Boo. Pokebank. I guess that's the obstacle stopping me from using my old pokemons.

...Why?
Seriously, it's FIVE DOLLARS. For 365 days of use. And the cards are practically everywhere now! I'm pretty sure it's easy as pie to go to Gamestop, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Target, Walgreens, a Dollar General/Family Dollar, etc. and buy a $10 Nintendo eShop card every year and reload it. You don't even have to keep the money in the eShop balance if you can't, just buy one card every 365 days.

In my case, it's a problem too. There's a strange currency conversion problem here in the Brazilian eShop. The prices are displayed in Reals (Brazilian currency) but are actually charged in US Dollars, and the eShop only accepts payments via international credit cards. The international credit cards are charged in US Dollars, but we pay the credit card companies in Brazilian Reals! Confusing, huh? In other words, what happens is: - The prices are in Dollars, but the eShop displays them in Reals.
- But the bank only accept international payments in the store's original currency, so it converts the value back into Dollars.
- And when we need to pay the credit card company (the bank in this case), the value is converted to Reals again.
With all these conversions happening back and forth, the values we pay might become very different from what they were supposed to be, depending on the conversion rates at the time each of those conversions happens. It looks like the banks received a lot of complaints about value differences, so by the end of 2013, most of them stopped accepting payments from foreign stores where the prices are displayed in one currency and charged in another. So, they'd only accept payments to the eShop if the prices were displayed in the original currency (US Dollars). But Nintendo refuses to change how the prices are displayed (from what I've read, it seems Sony and Microsoft already fixed that in their stores, and Nintendo is the only one that still didn't). We have no prepaid cards, either. The only prepaid cards around are for the US eShop, which don't work here. The credit card companies that didn't adhere to the new rules are very few, so the international credit cards that still work in the Brazilian eShop are few and far between. Some people were able to take advantage of the fact that many games were cheaper in the US and CA eShops and changed their 3DS's region when that was still possible, and they're able to pay using the US prepaid cards in the US eShop, or the international credit cards in the Canadian eShop (since the values are both displayed and charged in the same currency, Canadian Dollars). But since the 3DS's region can't be changed anymore after creating the Nintendo Network ID, many of us are stuck in the Brazilian eShop, unable to buy anything. I just happen to have some funds from a long time ago before all this confusion happened, just enough to pay for Pokebank... Just for this year, though. I intend to get it and transfer everything I can, like some Dream Ball pokemon and maybe something from Emerald for the time travel award. If the subscription for this year ends and the problem isn't fixed by then, I don't know what'll happen. I need to be careful to not get any pokemon stuck in there.

I understand where you're coming from, Aiyumi. I have a friend in the IRC channel I usually hang out in who's also Brazilian, and for the longest time he couldn't acquire a copy of Pokemon OR/AS digitally because of the conversion differences. That's a problem Nintendo deserves to fix for you, as they're shutting out valuable customers because of their decision not to change the currency in the eShop for Brazil and other countries facing a similar problem. Don't get me wrong; you're right on every count to be concerned.
But Mikey, IIRC, as well as myself, we're American, and we don't have that excuse. There are plenty of opportunities to acquire eShop balance in the US, and plenty of ways to acquire the money required to keep that balance. I just find it hard to believe someone in America would find that an obstacle to saving their precious starter from Hoenn, or that one particular Shiny they caught in the Sevii Islands, or whatever the case may be. To me, it reeks of apathy and if there's one thing I can't stand, it's being apathetic and standing by when you could easily solve a problem you might be having. (I did that way too much in my own life with real, significant problems, and I regretted every moment of it.)

What bothers me is having to charge balance just for that. I haven't purchased a single thing from the eShop as of yet, so not only do I not have experience in doing so, but the yearly charge also doesn't sit right with me. Why exactly can't it be permanent access?
It's not so much laziness as it is principle, but I feel like I could easily rebuild competitive battling mons from scratch if I really wanted to. Or I could be lazy (or was apathetic the word you used?) and charge 5 dollars to transfer all of the mons I already had trained to the modern generations and they'd never be able to return. Never. Be. Able. To. Return. Which is something else that doesn't sit right with me as of yet.
If you want a concrete excuse, I have Pokemon Battle Revolution data (as bad of a game as that is, it's still a little fun in moderation) out the wazoo that relies on the overwhelming Pokemon Data that my Platinum cartridge holds. If all of those pokemon disappear, then I won't be able to edit movesets or itemsets anymore.
In addition, my Platinum cartridge still has numerous items that I coaxed out with an Action Replay. My pokemon would lose access to those, since items can't be transferred from the transition from Platinum to White. I even shared a few items with MMLSers that requested a certain TM or item due to main-story limitations. I don't have any modern "cheating" devices, and my purchases for modern hand-held and console games have diminished quite a bit for personal reasons.
So yes. There's an obstacle, but there's more than just one. Consideration is also a biggie. Perhaps if I ever decide there's something from Gamestop in addition to eShop currency that I need, I'd pick it up as a side-purchase so that I can weigh the consequences versus rewards a bit more concretely, but for now, I'm glad I don't have to.

