Apparently Fuze is a company that, in response to the recent ending of a ban on gaming in China that's been going on since 2000, wants to make consoles and bring back console gaming to the region, instead of just focusing on crappy mobile games. Now that I've realized there was an English tab and read it, I can actually see where they'd want to back Red Ash from this. Bunch of people who wanted to make games since they were kids, but couldn't because the government banned them for fifteen years. I was on Twitter, and found a nice article about RED ASH + FUZE + the opportunities brought by the end of the gaming ban in China. It basically says what you said, and some more. It talks about FUZE's 9 million loan, too: Alright! I won't worry.

I've got to say that this kickstarter has been a crazy, crazy, duct-taped together affair, and it really reflects poorly on Inafune. Many people now think that Red Ash was always going to be funded no matter what and that he was just asking of money and such. I hope we get more insight on what was going on with the terrible preparation for this kickstarter. If FUZE/Loath hadn't stepped in we would all be pretty majorly bummed right now and it would all be on Inafune. Falling short in the KS still makes MML look bad. Hopefully Loath comes through and actually gets this game funded because it looks great and I can't wait to see some proper gameplay and 3d modeling of environments. I actually thought for a moment that FUZE was the brand of tea that was funding RedAsh, and that would have been cool. Now it's some evil shell company, and while that is vaguely worrying, it has a fun Legendsy aspect to that so I'm game. I was so scared we were going to lose this! I was like immediately a huge fan of Tyger and Call! Beck looks fine, but man Tyger and Call are just excellent redesigns. That Call model is gorgeous! Major Call crush here. But probably a bigger Tyger crush! So now that this thing isn't suspended over a pit of alligators can we start talking about some of the details we have of Red Ash? Also it's good to see you Raijin EDIT: I didn't see the Chinese gaming company thing before. Sounds really inspiring actually! I'm still going to refer to them as Loath though because that's just comedy gold!

Many people now think that Red Ash was always going to be funded no matter what and that he was just asking of money and such. I hope we get more insight on what was going on with the terrible preparation for this kickstarter. It looks like the chosen campaign management team was one of the factors that contributed to ruining it. Some people on the KS comments section were trying to research about this, and it looks like a company called SC Media handled the campaign. Apparently, their works look very unprofessional, and most KS campaigns they had managed failed terribly (someone even commented that, in fact, RED ASH seemed to be their most successful one, since it at least reached half of the funding . Here's the comment). I actually thought for a moment that FUZE was the brand of tea that was funding RedAsh, and that would have been cool. But if that were the case, it might have meant copyright issues over drink products all over again! EDIT: I didn't see the Chinese gaming company thing before. Sounds really inspiring actually! I'm still going to refer to them as Loath though because that's just comedy gold! I think FUZE are more like the Bonnes. They're the ones who took a money loan.

We might need to make a separate thread for assets and gameplay speculation and keep this one for the Kickstarter and development drama. I'm thinking a subsection might be necessary so we're not just shoving everything into one disorganized pile, because a lot of people are interested in it and interested in actually dissecting it and speculating on the plot, but I'm going to have to go behind the scenes and hash some stuff out regarding the setup for this. For now it's probably just better to make Red Ash threads in here, and I'll keep track of them and move them wherever we end up putting the Red Ash stuff. I don't know what MMLS is going to do about it at this point, but I can say for sure I definitely don't like the idea of everything Red Ash going into one disorganized thread now that it's allegedly* going to be actually made. *Not taking into consideration the possibility of Inafune getting hit by a train, Japan sinking into the sea, alien invasion, secret Fuze involvement with a drug cartel/human trafficking, Fuze getting forced to work off their loan to the Loaths before production's complete, or any other unforeseeable and borderline absurd catastrophe that would prevent Red Ash from seeing the light of day. Also, SC Media? Looks like I know who to glitterbomb next. MMLS probably could have provided that function for a fraction of the cost and triple the efficiency.

