Meet the Nintendo Switch, the new name for the long-awaited Nintendo NX. What do you guys think? Here's the press release, by the way.

My only real concern for the Switch is the handheld's screen size for having two players. Outside of that, I think it will undoubtedly have ten times the success of the train wreck that was the Wii-U. It'll probably be the next console that my family actually picks up; The newest systems we have are an XBox 360 and a Wii, if that says anything. Super-mobile Skyrim is a plus.

I believe Nintendo learned from the mistakes caused by the wiiU, and they demonstrate it by giving us that quite large list of third party developers involved with the system, it's good to know that companies like Namco, Ea, Arc System Works, Platinum games, Sega (!), IntiCreates and our loved/hated Capcom are going to contribute with (hopefully) a vast range of launch titles to encourage people to buy it.

I'm excited for it. A new, proper 3D Mario on launch is more than enough to draw me in, and the third-party partnerships are also extremely exciting. Who knows? Maybe Nintendo will finally come back out on top this time.

I liked the Wii U to some extent, but it's clear this is more of the full vision that system had. Instead of that Tablet controller that you have to keep in close proximity to the machine, now it's an actual hybrid that can be used as a home console or portable handheld. It's a natural extension, and as long as the lineup can deliver and price is manageable, it looks to also be a pretty awesome device.

I don't think I've been excited for hardware since the Game Boy Advance replaced the Game Boy Color. Ruby Rhod aside, nothing much has changed. I do like the idea of not having to buy a separate handheld, but it's really the games that are going to make or break this. You can only tell so much from a list of interested third parties, and if all they produce is stuff like Carnival Games or Wii Sports, then their support doesn't actually mean too much. But I do hope it succeeds and I hope the software for it is diverse and well-produced. I mean, as far as hardware announcements go, the first Xbox originally seemed interesting to me until I realized there really weren't any games for it that appealed to my tastes at the time, so at this point I couldn't say what I think of the Switch.

If it's a hybrid, though, it's one of those deals where you could play the console while someone else could potentially play the handheld. That idea is so appealing to me for some reason.

Well, I think the upshot I'm taking away from this is that everybody here is really excited about the Switch.
And on a lesser note that Dashe is a fan of The Fifth Element, which is an excellent Bruce Willis movie. I approve immensely.

Aw, that's a bummer. I guess that does make sense though if the portable is the console. You can only have one game in it then. My mind just wasn't working right there.
