I did a topic like this a few years back, but this one's going to be more focused. The Mega Man Legends games are great, and I’d love to see them ported to newer consoles (not counting the existing PSOne Classics ports). This series of topics is going to discuss what elements I would change in a remake/remaster of the games. Note that the goal here isn’t fundamentally changing the games, rather adding tweaks to make the overall experience better. General Core Changes- Major glitches fixed. This is kind of a given; glitches like wall clipping and the like would be removed.
- Free look is possible with the right analog stick a la MML2. More camera control is always a good thing.
- Re-balanced Hard Mode. Hard Mode currently does nothing besides up the damage/HP values of enemies, and halve the amount that Zenny is worth. I fundamentally disagree with the way that this is done. Instead, leave the zenny values alone, opting to give enemies and bosses completely new moves. The player gets to keep all of their tools so that they can put them to good use against foes that are legitimately stronger.
- New Game Plus available. This would enable the player to start a new game with all of the zenny that they’ve gained in their playthrough. You can replay the story while not having to grind as hard during the beginning stages.
- Boss Battle Mode available. After beating the game once, allow the player to fight any boss in the game with any weapon of their choice. Great for testing out newer equipment on older bosses.
- More expansive options menu. Allow the player to fully customize their controls, control BGM/SE levels, and the like.
Aesthetic Changes- Updated visuals scaled to 1080p. Upscale the look of the game and smooth out some of the rough edges. Pretty straightforward.
- Text boxes and pause menu more stylized like MML2. Adds some extra visual polish.
- The Life Shield is visually identifiable. The Life Shield’s integrity shouldn’t be visually ambiguous. Sure, you can figure it out that it’s broken if you notice that the health bar stays red for a little too long, but why not add an immediate visual cue? Maybe add the sound effect of glass shattering for extra impact.
With that being said, would you add or subtract any changes, or does everything sound fine? I have a few other topics in mind looking at other issues with the game, but this one's just focusing on the core/visuals of MML1. Discuss away! |

Visually speaking, it'd be nice to see a larger scope to Kattelox and the dungeons. It'd probably take a lot of redesigning, but I think it'd probably be for the better. Everything in Legends 1 felt kind of like a corridor, since it was all very linear and generally in completely straight paths. To make it more immersive, I'd say they should be redesigned to be more open, with more hidden treasures and even NPCs (or in the case of dungeons, Reaverbots). Maybe even take it that extra step further and add a few new weapons to build and toy around with. Options are always nice.
Controls, even though I didn't really have many problems with them in playing Legends 1, would be in need of a serious overhaul. They'd have to be something more in line with controls for other modern games. (I don't know any specific examples - most of what I play predates the year 2000.) It'd be nice to see all the chinks in the armor regarding controls smoothed out, come a remake for Legends 1. I'm sure few people would object to it.

I want to see at least one bonus ruin, since we haven't had much new to explore in the last sixteen years, or a new sidequest in Kattelox, or even just a new townsperson exclusive to a remake. Nothing that changes the game itself very much, just an add-on to make up for lost time.

I want to see at least one bonus ruin, since we haven't had much new to explore in the last sixteen years, or a new sidequest in Kattelox, or even just a new townsperson exclusive to a remake. Nothing that changes the game itself very much, just an add-on to make up for lost time. Oh, stuff like that'll be included in the gameplay segment. I have a few ideas of my own brewing in that department. |

Speaking from the perspective of someone who, when I owned a Playstation 2, played the original four Ratchet & Clank games several times over, I can attest that a 'New Game Plus' would be a very welcome update to the gameplay of Legends 1. Particularly, if a 'Challenge Mode' similar to the Ratchet games, where enemies get incrementally stronger and stronger on subsequent playthroughs, were implemented I'd be happy. Add in a function like the Ratchet games where you had a 'Zenny Multiplier' mechanic on New Game Plus that incremented from 2x Zenny drops to a set maximum, maybe 5x, but reset to 0x whenever you got hit by an enemy attack, and it rewards players taking more risks in gameplay than they used to and makes the game more like a proper action-RPG like it's supposed to be.
The Ratchet games also had a mechanic where, if you had upgraded a weapon to its maximum level on a regular playthrough, on New Game Plus playthroughs you could purchase an upgrade to it that 'prestige-classed' the weapon, allowing you to level it up and make it even stronger than before. This is something not a lot of players might want personally, but I myself would smile like a goofball if this was implemented in some fashion.
This is just my two cents on the whole deal. I'm returning to my hole underneath my rock now. /s
