If you were in charge of pitching another Legends 3...

Would you try and fill in the blanks using what Capcom revealed about the Prototype, would you gut the whole thing and start from somewhere completely different, or would you try and aim for something in between the two?  What would you do differently with the story, and why?  

I'm not sure I'd want to keep Barrett as anything other than a one-off character, if even that.  Maybe you'd be able to play as Tron again instead, in the Donner Wels and on foot.  I'd always wanted to play as Tron on foot in MoTB.  Tron would be the one to meet the Bright Bats and essentially just function as Barrett--which would put a familiar character in that rival role so many people seem to think some red dude belongs in.  The only thing I think wouldn't carry through too well would be Aero's crush on Barrett, which wouldn't be too big of a loss.  Maybe it could turn into more of an auxiliary trait where she's got this goofy crush on some celebrity she mentions every so often.  

Either that, or the tutorial level could come from a flashback on Elyisum about Trigger in his purifier days and involve a rocket construction from the OTHER side.  There might be some kind of machine that created system units up there...the units had to have come from somewhere, right?  Especially the lower tiers like Servitors.  Or they could just try and find some other power source, too.  It'd be pretty ironic if, after all this time, the rocket project was all in vain and Mega Man found a way back to Terra on his own.

Well, the idea I was having involved a bit of stuff of my own and what was thrown into the prototype version, so here is what was in my mind: storywise, in Elysium, Mega Man, with assistance from Yuna and Sera, is fighting his way through "particular" yet hostile Reaverbots, who had been activated by a system adjacent to the one waking up the machines back on Terra, journeying to familiar and new places in Elysium, attaining new weaponry and gadgets in the process, reaching the Core of Elysium in order to shutdown said system without undesirable consequences.

Meanwhile on Terra, Roll becomes aware of these new machines, that turned out to be primordial, technologically complex yet powerful Reaverbots, built as a backup plan to wipe out the Carbons, and she asks the Bright Brats for help in stopping them, and Roll deduces that the technology used for these Reaverbots can be used to build a solid rocket and briefs the Brats about this, the Bonnes work as the anti heroes of the game because while they want to assist Roll in her quest (with Tron having the same desire), they bicker with the Brats because of a seperate incident between them, Glyde makes a return, as he wants harness the technology for himself, though the seriousness of his character as small antagonist from MML2 is retained, Bola and Klaymoor are neutral and fight against the Reaverbots in self defense, though they confront the Brats because of a seperate incident (since the Brats are...brats and once in a while do brat stuff).

That's what I was thinking.

I would definitely be on the same storyline and same setting, but I would have a few additions. Only the first mission or 2 would be about megaman getting back to terra, which would also include the tutorial. With me, there would be more mystery about the ruins and reaverbots in the game, which this time would come to be solved. Maybe have another catastrophic event too, and even the return of eden maybe. All dreams though...

Simple. We'll need quick-time events, intrusive and unnecessary co-op, paid DLC on the day of release, a mediocre soundtrack consisting 85% of dubstep, regenerating health and a storyline that tries way too hard in order to be serious, but ends up falling flat on its face.

I'd totally be for the idea of multiple playable characters aside from Volnutt and Barrett, especially if it allowed me to control Tron and Teisel. Thinking back, wasn't MML2 originally going to allow you to play as the Bonne family, too? I remember seeing the incomplete assets on a screenshot somewhere, but I could be mistaken.

Allowing the player to choose their spotter before entering a ruin would be an awesome addition. Same with allowing the selected digger to banter with their spotter, instead of merely remaining mute for the majority of the venture. Just imagine the conversations between Volnutt and Teisel when going up against a boss Reaverbot! It'd be like the Geetz battle all over again. Hell, you could even do a role reversal and have Roll as the digger and Volnutt as the spotter. I'd bet Blondie wouldn't find getting trapped down there for days so humorous now.

Oh man, customizing digger/spotter pairs would be a real trip! Especially if you choose a spotter who isn't very good at spotting. I could picture Mega Man just going, "Uh, I'm not sure what this button does. I think I'm going to try pressing it..."

"Oh no! Why is there even a cup holder eject button on the dashboard in the first place? Now there's soda all over the...HEY! DATA! I NEED SOME PAPER TOWELS!!!"

And not one line of commentary is even remotely relevant to the stuff appearing on the radar.

Imagine if you had Data as a Spotter, and chose anybody other than Volnutt as your Digger. Just nothing but "Ee-Ee!" and maybe the occasional "Ook!"

Personally, I wouldn't change a thing in terms of approach, instead I would add to it.

I would keep Barrett as the only playable character of the Prototype edition just so that everyone can get used to him and the Bright Bats. But, I would implement save transfer data ala most 3DS RPG demos. So that when you buy the complete edition, (if the prototype sells well WHICH IT DAMN STRAIGHT WOULD,) you can either

A: Start a second file and play as Megaman Volnutt like anybody would, or,
B: Continue Barrett's story from any possible cliffhangers from the Prototype.

From there, you can still play that $2 prototype edition to find and collect exclusive content you can only find in the prototype, and send them over to the full game. Maybe send them over by talking to Pic or talking to Tinker.

I'd have the Prototype edition only allow you one save, but give Legends 3 as many save files as project X Zone. So that you could start several adventures just to compare difficulties like you used to in Legends 1 and 2.

