Well, to be honest, I thought about not making this and reviving the old thread, but it had already gone to page 2 and to be quite honest, I didn't want to gravedig a months-old thread. So, here we are again at another Pokemon discussion thread, this one for the new games Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Now that they're out, I figure we can discuss things in here, as well as discuss Pokemon X/Y battles and stuff too, as well as the Pokemon Bank and whatever else. Just so you know, I've bought the downloadable version of Alpha Sapphire and am currently at Verdanturf Town. I chose Mudkip as my starter and got it speed-leveled with a port back to X to level it up (thank GOD for my Enigma/Roseli berry stash in X, those Ultra Rare Sodas helped). He's at Lv. 44 with Scald, Hydro Pump, Ice Beam and Bulldoze now. I also have my Mudkip from HG/SS ported over, at Lv. 50, with Muddy Water, Hydro Cannon, Ice Beam and Bulldoze, but he will be used much later in the actual game. In the meantime, the two of them are available to fight right now! I have a preliminary version of my Super Secret Base in Alpha Sapphire available to download and find. Once you get to Route 112, you'll run into Aarune, who'll teach you about Super Secret Bases and give you Secret Power's TM. After you get settled into your first base, go to your Secret Base PC and choose "Manage QR Code patterns", then choose Find a Secret Base to scan the QR Code above. Once it's scanned, you'll find my base in the Rusturf Tunnel, Verdanturf Town entrance. Feel free to take my flag, and battle my Swamperts if you're up to a challenge! Feel free to post your own QR Codes in this thread too, so we can all find each other's Bases.

Everything you just said about Pokemon X and Y completely flew over my head. I'll probably be getting the game as a Christmas Present this year; Ruby most likely, since a ton of people seem to have defaulted to Sapphire. I'll probably be using regular Pokemon from the region to play through the game as opposed to steamrolling, because I appreciate the storyline of a game with Pokemon raised personally by the story's trainer. Sort of a Nuzlocke view on things but without the rules. This post can be considered a placeholder, I guess. With any luck, this thread will pick up as strongly as the Heartgold / Soulsilver thread did.

This is the thread I was waiting for! I was wondering when I'd be able to talk about Pokemon in these forums. Sadly, the new games aren't out here in Brazil yet. I read that physical copies will be out only on the beginning of December . The digital versions are available on the eShop, but there's a strange problem with Nintendo and the banks here (something to do with currency conversion, with values showing in the wrong currency, then getting converted and reconverted multiple times...). Very few credit cards work on the Brazilian eShop, and mine isn't one of them. Well, I'd prefer a physical version anyway. But when it comes out, I'll get Sapphire. I'm seriously thinking on naming my character Yuna. Then when I catch my Latias (the dragon I'll be flying on), I'll nickname it Gatts! (let's ignore that it's female XD) I'm even having ideas for a weird Pokemon/Legends crossover fan fic already!

Mikey, you're telling me you had no idea that Enigma Berries were available? They were introduced in the Darkrai event in Japan and have been sporadically seen and traded with 'Mon on the GTS; I got mine with a level 100 pentaperfect-IV shiny Ditto for breeding. If you grow plenty of them and the new Roseli Berry, which reduces damage from supereffective Fairy-type attacks when held, you can take them to the Berry Shoppe in Lumiose City and have them blended into Ultra Rare Sodas that increase your Pokemon's level by 5 levels. You can only blend them once per day, though, so there's a limit to how grossly overpowered this is. By now, I have about thirty of the Enigma Berries left, and about fifty-eight Roseli Berries, so I can boost my 'Mon's levels for at least thirty days in a row if I dare to.

I always EV train everything first before doing that. With horde battles + Power items, it's quick and easy (it's even quicker if you have access to Pokerus).

I don't really care about EVs or IVs, guys. I'm not in it to play competitively, where EVs matter at all. Hell, just ask Mikey, I never once fought anyone on the forum in HG/SS or in Gen V. I don't like competitive battling or EV training. It's just not why I buy the games.

Aah, sorry if that was rude. My ex basically beat competitive Pokemon into me. Other than that, x/y is totally the generation that might bring me back to playing. It looks nice.

No, it's alright, I should apologize. I didn't mean to be gruff about it, to be fair. I just never saw any point in competitive play when I'm more interested in the story, the minigames, and the music.
Oh god, the music. I'm so glad it sounds so amazing. @_@

... Well Fatman, you're talking to someone who Action Replay'd any and all items that have a numerical value associated with them in a generation IV Sinnoh game for the sake of Competitive Play, so. Outside of Generation IV, I'd definitely have to look up a new item; because it'd look plain foreign to me otherwise. But wouldn't you miss out on ev's? 5 levels is a lot to lose. Depends highly on what levels the Pokemon are at. Generally, usage of one or two of the things won't hurt EV gain. Although it is true that if a Pokemon is raised up from tot levels to level 100 on the things, they would end up being surprisingly weaker than a Pokemon that trained in battle due to a lack of EVs. Even NPC dialogue supports that completely true fact. Not a terrible rule to live by; it used to be my rule before Pitch got me into battling competitively then I started giving a damn about EVs and finally IVs. It's a blessing and a curse. I would definitely see about getting any Pokemon that are approaching level 100 an effort ribbon at least so that you know for absolute sure that all possible EVs are at least somewhere on the Pokemon so that no potential is wasted. In some cases, say, against a trainer (who can be rematched) that's got some pretty rockin' Pokemon like Red in SS/HG, although you're a few levels up, a lack of EVs can make a noticeable difference in any Pokemon. Stats are always at work whether you like it or not. No need to give a crap about IVs though. Them things are more trouble than they're worth for a mainstory gamer.

I will admit that worrying about 5 levels is a bit crazy if you aren't entering tournaments. But where I'm from, people cross breed to transfer natures, and so I get caught up in all that nonsense when it really isn't my thing.
But I will agree that Pokemon music is some of the best. It's right up in my ranks with Kirby and Klonoa.

But where I'm from, people cross breed to transfer natures, and so I get caught up in all that nonsense when it really isn't my thing. That's just scratching the surface though! There's also using Battle Anklets to transfer IVs while at the same time crossbreeding natures. And oftentimes, I bred with two parents and I wanted two separate IVs from both of them. So that means relying on 50% RNG for the nature, and what, another 25% of getting the second IV I want, with the battle anklet giving a 100% shot at always getting its corresponding IV? I remember all of the breeding like it was yesterday. I may have haxed a lot of items, but as far as getting my battle pokemon went, I did all of that legitly. What bothered me was that using battle anklets to transfer IVs at a 100% ratio didn't come until HG/SS, so I couldn't do most of my breeding in Platinum like I wanted. Tons of Pokemon trades resulted as well.

I didn't care much about getting pokemon with good natures, EVs and IVs until this generation, seeing how hard was to get a pokemon with good stats normally. Now in Gen VI, it's so much easier... But I always found interesting to read about EVs, IVs, and all these mechanics. So much detail was put into them....
I don't play competitively either. My EV training is mostly for Battle Maison XD . I didn't get that much far in there yet, though.
What I like most about the games is going through the main story. Collecting badges, defeating the evil team and clearing the Pokemon League. Then, I like collecting, breeding and trading. It's nice to have pokemon with some good IVs to trade away. And of course, I love the music!
Speaking of trading, does anyone here have HA female pokemon in Dream Balls? I'm still trying to complete my Dream Ball collection.

Fatman X. Jones: how does one set up a gym? What can be configured? Do trainers earn exp by defeating the pokemon, or is it like online battles?
