Oh.ho... a new RP threat by Bowen? Count me in!... as soon as I finish reading everything and make the proper settings...
Anyway, the classic tournament setting to decide the next... "King of Diggers"? ... I'm sorry is this an inside joke or am I picturing One Piece misfits mixed in? Just asking.
I just read most of the things without paying much attention (I will do that later, I swear) so I have to ask... can one of us RP as one or both the announcers? Because I would really love to do something like that and when I read theri names (especially Diego's) I was all "Whoa. I wonder how he would sound liek with a name like that..." And yes, I am already picturing it.

Welcome back, Tuga. Out of everyone, I trusted that you would still believe in me. Now where's Chao?
Anyhow, you aren't too far off in that there will be misfits within the roster, be they one of my cannon-fodder filler contestants, or another participant's character.
Diego and Katie are more or less NPCs that exist solely to comment on a contestant's actions, so I'm making them free for anyone to control for this purpose. But as a general rule of thumb for these characters, Diego is rather unprofessional, prone to diverging from the topic and asking inane questions, while Katie is more composed and focus, but struggles to tolerate her co-worker's remarkable ignorance. Hopefully we can keep their behavior reasonably constant should control over them fluctuate between players.

I'm interested in playing! I'm the blast at my friend's DnD groups. Let me know if I need any more information, but I've got my bio ready. Sakura Ono: Age 16, 5'3, with long, flowing pink pigtails, fox ears, and sparkling, deep violet intense eyes that give her an aura of intense mystery. She is a sky pirate from Calbania Island who doesn't like to get close to people because of a tragic event in her past that resulted in the death of her parents and her becoming a pirate. In battle she uses a special gun called the Reaverbot Roaster that was a gift from her father for her thirteenth birthday. She has black belts in karate and judo and her aim is so good that she has been known to never miss a target. Unknown to most, she also had the most beautiful singing voice in Calbania before the incident...maybe she would share it if she met the right person though... Here's a picture that I've had one of my friends draw, for visual context. i.imgur.com/E7memtR.jpg

I'll save my brutally honest criticism to say that you're welcome to join at any time the story actually gets going, and that you may want to post any character data to the appropriate thread in the future. Aside from that, feel free to ask any questions you might have, and I'll gladly clarify for you.

You shouldn't have saved your brutally honest criticism, Bowen. The lovely and way-too-talented-for-her-own-good Ms. Ono was deliberately crafted by me to test whether you understand what kinds of characters belong in the Mega Man Legends world and what kinds don't. I drew the picture too. It was mind-numbingly painful to do. Yui only posted it on my behalf because if I'd posted it myself, you'd have hopefully realized something was up. So if you're peeved at getting Secret Shopper'd, don't shoot the messenger. I definitely like that you're trying to make amends. However, if you want this RP to be any good, you're going to have to really be able to spot things like Mary Sues and things that just don't fly in Legends canon. I designed Sakura to be both at the same time. She's even part furry! When has any furry ever appeared in a Mega Man Legends game ever? Of course, you do seem outwardly iffy on her, so I'll have to concede partial credit. There is a tactful way to reject an obviously bad character, thankfully, and there are a lot of instances like this one where it would be prudent to do so. You may even wind up with players who will try and see where your boundaries are with canon breaks. I'd have been be more like, "That's all good and well, but you're gonna need to work on her a little more for her to work in this setting. Get rid of the cat ears for sure, and some weaknesses would probably be a good idea, too. She just seems too good at everything." I honestly didn't expect her to make the cut. At all. Looking at Crossroads, I was still questioning how much you'd really learned about what kinds of characters and settings work in the Legends universe and what kinds don't in the past year, and I'm genuinely baffled she made the cut. At least the setting on this one seems more relevant. Maybe a bit large for a site where the user pool would probably net you five players tops, but still relevant to Mega Man Legends. So yeah, definitely strive for quality over quantity. If someone really wants to play, they'll make the necessary character adjustments to fit. Now I don't know if Yui still plans to play, but it wouldn't be as Sakura Ono. Incidentally though, I did tell Yui I would attempt to play with Ono-chan myself if you actually accepted it so they wouldn't have to use her...since you did accept something so intentionally awful and all, and I do like to keep my word when I'm arranging cruel and unusual tests of GM savvy. Your call on that one.

Damn it. I mean, I did have problems with this Ono character. A lot of problems. But I hadn't expected this turn of events. Yes, I've figured more about characters and the restrictions they should have as per the canon setting. Don't think that I haven't now, because I've learned quite a bit from the absolute shitstorm that I idiotically brewed up. But I don't plan to give up just yet, though. Yes, I probably should've called out Ono, but I restrained myself from doing so, thinking it would hurt my already shitty reputation.
But now I strictly forbid the use of this iteration of Ono for this story, as such a character has absolutely no place here. I care not if she is your creation, either she gets hit unbelievably hard with the nerf stick, or I have the full force of Densetsu's military obliterate her the second she arrives.

Threatening an alleged Mary Sue with death via your alleged god-powers? I can't see that statement backfiring at all. Sometimes you just have to roll with the punches and adapt, Bowen. If not, then you're being a lousy GM, I'm afraid.

It's all good, Kyle. Do I look like the kind of person who'd enjoy playing as a deliberately bad character?

Fuck it, I can never get a break, can I? I be nice and let the Mary Sue in, and I get called out for being too soft. I decide to grow a fucking spine for once, and I get called out for being too harsh. This is some seriously fucked up bullshit right here.

Come on, guys, calm down! No need to make a scene, either of you. It's just a game.
The point I think Kyle is trying to make, tactless as his approach may have been, is that there is a difference between threatening a character if it tries to play, and telling the applicant, "You should really pick a different character," or "I'll permit it only if you make the following changes: *insert changelist here*" The thing is, there is a difference between being friendly and being a doormat, and there is also a difference between having standards and being a jerk. That was one of the reasons I felt it necessary to test you on this in the first place. Instead of having standards and being friendly, which are not mutually exclusive things, you seem to be just fluctuating between being a doormat and being a jerk, neither one of which will earn you that respect you want so much. Does that make sense? The gratuitous swearing is probably also not a great way to kick off your campaign, either.
You don't have to worry about anyone actually and deliberately trying to muck up the RP. If you tell people what to do nicely, since you're the GM, they'll probably do it. If someone gives you trouble, that's why the forum staff's here. We have a rule for that. Send one of us a message (since we're probably not playing or paying attention to the turn of events) and we'll catch up and straighten things out, so long as you keep a cool head when trying to deal with it yourself.

Yeah, you're right. I need to get my act together. If I want this to work out, I have to keep my head on straight. That, or give up any further attempts at mission impossible here and now.

I'm definitely rooting for it to work, despite what it may look like from your side of the table. If you want any pointers on how to win friends and influence people at any point, just hit me up for that because learning it from a person is a lot easier than learning it through a load of blunt trial and error like I did. Back to the actual OOC discussion, though...since you're allowing for canon characters, where in the timeline does this take place? Is Mega Man himself on Elysium, still? Do Legends 3 characters count as canon?

Timeline would be shoved somewhere in 3, not too long after the Bonnes and Caskets enlist the help of the Bright Bats. So any of them are up for grabs here. Volnutt and company will have to just watch from the Master's all-seeing monitor. So yeah, anyone still on Terra is available.

Is it okay if I use characters from the ZX canon? I wanna be Prometheus...
...you're going to have to really be able to spot things like Mary Sues and things that just don't fly... What do you mean by "Mary Sue"...?