And finally, while the Prototype will only give you the brand new Klicklean Island to explore, I would give the full game several new locations and ruins to explore. Like Legends 2 had. That way the adventure doesn't get too stale for newcomers.

I only have one idea so far. Expand the range of items. Because let's face it, the only items we actually USE are Health Restoration items and the like. What we need is a wider variety of options to chose from, something to support Diggers in combative situations. I honestly have no clue what exactly they would use in their day and age, but you still have to admit, usable Items are seriously neglected.

CUSTOMIZATION... I'm sorry but I always say that some customization is a good thing to keep a player having a different gameplay experience. And before you say "But we have the buster..." yes. We do have the Buster Gun but it doesn't offer that many possibilities don't you think? I would like something "outside of the box". By that I mean something that the player made that even the developer wouldn't think of. So each player would have a different configuration according to their gameplay style that they are most comfortable with, rather than searching for the best combination or a balanced equip.

For example, equipment parts. MML2 was on the good way except the fact that the only things that it offers are defense boosts (Although all the shoes were nice). I believe that 5-island adventure had a wider array of equipment and stats, but If you ask me, it could be done better.

I think I wrote about this on the Devroom (back when MML3 was still going) but I am too lazy to go back there to get it (that and I haven't been at Capcom Unity ever since MML3 was cancelled). So I will have to summarize here with a few examples:

- For instance, think about the equips as they were from MMX armor parts. Each part usually boosts or gives a new ability according to a pattern in every X game: Leg parts for movement, Arm parts for shooting, Armor parts for defense, and Helmet parts for miscellaneous abilities.

Legends could have a system like this, but instead of just one combination of parts you could craft/buy/find many different equips for you to get. Let me show you some examples:

Lantern Helmet - Illuminates the area around you, makes you more easy to find by Reaverbots.
Radar helmet - Fills the map easier and detects location of doors and chests trough the map screen.
Web Legs - Allows to hold on on walls (no wallkick because honestly, you don't need it)
Stomp Legs - Execute a stomping attack when not equipping a special weapon.

Of course that there could be enhancements to each of the parts, lets say for example Radar helmet(+) would instantly give you the map of a room once you enter it, or that Web Legs(+) would allow you to attack while holding on to a wall, and so forth.

- Maximum weight system. Basically what it says. If in the Buster gun you can only equip 2 (and later 3) parts at a time, You can also play around the equipment you have to not go over the maximum weight allowed (much like most RPGs and MMOs), here, the different armor parts would be useful to increase Megaman's strength in order to allow him to carry more items rather than just being a defense boost.
And while on the topic of armors, instead of they just having an increase in defense, let's have them have resistance to specific attacks (elemental, physical, etc...) or even provide a buff when hit by a specific attack. (again, like most RPGs)
Note: Key items and large refractors would not count towards the weight count, obviously.

- More items. The backpack could be filled with various items and (dare I say this) the way the items would be displayed could play like most recent games... AKA "do you remember Tetris?". The shape of the item would be placed in a grid and you could rotate it, flip it, in order to fit everything you need.
On items, you could have health items (that MML2 had), items to attack and/or set traps OUTSIDE of the Buster/special weapon combo (Honestly, why not?). You could probably have some miscellaneous items that would aid you during explorations. Like for example a tracker to trance Reaverbot signatures, or a hotspot to locate a specific spot within the map that you might want to come back or that you feel that it is important... and so on.

- Variation of attacks. This is not 100% original from my end. I've seen a concept of this on Project Legends and I thought of expanding it a little. Arm parts would allow Megaman's Buster gun to fire different shapes of blasts, elemental bullets, spread shots, etc. And also increasing a little the overall stats on the special weapon equipped.
Speaking of special weapons, I bet that most of us when playing MML for the first time, felt regretted of bringing a certain special weapon for a dungeon ( Not a smart idea to fight the Karumuna Bash trio with grenades, believe me). So why not carry two? Wait, hear me out.
remember when in MML2 Data occasionally appears in crucial spots within the dungeon. So ask Data to carry one Special Weapon for you and switch it whenever you want if you find Data.

Dang these are some great ideas. Love the idea about choosing spotters there. But yeah I'd personally try and tie up some loose ends. By starting the game off with a brief overview of events that happened in Legends 2. Then we would take back to Terra with Roll thinking with Tron as they had left it about the rocket. If including Barret in this, having him possibly be used as a "Temp" character to get you used to the controls would be a great call. So later after some time with messing around, you get to go back to Elysium and mess around with Mega Man who has similar attacks and traits, yet not everything that Barret would have. The story however, could possibly tie in some events from Mega Man X,MMZ,and the ZX series. Focusing on the true origin of the reverbot eye. And the term "Mega Men". There could be a new Master like figure who plans to basically re unite all of these legendary mega men figures which awakens basically. These guardian robots aka the new reverbots. But in doing so, it causes a strange tie between Elysium and Earth.

I would say having more human like bosses which would be these strange mega men. Many of them could recall Trigger. As for what the reverbots beside being guardians were for. They were all part of the reinitialization which Juno had placed forth. Perhaps a cabinet he worked with to discuss plans and procedures.

Story and such out of the way though. Customization has been one thing in Legends games that really stood out to me. You were able to find parts and make new things with it. Making Legends 3 far more sandbox like with the system could be interesting. You could mix and match parts to make new unique weapons, upgrade your normal buster gun far over the normal energy upgrades. Heh having a charging ability for the buster if equipped able to be used by pushing another key would be nice.
