The contest is now CLOSED! Thank you and good luck to all participants!
Yes, you heard right, July 19th, 2016 marks the five-year benchmark from that time the Legends 3 Project got unexpectedly ripped out from the collective community's grasp in what was arguably one of the gaming industry's most dubious scandals in recent history. Even now it completely boggles the minds of many that Capcom would pull what was, for all intents and purposes, a finished prototype that would have been the first genuinely interesting app on the 3DS eshop. I'm personally convinced that they were afraid it would be a hit if it were released and canned it to give themselves a more solid excuse not to make the full game, but in all honesty the jury's out on this one. And to put the mayonnaise on the Sloppy Chiz, instead of getting some support and empathy from other communities, we ended up getting called a bunch of whiny, entitled babies. It's no wonder morale has taken a considerable hit over the last five years.
But the only thing more depressing than facing the damage the cancellation and its aftermath have done head-on would be ignoring a benchmark like this altogether...and that's why we here at the Legends Station Forums bring you the Legends 3 Cancellation 5th Year Anniversary Poetry Contest! We know many of you had feelings, perhaps very strong feelings, when we heard the news that we were all going to have to go back to this whole radio-silence-and-incessant-waiting gig after spending roughly the gestation period of a human actually getting new information about the series. We've really been through a lot, and the train wreck that was the Red Ash Kickstarter campaign was like getting a roundhouse kick to the face on top of that.
All of that garbage we've had to deal with in the last five years sucks, but it's the hard times that can sometimes yield the best art. This right here is the perfect opportunity to reflect on everything we've been through and write some poetry that would have been the pride and joy of the Teomo City High School Literary Magazine...if it and the entire island of Klickelan hadn't been cancelled by Capcom. And hey, if any of the submissions wind up being legitimately impressive, all the better! The guidelines are as follows:
- You must be a registered MMLS member to enter
- Poems submitted must be relevant to Mega Man Legends 3's cancellation
- One entry per person
- Solo submissions only
- No more than one prize will be awarded to any entry
In order to enter, poems should be PM'd to me, Dashe , by 11:59pm EDT on July 18th of this year, starting this very minute. Adjustments or substitutions can be made until the deadline, but your entry will be the latest submission you PM to me by then. So if you submit something this week and notice a typo next week, you can resubmit to fix it. Or if you get a better idea than the first thing you came up with and submitted, you can replace your first poem submission with new ones--just remember, the last entry I get from you before the deadline timestamp is the one that goes up on the 19th! Late entries will not be considered for any prizes.
Judging will last one week, and the panel will include Buster Cannon , Mikéy , and myself. There will be three winners--one for the most well-written poem, one for the narmiest, corniest poem, and one for the best presentation, since we always end up having at least one really creative overachiever who ends up putting more into the presentation of the thing rather than the content itself. Nonetheless, while the actual writing is the most important thing here, adding art or music or something extra to enhance the experience if you're so inclined is perfectly fine.
All participants will receive a badge, and the winners get a new custom title as well. I also think it's safe to put in an offer to illustrate the best and the narmiest poems that pop up this time, since as a judge I'm not going to be running the risk of winning my own prize like the last time I offered art as a prize.
Get it? Got it? Good! Now get out there and channel your inner Shakespeare...or your inner tenth grade emo kid! MISSION START!

