Which island was the most fun or engaging for you, and by the same token, which one was the least fun or least interesting to explore?
I suppose it's sort of cheating to put the very first island as my favorite, but something about Manda Island feels more interesting to me than the others. I think it's the only island I enjoyed 100% of the way through - every other one had little (or major) bits that irked me. I also enjoyed the aesthetic of the island quite a bit, and it had my favorite ruins theme.
I'm pretty sure everyone is expecting me to say that Nino Island was the worst, and I have news for you - you are absolutely correct. Even if I like Ruminoa City, man did they put all their bad ideas in one area. I can't even tell you how many times the Mayor committed mass genocide just because one stupid little Birdbot snuck behind my back. And I'm pretty sure everything that can be said about those ruins has already been said a thousand times over.

Calinca Island was my favorite overall. Best climate, best music, best plot development...I'd have liked to be able to see and use the train before the pirates stole it, but otherwise it was really cool, no pun intended. And it had duck-riding and can-kicking! What more do you need? I actually liked Saul Kada even less than Nino. I probably don't need to explain why Nino sucked, but Kimotoma City was noteworthy as the only place where over half the city gets sealed off permanently, which is a real let-down for anyone who likes to explore and revisit everything. I mean, Nino has areas you can't revisit as well, but they're literally just docks with nothing on them. You park the Flutter on a dock just like it. Kimotoma City is also home to the worst music track in the game. If they swapped Nino and Saul Kada's ruins, that would have made the decision a lot easier. It would have definitely been unexpected to take an elevator down into the middle of the ocean and find a volcano, and the S-license ruins in Saul Kada already set a precedent for secret underwater areas in the desert. With that in mind, I'm not even sure it'd be fair to bash Nino on having an annoying underwater ruin when Saul Kada ALSO has an annoying underwater ruin. At least Nino switches up the scenery. Saul Kada's underwater romp is literally nothing you haven't seen already.

Yeah, Saul Kada is pretty stinky too. Glyde's invasion of Nino is what really pushes it over the edge to me, though.

Honestly, I liked Saul Kada quite a bit - I'd go so far as to say it's my favorite. As big of a pain as some of the areas in the ruins were, I absolutely loved the theme of the place, both above and under the ground. Fighting off the Bonnes to get into the city was amazingly fun as well, earning points for the island.
I've never liked Forbidden island. The snowstorm is obnoxious, most of the reaverbots are pretty dull in my opinion, and the bosses are lackluster - as cool as the wolf attack was the first time, it gets annoying every other playthrough. Outside of that place, though, I loved all of the areas.

I do like certain aspects of Saul Kada - helping Tron out is something I really enjoy. The ruins themselves are probably on the better end of Legends 2 as a whole. But the actual island aspect of it is a bit flimsy to me. (They're all kinda flimsy to me, honestly - having a central hub like Kattelox Island helped things seem more alive IMO.)

i shall be 100% honest...
i would likely say Calbania island. its a small island yes, but its so free and open. i like the look of the island aswell. the weather, and the plains, and the music. and off course we have Glyde`s base. Wich even can be hard at times.
as for the my worst
dear.. that goes to Saulkada i guess. The bonnes army where horribly weak, compared too glyde`s army... and the blitzkrieg was just annoying. the saul kada ruins theme and design are lovely... but data is pretty unfair here, he only appears 1 place in the whole ruins.. i wish they at least could make the bonnes a bit more challenge, that would change alot, also you don`t really get to see lot of kimotoma city after the bonnes invasion, as most of the places where locked due "rebuilding"

I really like Manda Island and the little Village there, that you can help after it is being destroyed. Oh, and the music is really cool.

Worst: Nino because of that underwater lag and that defending Roll against the missiles bs. (Most of my game time is being stuck in this place, but i finally realized how broken the Ground Crawler is and its now my favorite weapon)
Best: Tough one. Calinca is nice because of the music, atmosphere, and story. Meeting Joe and not realizing until the end it was Roll's dad the whole time.

Best is the desert. A better linear water dungeon, and the rest of the ruins and interactions with the Bonnes, is also great, albeit easy as said earlier. There is a lot to come back and do as well, albeit not as free and open, as also said earlier.
Worst, I want to say, is Nino for the reasons listed above, but I actually really wouldn't change it, because the Glyde ending was funny, and because the fight was really stimulating and a failure was also funny. The fight also made really great use out of weapons such as that high-calibre bullet-gun, compared to usage of MachineBuster from MML. As well as actual strategy added to the combat.
...so instead, I'll say "worst" is Calbania. Has a typo on save, "Over here! This way! Over here! This way!", the timed escape or else you die, the limited health or else you have to back-forth-back-forth, the failed concept of a stealth option, the enemy dialogue and expression not seeming to translate well to english... it has "reasons".
