The foreign exchange rate has hit a lot of Japanese-based companies hard from what I was reading. They did fine last year with decent profits, but the real sticking point this time around was the botched Street Fighter V launch. It sold 1.4 million early on and has just sat there since, and that game came out prior to this quarter, so yikes. On a side note, seeing Battle Network 4 as the second-highest selling Mega Man title of all-time on Capcom's Platinum Titles List is kind of crazy considering how big of a botch that one turned out to be with its rushed translation. Quite frankly, Capcom comes off as a risk averse company lately, even more than Nintendo gets flak for since that company will at least pull a Splatoon, old IP, or fund stuff like Bayonetta 2 and The Wonderful 101 out of nowhere as compared to just sticking with the tried and true or low-risk cheaper titles like Capcom has... and it's not like they always get those games right lately either.

Yes, SF5 stumbled at the gates, and folks are not as forgiving, this time around.. A lot of the minor titles are helping to staunching the bloodflow- hopefully, Monster Hunter Generations will be a good success.
At most, I can see a lot of digital-only titles, if they decide to go that route..

So, the situation as it stands seems to indicate that we shouldn't break out the Jack and Coke just yet, because Capcom's not completely dead.
Aw shucks. I was hoping to piss on their grave like I have Konami's.

So, the situation as it stands seems to indicate that we shouldn't break out the Jack and Coke just yet, because Capcom's not completely dead. That's not something we necessarily want, even though it's certainly what Capcom deserves. What we want is for them to start making meaningful titles again. Due to the amount of deprivation they've given us on Megaman, releasing a new (meaningful) Megaman game would certainly be big news, and is bound to get them back off the ground. Granted, whenever we hear the name Megaman anymore, what most people think of are sprite jump-and-shoot games, if not "that guy from Smash." This means if Megaman is to keep going the way he's going, he's (most likely) gonna have to compete with Mario in terms of quality gameplay, because that's simply a standard for families nowadays. One thing's for sure: Mario's no sprite character anymore, so they're going to have to do a better job than what they've done with the past 3D releases. Having some story that drives the platforming aside from "8-9 robot masters have gone berserk and Wily's at it again" couldn't hurt their case either, since Mario's jumped around several scenarios that ends up being core mechanics for gameplay. Undoubtedly the release of Legends 3 would've been a good move on their part altogether. Or continuing development on Legends 3 behind our backs was/is a good move too if they're going that route. All in all, it's obvious that their current scheme isn't working out for them in their favor, but the last thing we want is for them to crash and burn, because they own licensing for the blue bomber. But, we can't force them to do anything. It's up to them to decide whether the company will sink or swim.

Capcom could have been on the money train if BN4 was...good. At the time, Battle Network 3 blew up like crazy, to the point where it was Capcom's answer to Pokemon. Games, anime, toys; they were on the right path. BN4 sold like crazy as a result, but since the game itself wasn't the greatest, folks jumped ship. It's sad to think how differently things would have turned out if BN4 actually went through some sort of quality control.

I was hoping to piss on their grave like I have Konami's. As long as they still own Ace Attorney and Mega Man, I will still hope they don't burn into a fiery mess visible from space. Sure, they deserve such a death, but they have stuff I care about that may disappear forever if they die. (In terms of seeing new content, anyway.) Anyway, I do have high hopes for Ace Attorney 6, but I am not exactly expecting that to help them out much. Hell, it doesn't even get a physical release outside of Japan, much to everyone's dismay.

One of the main problem is that the heads at the main branch are stubborn and prideful- if they feel they're in the right about something, they don't care about collateral damage.
You may have to hold onto that hope, Apollo- while thier recent major entries are few, and some being flops, a lot of the slack is picked up the the minor titles- the likes of Ace Attorney and Monster Hunter.

Know what would be dumb of them? If they tried to do a Battle Network version of Pokemon Go specifically to try and cash-grab from it. It sounds like a decent enough idea if it were pulled off right, but I've got a feeling they'd be more into making a quick buck than actually putting forth effort to make the game actually worthwhile.

You'll get your potential Mega Man cartoon tie-in game and like it!

No, they really don't. I don't ever want to see a company go out of business even if they're making odd decisions because there's always the chance they could correct them down the road. Let's put it like this. If Capcom did struggle too much, there's the potential of them being bought out by a company that would obliterate them. Already saw Konami do this to Hudson and even themselves when they were imploding last gen.
Legends 3 getting canned the way it did will always suck for you all that are more diehard fans of the series, but Mega Man sold like garbage for the most part outside of Mega Man 9 in the past ten years. When Inafune left, that was it for a while since he was one of the only people there trying to get those games made. But Capcom hasn't completely turned their back on the series. They just don't know what to do with it after Mega Man 10 didn't even perform all that well for them (don't know the numbers, but it wasn't as successful as MM9).
I think they'll figure it out, and I wish down the road, they'd actually release that prototype in some fashion like some companies have been doing with abandonware recently, but they are making decisions close to the vest right now to maximize their earnings potential. That's why you see them regressing into the tried and true (Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Monster Hunter, and cheaper stuff that sells okay like Phoenix Wright), but they can't halfheartedly go at it like they did SFV. That was a major backfire.

That's why I hate Capcom,I get that this is a bussiness(that still hurts me)But,I care for the characters and a lot of people does, seeing them mistreated, and seeing how capcom teases and make fun of the fans over and over and over, not to mention putting Megaman on every single kind of stupid merchandise they can think of yet never make a REAL game, that's just wrong very, very wrong and I don't want to talk about the upcoming "Aki Light Show" I understand that they want and need money,I just wish they learn to respect their own franchises and themselves as a VIDEOGAME company.