Poetic Post-Mortem - Winner, Best in Show

"Poetic Post-Mortem"
To a sea of adulation
at the turn of this century,
released to all, on the PlayStation,
the tale of the Great Legacy.
My story here, although long winded,
retells for you what sadly followed
what business magnates herein did,
and within forsakenness fans wallowed.
It had been some ten years since,
and there'd been many pained false starts.
Exclusive cell games made us wince,
and left us all with broken hearts.
But there was hope on the horizon,
trumpets burst forth loud, abruptly;
no more teasers by the dozen,
or Dark Lords of some Ruined Country.
"They've heard us!" cried the weary fandom,
battered like a fish filet.
Their protest songs and chants in tandem
gave their heroes another day.
All were brought before the table
to shape what the next act should be
to the extent that all were able,
and designed in full by committee.
Left and right the fandom toiled,
holding strong to synergism,
and hope and joy had all but foiled
skeptics' speak of skepticism...
But I'm sure we're all well familiar
of what is said on compromise;
but these details quite bewilder
on how the fandom lost their prize.
An announcement came on sudden, drastic,
the financiers had said, "kaput";
Fans that tripped the light fantastic
had rug pulled from under-foot.
Angry masses, loud in screams
begged to know, "What had gone wrong?"
Its champion behind the scenes
had made it to be his swan song,
Once he had been ushered out,
the project was on borrowed time,
and executives had set about
to scrimp and save every last dime.
Revival efforts sprang to life
many joined the battle cry
together in their time of strife
fans shouted, "Legends Never Die!"
So here we are, some five years later;
creator faith's slowly eroded,
DIY has filled the crater,
and the company's all but imploded.
What's learnt from this devastation?
A hard lesson on over-hype:
All's best kept in moderation,
until you've got a Prototype.
The industry's a harsh, harsh mistress,
with cancellations as a norm.
It's not at all that much suspicious
when something takes the void by storm.
It also demonstrates the strength
of teamwork and collaboration.
and if we work in hand at length,
we can give purpose to our Station.
My Hero
by Dragge
In a world covered by endless water…
“Megaman! Megaman! Megaman! Can you hear me?”
“Just barely, the transmission isn't too clear...”
The Beginning
It’s been 18 years since
I first played this game,
One that didn’t take much to convince
That my life wouldn’t be the same.
The Blue Bomber, my hero
In a new adventure where
His name could be Megaman or Hippo
And we got to see his hair.
The rush, the thrill
Something I never felt before
In a game that gave me chills
I knew it’d never be a bore.
The story, the graphics
A game I always played,
I knew would join classics
And there it would stay.
Interlude
An interlude, a prequel,
One that I never owned,
Still held up quite well
On its own.
Fun to play
And a little different
I found it and had to pay
Just for the end, so I wasn’t ignorant.
Second Coming
Christmas time and a second game,
That the music still reminds
Me of that time that became
The greatest mystery of all our minds.
It brought me friendship
And someone to enjoy with,
We beat up Glyde’s ship
And tried to solve the myth.
I beat them both
Before he did
But with his growth
He had rid.
I still held on
Despite betrayl
To my hero, never gone
To me he’d never fail.
My Betrayl
I got rid of them
Thought nothing of it
Got them back, at the time from
They were still low in price, just a bit.
The After Years
I grew older
And always went back,
I’d pick up that controller
Of the best game ever, waiting for a comeback.
Years rolled past, rumors followed
Three was on its way!!!
Those words were just hollow,
I just continued to pray.
I had lost all hope
It would never come,
I used fanfic and ideas to cope
In reality it was quite glum.
Third Times the Charm
It came from nowhere and I was surprised
When on Legends-Station
Sitting right there in front of my eyes,
Legends 3 finally in creation!
I researched and discovered,
The ideas put forth for the community to follow,
I felt ecstatic, my heart aflutter,
It was all so much for me to swallow.
The gameplay came and widened my eyes,
This game was going to be badass
As I turned my gaze to the skies,
To rescue my hero, it was time at last!
The prototype would guage
How the production would go,
We saw his armor, they set the stage,
Everything was ready, time for the show.
Hope… Despair…
They lied…
They stole…
I cried…
It was nearly whole…
Some Legends Shape Our Lives
The one that called the shots
Asked the people if they wanted
Another hero with similar plots
And one that’d be supported.
I was excited,
We were getting something again,
However it ignited
An unexpected hate train.
The red ash settled
And this hero stills seems set
On coming on his vessel
To help revive the hero who hasn’t returned yet.
To Be Continued…
There are days I lose hope
There are days I still dream
It doesn’t do good to mope,
There’s still the possibility it seems.
I look to the stars
And I realize that my hero is still there
Megaman Trigger, you have not been forgotten.