I wonder why they skipped the Wii U when it was the second on the pole. Though I suppose in 2 years the console might be obsolete. Developing for Wii U apparently uses some engine that's not compatible with what the team's using for Red Ash. It's possible, but it would need to be a port. I hope it happens regardless, because Wii U probably has the best audience they'd get. I posted this in the KS comments section, and figured I'd post it here too. It looks like the idea for a future Wii U port isn't entirely discarded, but is a subject for later and won't be addressed in this KS campaign. When someone asked about it on Twitter, they said: Another person asked about it, and their answer was: And as for "Why don't they use Unreal Engine 3 instead?" it seems to be because UE3's life might end soon and Epic Games might drop support for it before RED ASH is released. I still think Comcept might be able to pull off a Wii U port at some point, but not now. Edit: Ugh. the tweets display is getting messed up, so I decided to copy-paste instead.

I think, honestly, we should allocate our funds to the anime (with the exception, possibly, of Loken's manhua prize sum, since that'd be kind of seedy...unless he took that up with the winner.) It might actually make the base amount, whereas now that the game KS is funded, it's been losing money. I'm going to swap my pledge too. Too bad I don't have enough for the Tyger figure. XD

I wonder if this has any chance of getting a physical release down the road. I certainly hope so, as I want it to sit next to MML and Mighty No9, and I think I missed the boat on getting a physical copy. Anyway, I know it's just a mockup, but is anyone getting a Lost Planet vibe from the gameplay concept? At least from a combat perspective. Something tells me that's what it'll control like in dungeons. Which I'd be all for, given how fun Lost Planet is. Especially if we got a grappling hook, though that'd be too much on the nose.

Wanted to share some of this stuff from Inafune's July 8 4gamer interview with you guys (sorry if it's kind of old news). Short version: -Inafune doesn't see this as a replacement for DASH3. He still wants to help make D3, if he can sort his hash with Capcom. He hopes that wowing everyone and showing a market for this kind of game will help bring this anime-action-RPG genre to a head and to allow Japanese gamers and the world to appreciate Japanese styled games again. -The story for KalKanon Incident is broadly inspired by Howl's Moving Castle (so maybe that makes the witch Miss Einberg "Howl"). -They teased a little bit of KalKanon Incident's possible resolutions by suggesting some possibilities for disabling the mobile city, i.e. destroy the main drive unit or take out a knee joint with explosives so that it can't walk anymore, both of which would be risky for the inhabitants of KalKanon. It implies the player might have some choice impacting how the conflict will be resolved. -Inafune's goal in making third person action RPGs is always to create a game to top The Legend of Zelda: Triforce of the Gods/A Link to the Past, which he feels is still the golden standard of the action-RPG blend. -Comcept wanted a (low-end AAA game tier) dream budget of 2 billion yen for "the main game"/New Order Conspiracy to make it a freely explorable "open world" style game. 2 billion yen is a little over 16 million dollars (those with long memories may remember Inafune wanted $15 million to make DASH 3 in 2007 to run on the Lost Planet engine). They talk a little about how "open world" is a bit of a vague term, because there would still be story elements and places you can't advance to until you have certain things or perform certain actions first, but regard that there can be a kind of freedom in that by offering multiple ways to explore or access new areas or develop the story, so that player choice affects the outcomes. -In the interview Inafune says that his ultimate goal with the Kickstarter and KalKanon was always to engender additional support to get the kind of funding he needs to make his dream of a AAA level RED ASH game come true, whether it's by reinvesting the profits of KalKanon and Mighty No. 9, gathering investors and publisher partnerships, licensing and multimedia deals, or whatever he has to do so long as he retains the IP and creative control. (That's good, because it doesn't seem like New Order Conspiracy is covered at all by what FUZE is currently funding, and they already promised a digital copy of it to backers... although it doesn't seem like the Kickstarter will succeed at this point so that concern might be moot.) I think the version of New Order they talk about in the Kickstarter (12+ hour game) might be based on a smaller budget or more narrow overall scope than the dream game he is initially talking about wanting to make in the interview. If I had the cash, I'd love to pony up to become a KalKanon villager...

