3DS

The Gamecube Mega Man collection game had 8 on it. I think it was a more rushed version that didn't take the Switch into account. The 3DS would probably not be able to handle 9 or 10, though.