It was a sad story
That had no end
The next memory
Never to attend
I remember it well
The darkest day that came
Capcom didn't want to sell
The most expected game
Legends 3 was the hope's sequel
One that I've awaited
But opinions were unequal
And to cancellation it faded
The Demo that was to be sold
To gauge the gamers interest
But the prototype was withhold
When we had it so dearest.
Inafune has foretold
It would be a rough path
Unity dared to be so bold
But it ended in a bloodbath
My fingers, filled in despair
Eagered to touch that case
But my expectation lead nowhere
And I would never feel its embrace
Why did you run from me
The spotlight from my dark scene
And now I will never see
Those colors on the 3DS' screen
Legends 3 was our hope
Our day in the limelight
But it fell down the slope
And all I can do about it... is write.

I hear that five years have come to pass,
Since this game was torn from your collective grasp
The salt, the sadness, I can’t hope to relate,
Since I entered the fandom far, far too late.
Five years you say? I’ve not been here five months,
How can I write a poem so emotionless, so blunt.
I haven’t played the sequel yet, even
Since I’m not caught up, I’ve not stopped believing,
I dare not talk of hope to the dead, the disillusioned,
The light gone from their eyes, their dreams in ruins.
“I’m sad too!” I indignantly cry,
But my tears won’t fall, no matter how hard I try.
I wasn’t here for the rise, for the suspense, for the fall,
I throw my laptop to the floor, damn it all!
Now I WANT to suffer, I want to feel cheated,
I want to be utterly and completely defeated,
I can only imagine the pain, the sorrow,
my own sadness doesn’t compare, it’s only borrowed.
It’s not that I don’t want it, God no I want it bad,
When I think of Volnutt on the moon my heart breaks, I feel mad.
My sweet special boy deserves better that this,
I’ll build that rocket myself, dammit, then force him and Tron to kiss.
But dreams are meant to die, let’s lament what could never be,
There’s an empty space in our hearts, shaped like MegaMan Legends 3.

The doors slammed shut, a note pinned too the door, 'Sorry we aren't making Legends 3, we couldn't afford to make more.' The fandom reeled with shock, some cried, some raged and some abandoned all hope. It was like having the floor under you disappear, and you begin too fall. Sorrow and pain your only companions for this miserable drop. You cling too the slight hope that it's all a bad joke, then more things come too light and your depressed state goes for broke.
'We blame the fans, they should have been more involved!' 'You guys are a bunch of whiners it's just a game.' 'Megaman? Pft who cares that series is lame.' Each statement a knife straight too the heart, every painful beat you think of retorts. The shareholders and suits whose wicked puppeteering skills have the company dancing to their tunes. They are too blame for this whole wazoo, let us gather our strength and charge straight through. We shall show them how wrong they are about this cancellation and make them eat their sorry note in a humble pie to boot.
The fandom gathers together steely determination in their eyes, they surge forward with their rallying cries. Pain and anger spur them on along the vengeful route as soon it becomes apparent of no one being sure what to do. Campaigns of reminding Capcom our want of this game is strong and is still there. Lets attack every fandom because they don't care! Screw that it's about the numbers some chime. The mob fractures and goes it separate ways, we all want the same thing in good time. A long five years have passed since that terrible day, for some the pain is still strong, others it's moot they say. This fandom has been rattled quite good I'd say. But one thing is still true even too this day, even when others roll their eyes and others avert their gaze as you thump your chest in resolute salute, LEGENDS NEVER DIE, and never will.

The rocket took so long to build.
It was almost done
When the letter came one morning,
Saying it can't launch.
There was much anger and sadness,
It spread like wildfire
In a forest of many trees.
Everyone wondered,
Why didn't they want it to fly
To get Rock back down?
Was all our hard work for nothing?
The rocket still sits,
Waiting to be launched to the moon.
When will that happen?
No one knows that answer for now,
But we still believe
There is still a chance that it will.
