So there is a phenomenon that I have noticed in quite a few games over the years. In the introductory and very early portions of games there will be gameplay concepts that will either only be used once, will fizzle out by halfway through the game, or will only be used once or twice more. These elements usually give the first level more flavor, and I think are often just present to make the game look cooler in someway. Usually it is dumped to focus on core gameplay.
As an example I will use the Ocean Tower from MML1. In that introductory level we see a refractor trap in a cutscene that has no equivalent later in the game. Cardon Forest plays with the concepts of traps by not having one and Rock being surprised. There is a trap in Lake Jyun, but it is nothing like Ocean Tower, it is a boss fight. This one is understandable because it would be hard to do in gameplay, but a cutscene of a similar trap would have been cool too.
There are also the spikes of Zakobon sticking out in the hallways as kind of a trap or surprise. This is never done again in MML or the series.
There is a trap when you go the opposite way Roll tells you to go. It is triggered by a pressure plate and traps Rock in a small room with force fields. Rock has to defeat an ambush before he can proceed. Nothing like this happens again.
So in general the opening of Legends makes it seem like ruins are going to be filled with traps. There are traps in later ruins but not like the examples in Ocean Tower.
Have you ever noticed gameplay elements that are dumped later in a game?