Also, SC Media? Looks like I know who to glitterbomb next. MMLS probably could have provided that function for a fraction of the cost and triple the efficiency. I still think they should have waited until the revised stretch goals were finished before announcing that the project had gotten an investor, and should have explained on the same update (or somewhere easy for everyone to notice) about why Wii U wasn't chosen despite coming second place in the poll. Much of the information was scattered among updates, comments buried somewhere in the KS comments section, Twitter and interviews. Only people willing to make an effort to really understand what was going on would have tried to gather all the details (and considering that most people on the Internet are only interested in finding flaws to bash the project...). From the lack of clarity and wrong word usage in the KS page and updates (like calling the second game "full game"), it almost seems like it was a non-native English speaker writing the texts. I'm a non-native myself and I'm sure I could have been able to explain things much better than they did. MMLS could have done an excellent job for sure. I'd say at least five times the efficiency. Easier to understand KS main page, clearer updates, more questions addressed on the FAQ with a note about them on the updates (saying something like, "We also updated the fac to address that," with a link to the FAQ entry), among other things. I'm going to swap my pledge too. Too bad I don't have enough for the Tyger figure. XD I'm having a hard enough time pledging $49 and watching the US dollar conversion rate rise every day. It's currently very high, and right now, $49 means $167.81 in my currency. Edit: which reminds me. I became a backer during that (one day) limited time "both games for $49" deal. I think they should have announced that deal at least one day in advance, too. Wanted to share some of this stuff from Inafune's July 8 4gamer interview with you guys (sorry if it's kind of old news). Wait, 20?! As in #20 from the Reploid Research Lavatory? Thank you for summarizing this interview! I'm not sure whether many non-Japanese people know about its contents (Google didn't find anything about it in English for me). I don't know if anyone took the time to translate and spread the word about it (someone made a rough translation in the KS comments section, but I don't know if it was posted anywhere else). It's too bad if the points from this interview really haven't reached most people, because this interview is quite elucidating. (see what I mean about scouring all over the Internet to gather all the essential details? To get everything that there is to get, one would need to know Japanese, too. ) Another edit: if these details from the interview had been posted on the KS project page or one of the early updates, it might have made a significant difference, because it tells a lot about what the project aims to accomplish. From the KS project description alone, many people were left wondering what was that they were supposed to kickstart.

I have to say, I'm really happy this got funded by a company, I know it's not Legends 3 but for me the characters aren't what made me love the legends series, the characters themselves were great I do like them. But my favorite thing about Legends was the world its lore and the prospect of exploring ancient ruins. You really don't see many adventure games nowadays like we had in the 90s most are just bland boring lack soul or any form of mystery or are giant empty worlds. I truly hope that Red Ash succeeds. (Also it being inspired by Howl's moving castle is pretty awesome. I loved that movie.)
I played the alpha prototype myself and it actually ran just fine on my PC there weren't really any physic errors like staying in the jump animation while on the ground or anything like that. I can only assume it might be graphics hardware affecting that a bit and the fact that it's alpha. For a lot of engines the graphics hardware does the physics processing so while other hardware can work fine occasionally you can get cards that derp or fail to process certain things properly. Like one example was someone had an error with a game I think it was Dark Souls and while it worked fine on their friend's PC it was very buggy on their own with odd physics glitches. Though having either an ATI or Nvidia card would prevent most of that unless it was slightly defective or something. Heck even on my PC Dark Souls had exaggerated physics to the point of barrel parts breaking and flying 100 feet into the air where as they acted normal on my cousin's PC. Granted Dark Souls is a completely different engine from unity or unreal if I'm correct.
Btw did anyone else find Red Ash Beck and talk to him to play as him in the prototype?

