The price looks better than what you can buy a 3DSXL for now, but will it play the old DS games?

It's still a 3DS, so I'd say yes. It's got a new CPU, too, allowing for newer 3DS games to take exclusive advantage of that; one of the games announced just for this revision (i.e, it won't work on old 3DSes) is a Xenoblade Chronicles port to 3DS.

Mixed feelings. I find myself lacking the desire or funds to stay up to date with gaming consoles. Right now, my ambassador-old 3DS is literally the latest system I have, the one before that being the Nintendo Wii. Haven't even touched Sony consoles since Playstation 2. Overall, I guess it's nice to see activity on Nintendo's part. I never had a problem with my 3DS's battery life btw. I don't know why so many people gripped about it.

Considering the fact that I delayed getting a 3DS until I felt one was upgraded enough for me to purchase....yeah, this burns me a bit. I got my 3DS XL last year, only to find out that its now obsolete for select future games that will be for New 3DS only. I can't shelve out money again because I'm still holding onto getting a Wii U and other things.
Im hoping those exclusive games aren't any big ones i'd really want...because i'm rather paranoid about it now.

I think the only way I'd put money down on this is if I were using it as a very expensive means of fixing the faulty buttons on my DS Lite. That would be the equivalent of getting stuck at a vacation spot for longer than anticipated and buying an entirely new outfit instead of washing the clothes I packed for the trip. As of now I've already beaten this machine's only exclusive title, so I wouldn't be snagging it for the killer apps or anything. It's apparently still region-locked, too, which is a bummer but evidently unsurprising.

Looking forward to it, especially since my 3DS is starting to fall apart. Wondering if I should get the LL/XL or stick with the normal size.

The only feature that caught my attention was the longer battery life. I had no plans for buying it... But I told my mother about it and now she wants it!

As for region-locking, well, if Smealum--the homebrew hacker working on an exploit for region-free gaming and homebrew for 3DS--does indeed find no problem in running his exploit on the new 3DS hardware as well as the old, that might very well not be a problem in the first place.

Yes, Pokemon. That's what got my mother addicted . Oh I didn't know about that. I'm not keeping up with the 3DS homebrew scene. I hope it comes true, because there's a Japan exclusive game I'm really, really wanting for quite some time. It's called Daigasso! Band Brothers P, a music game where you can "play" instruments and even create your own songs, as well as download songs others have created (in its predecessor, Band Brothers DX - also known as Jam With the Band -, a lot of anime and game music was available). Now it even comes with the VOCALOID voice synthesizer to sing the Japanese lyrics.

It would probably involve putting it in a safe for 20-30 years and then reselling the bundle in mint, factory-sealed condition for something like double what you put down on it.

After 30 years, it'll likely be considered a relic and be worth much more. Fatman Jones, maybe she's enraged at the 3DS because of that game that didn't come out (yet)...

I'm not enraged, either. Gaming just isn't something I would list if you were to ask me about my interests. Enraged would be more like if I were to say, "I hate gaming! Everyone who likes it really sucks! I hate it so much that I'm going to punch a hole in the wall!" If gaming enraged me, I probably wouldn't be here. Right now I'm focusing on beating every game I own and making a crapload of money selling them as I go. As a kid I was as meticulous as most game collectors are now about keeping the boxes in good condition, so I'm sitting on a decent mount of money. I just really hate the idea of starting things and not finishing them, so I didn't just sell them all at once. It'd be most accurate to say I just like Mega Man Legends. It figures that the games I own with the highest sellback value are the only ones I'd never sell, right? I'd buy any system to play a Mega Man Legends game, but that's the only series that would entice me to buy anything. That, and wearing out the buttons to the point where I can't finish my DS library, because of the whole not-leaving-things-unfinished deal.

If gaming enraged me, I probably wouldn't be here. Actually, I meant the 3DS, not gaming. But whatever . Now, after the explanation about keeping the games in good condition and selling them, the thing about keeping the game in a safe to be sold later makes more sense . It took me a long time until I decided to buy a 3DS. I only bought it after I knew that a Pokemon game was coming (it's still the only 3DS game I have). I wanted to buy Project X Zone from the Eshop, it's a "sequel" to Namco X Capcom for PS2 (which I cleared. It's not for everyone, requiring lots and lots of patience). Okay, the story is absurd and sounds more like one of those crossover fan fictions, but there're huge amounts of Japanese voice acting (the US region game retains the Japanese voices), and X, Zero, the .hack characters, the NXC characters, and of course, the Servbots and Miss Tron (it's a pity that Volnutt isn't there)... But there's a currency conversion problem that's making the banks in my country block Eshop purchases. Besides Pokemon, the normal DS also had Rockman ZX. PS3 never appealed to me, no game for it interests me, and it can't even play PSX and PS2 games, so I'll stick to my good old PS2... Although it's already refusing to read PSX CDs... If it breaks, it's probably game over...

Seems like this is their DSi type of upgrade, although it should keep the DS slot whereas the DSi lost the GBA one. It's tempting since if it catches on, you know they'll start putting out more games exclusively for it. This is where I wish you could upgrade for a fraction of the cost instead of dropping another $150 or so like it will probably cost.
