Take plenty of nullberries and potions/mega potions- Gore Magala will test you.
I just compmleted a full set of rathalos armor- it's pretty good, so far. Right now, I'm looking to upgrade my hunter's rank and get materials to upgrade my charge blade.
*update* Just took down a pretty nasty beastie (can't say it since it would be something of a spoiler), and I'm looking to raise my hunter rank. I want to try for the DLC event quests to get the Zelda armor and weapons. Just made HR2, and it looks to be a ways before I get high enough rank to try for them. THough I think those are arena quests..

I haven't worked my way up to any of the big name hunts yet. Just hunting some raptors and carrying out tasks so I can upgrade my sub par armor. Did I mention this is my first MH games ever? I thought God Eater was ridiculous with its crazy monster hunting, but this game actually has different areas, and a stamina bar that gradually decreases, and I need to keep my weapon sharp or it'll stop being effective, and cats are mugging me. WHAT?

Feels like I'm at a plateau- while I'm at HR 3, the difference between hall quests and standard ones are more apparent sooner, than later. I'm trying to upgrade weapons, but it always boil down to ingredients that are few, but rare. I do plan to make a charge blade out of gore magala parts, just need a feeler and a tail- I can handle the standard quest GM, but I'll have to try it on a GH quest to see if I can get it- a bit harder, yes, but the payoff is usually worth it, and if I can get other folks to join in, so much the better. *UPDATE* I'm a few G. feelers shy of making a charge blade, but after my last hunt with two frenzied monsters, I decided to get make a giant sword- was going to use my magala parts, but I made one made of numerous minerals that had greater attack strength. I don't use great swords often, but I think after a while, it could be useful for getting through a few quests so I can access better materials- some carbalite ore, at the least.
