So I joined yesterday, had a very warm welcome and now I wanna do some rping. There seem to be a few campaigns already started, do I need to be invited to join them? I also have some ideas for my own campaign. One would be a re-imagining of the first game, the other would simply be based on Terra. If one of the senior members here could direct me, that would be very appreciated.

Wow. Eskimo disappeared exactly a year ago, it seems. As far as roleplaying around here is concerned, you'll have a hard time keeping one going if Original Characters not from the "iconic" side of Legends are allowed into the story. Most of us tend to prefer RPing as characters from the Legends story, because we find it more fun that way. If you want an example, you can browse through Eskimo's threads to see how he drew our interest and upkept a successful RP until the moment he disappeared. The basic gist is that you have to commit to being the "overseer" of the story, there needs to be an out of context thread, and you need to have people's interest and character assignments before it starts. Other rules and suggestions can be found in this subforum, specifically here. Also, we generally frown upon Sandbox RPs, because although they can be fun for awhile, watching them get bumped makes tons of eyes roll. You can see a clear example of that in the Memory Storage Unit known as MMLS City. I was a co-creator of it and I regretted it after a year.

Thanks. That is alot to take in lol. There are only so many characters in the Legends story, I'm curious as to how that works. I can totally oversee a story, but what is sandbox rp? I only know one way to rp without dice and I call that freelance...so if they are the same thing I am in trouble lol

We count townspeople as characters, too. Like, if you wanted to set it a few years later and play as Ira as a digger, that's awesome. Or make the Nino Island boys become pirates. Or play as any of the diggers in MoTB. The townspeople in these games are so consistent and specific to their characters that if you want to develop someone there are at least a hundred to pick from.
Sandbox RPs are ones with no structure. Pretty much where instead of having set environments established by one central authority and fairly linear options to choose from, it's a free-for-all and you just make things up. Bowen had that part down, actually, the worldbuilding and the potential to keep people on rails, but the overwhelming majority just didn't want any OCs. So I'd say "no OCs" is probably the most central element of getting an RP off the ground here.

Lets say I want to use my avatar as a character. Say he was one of the unknown townspeople on some island whom decided to be a digger. Would that work? I don't mean to be difficult I'm just trying to understand how the people here role play.
Freelance then, is not as...without rules as 'sandbox' is.
What if I wanna say my character is the founder of the Digger's Guild? I don't think they ever show an official leader. What if I wanted to re-imagine some aspects? Are OC's still OC's if I write them into the world and they have a place? What if I wanna add some piece of legend into the world, on the grounds that the Fountain of Youth is in it already? I'm sorry if this is annoying but I need to know exactlI've hosted many campaigns before. The rping I do is basically DND without numbers, or character sheets. But even that is managed and has a specific outline. y how to play this. Can I just take a townsperson, give them a name and some digger armor and thats ok?

Using your avatar and then slapping a townsperson identity onto it is still pretty much an OC. They went to all the trouble of making so many known townspeople with basic springboards to choose from that going with an allegedly-unknown townsperson...well, it's kind of eh. Maybe if we manage to get an OC-free RP finished we'd be a little more forgiving about them, but as it stands, people who come in looking to RP as an OC have tended to be way too attached to their OCs and it's turned a lot of us off to it, to the point where games with OCs in them tend to be completely non-viable. The closer your character is to a main, featured Legends character, the better. It's not like we're in danger of not having enough mains to go around or anything, even restricting it to just principal characters (which Eskimo did to what would have been success, if he hadn't abandoned the thing, or Bowen could have if he'd gone the no-OC route.)

Ok I totally understand wanting to complete a campaign. What about re-imagining say, MegaMan Trigger, into Blues and using some fan art as a pic? OR, should I just ask for pics of the diggers in Misadventures, and pick one of them? Cuz I definately want a digger character! OR! I could say that one of those guys....you know the ones on Kattlelox with the side quest for their hideout! You spy on them talking about seeing the Bonnes at one point....anyway could I say one of them put on armor and dyed his hair? Like, he changed his appearence to illustrate his change in lifestyle. From, whatever to a digger....or I could just play Dantz

Dashe , Mikéy , I'm officially petitioning a return for MMLS City. Just stay with my train of thought here. Clearly what it needed was twice as many plot devices and overlapping storylines. Also, OCs up the wazoo. We can never have too many of those. Make MMLS RPing great again! *Ahem* I don't see anything inherently dangerous with taking some liberties with a random NPC. Some of them have the personality of a wet brick after all. Maybe instead of commandeering their life à la Agent Smith, you should try to take what's currently there and expand upon it.

I would agent agent Smith them to change their appearence. Also if the OCs are ok I have legions of ideas. And Kyle, I would be happy to join that campaign you wish to bring back

And Kyle, I would be happy to join that campaign you wish to bring back To be completely honest with you, I was joking. MMLS City isn't exactly what I'd call an experience that I'm proud of. Still, points for attempting to help!

Well thank you. If I can get the OC thing straight I will start a campaign NOW. If its ok to play as one of those boys from Kattelox, the ones you help make a hideout for! I would just want to change his appearence, nothing more. Or, I'll just play Dantz. And is there a policy on adding onto the lore?

Huh. Never expected something like this to spring up. I honestly thought that everyone had given up on the whole RP scene for good ages ago. Either way, yeah, Gold & Glory is still on standby. Like I mentioned before, anyone we know exists up to MML3 are free to be played since you guys really don't seem to like the idea of OCs. However, that probably won't stop the NPCs like the announcers and other tournament staff from being such, seeing how scarce characters are in the series. The only things stopping G&G from launching right now are a lack of participants, and the fact that I shredded all my GM documents thinking all hope was lost for this subforum. Now, if you need me, I have storylines to rewrite.

I'm new. And I love rping and Mega Man Legends. I'd be down to play as Rusell or Dantz, but I would prefer make my own. I have plenty of ideas, if anyone is down we cna start a campaign now.

G&G would pretty much be ready to launch if you're on board with the idea, but I doubt just that would be enough to get it anywhere any time soon.

Gold and Glory huh? Yeah, you know technically we only need two people to start a campaign. I'm down if you're down, just need to know the details and whether or not OCs are allowed.