I also don't like that the pokemon can only be sent forwards without a way back. I'm only willing to send the ones I have more than one of (like some of my Dream Ball pokemon, or normal dex fillers that I don't have in the new games), or the ones I catch/breed specifically to send forward (like Unown and Apricorn Ball pokemon). That's also why I refuse to restart my BW games, because there's no more Dream World and no other ways to get Dream Ball pokemon (outside of the limited selection from Dream Radar), no more Dream Pals and no more online people to populate Join Avenue, etc. I don't have any "good" team in the past games to send over. It was too hard to get pokemon with desired natures/stats back then. Breeding and training is so much easier now. Speaking of which... The Meadow itself was made, it seems, by some Japanese players and posted on the Pokemon Subreddit on Reddit. What does one need to do to get access to that?

You mean access the subreddit? Just go to reddit.com/r/Pokemon.
That easy.

I mean the secret bases. Did they make the QR codes available publicly, or do we need to do anything special to get the codes?

Yes, they made them public. Y'know, I'm having a really bad day (honestly, that is an understatement by now), and I'm not in one of the best moods emotionally now so this post might be a bit brusque and rude--I apologize--but I'm just gonna post the ones I use. It may take a few tries to scan them, but those're the ones I'm talking about. If you want more Blissey bases to scan, check this thread on /r/Pokemon. And finally, if you just want bases to scan to battle, /r/SuperSecretBases has regularly posted QR codes to scan. You can also check a player's Global Link info page for their QR code.

Hmm, interesting! And there are so many of them in all those threads . Very useful, thank you! I'll save the images for the near future.
On another note, today I've just caught Gatts... I mean, Latias . Soft-resetting for a decent nature was a pain, with the Team Aqua battle and the long unskippable automatic events and no way to save in between.

I completely forgot about OR thanks to Smash 3D being such a distraction. Long unskippable automatic events, eh? Guess I'll get back to playing again and find out.

As for overwriting, if you obtain Secret Bases by scanning the QR Codes, it won't overwrite the bases you scan when you receive them by Streetpass or passing players on the PSS in-game. (Only) now, I get it . Bases added to your favorites don't get overwritten. You do this by going to the person's base (not yours) and checking the PC (it took me a long time to figure this out . I had thought that all base related things were handled from my base's PC ). Bases you get via QR codes are favorited by default. Long unskippable automatic events, eh? Guess I'll get back to playing again and find out. The events by the end of the main story and the ones in the Delta Episode are even worse. Luckily, you can respawn the legendaries by defeating the Elite Four (except Rayquaza which you need to catch to progress the story, and your game version's Lati@s).

I'm still way far back. I haven't even hit Lavaridge yet. It probably doesn't help that I left the game at my dad's house a week and a half ago, but the bad part is that I'm not sweating it too much. xD
Ah well. I've finished every game from every generation at least once, so I know for sure that I'll eventually get done with Omega Ruby.

Don't get me wrong; you're right on every count to be concerned. Argh... Earlier today, Nintendo officially announced that they'll end operations in Brazil sometime this month. They'll stop distributing their products (games and consoles and everything) to the Brazilian market. They say that it's because of the high import taxes, among other problems. Some related news stories: www.ign.com/articles/2015/01/09/nintendo-officially-leaves-brazilmynintendonews.com/2015/01/09/nintendo-officially-leaves-the-brazilian-gaming-market/It's uh... Sad... Frustrating... I don't know what to say. Who knows what'll become of the (already problematic) eShop here... All I can do is spend my remaining eShop funds to get Pokemon Bank, and hope that it keeps working until the end of this year, at least.

When you guys're able to catch up to where I am, stop by my finalized Secret Base Gym in Granite Cave. I reached 500 Flags and was able to finally put in the finishing touches. Here's a link to the details of the base. All I ask is you don't use a Legendary, Items, or O-Powers (other than Prize Money Boost and EXP. Gain Boost) when you fight me. There's a bed in the base in case you need to recover, too.
