Welp, this was inevitable. The threading behemoth of the Capcom flagship, Monster Hunter(!) finally get its own deserved thread. Generally speaking, the most common topics discussed will probably be related to Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate on the 3DS and Wii-U, as well as the upcoming (for the western regions, anyway) Monster Hunter 4, which will be 3DS-exclusive. Still, there's more than enough room for the older entries in the series, so don't you worry your pretty little heads about that. I was actually playing it on my 3DS today, and a friggin' qurupeco came to the genius and inspired conclusion that a deviljho would be excellent company for our already-prolonged battle.

I have thought about picking up on the game again sometime soon...even considered doing some camping in our camper, camping out on our property, and playing some monster hunter all the while. Even have a little grill to cook our Meat and dinner....Tasty.
And I remember fighting a higher ranked qurupeco out at the swamps....when he calls in a deviljho (of course). That combination is just bad, bad, bad....But somehow, we did succeed! But we played chicken 50% of the time.

Grrr....deviljho.... , that creature is a blight- nearly ruined me when I went after a c. qurupeco. It was satisfying to take down one of those brutes during a group hunt, a few nights back. At the moment, I've an HR 3 rank, and I'm looking to gather parts for better armor and weapons, but I've seem to have hit a plateau- haven't had much success in recent hunts..

How 'bout weapon preference? I used to be a Switch Axe guy, until I discovered the siren calling of Hammer Time and Gotcha' Bitch.

I still use switch axes, with Motor Burst being my best one, so far. I'm working on a set of Rath Soul armor. But hunting the azure rathalos is no easy task... especially with deviljho lumbering around the corner...

I started with Long Swords as soon as I could on the Wii version (back when you had to "unlock" it...), loved it for the swiftness and chaining combos. PA with fast attack speed and stun was my favorite thing back in the day...haven't had the luck making the same build on 3DS though. I blame some things being nerfed.
My 2nd weapon of choice became the Switch Axe...loved the versatility to switch weapon mods according to the current situation during a hunt. And Who doesn't love that upswing that then goes into a endless slash fest when your Stamina is maxed?
Lastly, but not least...the bow. The regular bow. Gave it a try after wanting something different and long distanced...Lots of fun making arrows rain from above, knocking down a rathalos who's about to flee out of the sky. Also a good challenge when playing with someone else, since you have to be mindful of not accidentally hitting them. Much like the LS with that, really.
The last weapon I tried was Dual Sword...not too bad, but I can see how they could have some major Cons....(Any fight underwater comes to mind)

Just killed a Lagiacrus by accident. I intended on capturing that damn thing, but I ended up finishing it off with the hammer's Beyblade attack.

I ended up finishing it off with the hammer's Beyblade attack. Usually after it's been a while of banging at the monster with my weapon, I just start doing weaker attacks, poking at it...waiting for any limp signs. It's pretty easy to accidentally kill it without seeing a single limp from it. Especially when they're about to limp but suddenly decide to go into full Agro mode.

I'm finding it easier to capture monsters- doing so yields better loot than just killing them, I'm finding.
I completed the Rath Soul suit, a few days ago. I like the earplugs and sharpness benefits, so that leaves getting a better weapon. I may do group hunts against the deviljho- I need only one talon to make a new Switch axe.

Nobody in my general region plays Monster Hunter, so I've always been going solo for hunts. I'd assume boss-monsters get some extra scaling for their HP, but does anything else change? Sounds like it'd be much more manageable with even 2+ players.

I imagine a little, depending on how many player are on the same hunt, otherwise things might have gotten boring... though try telling that to a PO'ed Deviljho...
Outside that, the tryannos ax is working better than I expected. In fact, I could upgrade it if I had one more deviljho saliva and a conquerer's seal.
For now, I'm chipping away at hunts that annoyed me prior to getting said ax.

I just got back into playing the game recently...Doing High rank with new Monsters is REALLY refreshing for me, especially since I went through MHtri formerly and are basically replaying the game on the 3DS. Some of the new monster breeds are really a interesting spin on older hunts. Also greatly enjoyed hunting Zinogre with his amazing acrobatic flips.
Now heres a good question. Hunters, If you've reached High rank...how much have/are you enjoying it compared to the normal rank?

I've always found it comparable to a NG+ option done well. You spend hours mastering the tricks and techniques that make most monsters a breeze, only to have a complete foodchain-reversal. Now, those techniques are mandatory for survival, and your previously ass-kicking gear is barely stopping you from getting a OHKO. It's a nice change of pace for a "reset" without actually resetting.

Now, those techniques are mandatory for survival, and your previously ass-kicking gear is barely stopping you from getting a OHKO. It's a nice change of pace for a "reset" without actually resetting. It adds replay value since you're now able to get better parts to upgrade your gear, but the trade-off of having the monsters getting a serious level-up can get a little aggravating. While I haven't played for a a while, I made a deviljho-based longsword and upgraded it (those monsters are such a pain, but making weapons from them is easier than most, I've found). Been working on an Ivory Lagiacrus U suit of armor, though getting parts is a bit troublesome. I found a way to combine for armor spheres, so when I do get back to MH, I'm thinking to focus a bit on upgrading armor via these spheres, little by little. Especially since I have to take down a Rust Duramboros..