Btw did anyone else find Red Ash Beck and talk to him to play as him in the prototype? Yep! I wish we could have played with Red Ash Call, too, but seeing how quickly it was whipped up, it probably wasn't even rigged yet.

It seems they have no plans to make Call playable in the actual game, either (or at least not in the KalKanon Incident). When someone asked if she would be playable, this was their answer (here go more tweets ):

Hm. I honestly don't know how to feel about this game. I mean, it looks nice, I'm glad it's getting Kickstarted and funded, but... I'm just not that thrilled, and I honestly don't know if I'll ever play it if it comes out.
I've pretty much moved out of the "Legends" phase of my life. I can always play Legends 2 on my PSP; my eboot of it works fine, even with the occasional bugs, so my Legends fix is satiated for now. I'd rather wait for the new Ratchet & Clank game on PS4, or the next Pokemon game, or play a round of Smash, or finish up this Digimon Adventure RPG on my PSP than to get my hopes up about a new Legendsesque game. Plus I have my troubles at home to worry about more than some video game coming out.
I'm sorry, I don't mean to bring the thread down, it's just... okay, new Legends-like. Cool. That's how I feel about it.

All right, I finally have time to post about all these developments. Developing for Wii U apparently uses some engine that's not compatible with what the team's using for Red Ash. It's possible, but it would need to be a port. I hope it happens regardless, because Wii U probably has the best audience they'd get. I want to see the Red Ash/MML3 Making Of story as a musical. Throw in a "screw you heteronormativity" subplot and it's pure Tony Bait. Yes, it looks like they are developing for Unreal Engine 4 which has no native compatibility for the Wii U. Interestingly the bloodstained guy is saying he is porting the engine to the Wii U and offering any developer his port. Lots of people seem to be asking about this possibility, but it is way too early to be exploring this possibility. Now we just have to hope it doesn't end up getting funded with seedy drug money or anything like that! Imagine that, Red Ash getting canceled because Fuze's funds were actually tied some Chinese meth cartel. I'd totally buy a book about that. Sorry to break it to you Dashe; from FUZE's own website: "13 years ago video Game Arcade are [sic] closed for being regarded as 'Mental Opium.'" It's been a drug cartel all along, we've just been too much of a junkie all along to see it. It's not really Legends to me, and I feel kinda iffy encouraging it. The concept of Mega Man that MN9 reclaims is a more general thing that's suitable for reinvention, but MML has always been about its specific characters and story that an ersatz version isn't going to replace in my heart. At the end of the day, Volnutt's still stuck on the moon. But I'm still hungry for the aesthetic. I may cringe a bit with how closely it adheres in places, but I want to give it a chance. Now to see if it even has a chance. I think even Inafune would agree that this is not Legends, from what I read even after this game is made he still would love to work on Legends 3. I am excited for a game with the same feel and light-heartedness though; I personally have not played any other series that captures this feel. Yes I will miss the cast, and Trigger is still on that moon, but this is probably the best we are going to get. I personally think that this game is probably going to stick to the legends feel than a sans-Inafune Legends 3 would. I really hated the way that Capcom started to take the game after his departure, from trying to fore an EXE style Megaman down our throats to that weasel mascot character. I really don't know how much Inafune was involved with the overall world style which is one reason why I am so excited to see so many senior members from the original team coming together. Thanks for the translation 20, it was an interesting read and I must agree, I wish this was shared on the kickstarter page from the outset. It's pretty apparent this kickstarter is going to fail, making the success of the game bitter-sweet. I would have loved a playable Tygre; we'll have to see what the future holds. Unfortunately for Inafune, I'm afraid this whole kickstarter debacle has burned through alot of his good will. I can understand part of the reason for people being unhappy with the way this was handled, but people claiming fraud or intention deception seems quite exaggerated. I mean, if he was just trying to take everyone's money and run, he sure did a poor and sloppy job of it, I find a sloppy kickstarter handled by a sub-par PR company more believable.
