Now that Hideo Kojima has stopped screwing around with the minds of everybody within the Metal Gear fanbase, a true sequel prequel to the Metal Gear series has been officially announced. It appears that both the somewhat-recently announced Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain will make up the entirety of MGS5. Whether this means we'll be getting "two games for the price of one" remains to be seen, but I have complete confidence in anything Hideo Kojima produces. Source: Joystiq

Thanks for sharing Kyle. I was fairly skeptical about the story when I saw the trailer for Ground Zeros awhile ago, but Phantom Pain definitely looks a lot more interesting. At the very least, it's neat to see cowboy Ocelot (I think), and Snake with a fake hand. You know, as soon as I read the part about the coma, I remembered Liquid's haunting words in MGS1 about how "Father was in a coma when they brought him in" to extract his cells for cloning.
I hope Kojima finally makes good on his promise about the "missing link" between MGS and Outer Heaven cause it's been two PSP games and it seems Big Boss' story just keeps getting more and more and more off track with only slight nods at MGS.

Actually, the Les Enfants Terribles project took place in 1972, while Big Boss had entered his coma for The Phantom Pain at around 1974-1975. However, his first coma was not retconned, so his second coma will have nothing to do with Solid Snake or Liquid Snake's birth. So, uh, yeah. Big Boss had a nasty habit of slipping into comas when he was middle aged.

I don't even remember Snake having a first coma. >_> Oh, and in the trailer, it looks somebody bombed Mother Base so I guess Snake's mercenary stint is temporarily over? I can't say I'm sad to see MSF go. I never liked the new names they give to old organizations in every new game. What's wrong with calling yourselves the Patriots and Outer Heaven? The names kinda lose their significance when they're changed all the time.

The Outer Heaven in the first Metal Gear game is north of Galzburg in South Africa. And finally, Outer Heaven is a night club in Snatcher.

Oh, and let's not forget the Outer Heaven in Zanzibar. I laughed out loud at the last one. I gotta check that game out someday. It's the one about Space Police or something if I recall correctly? Edit: Oh, and hey HF. I just caught up on your DASH comic. I'll leave a comment at your thread later. Keep it up!

The Space Police one you're probably thinking of is Policenauts. Which gave this memorable theme of all PS1 owners:

I owned a PS1 but never even heard of Snatcher and Policenauts back then. Then again, I grew up thinking FF8 was the best RPG ever. But that theme's actually pretty catchy. Like a lot of synthesizer tunes from old games. Do-do-do-doo-do-doo~ My bro and I spent hours on this game cause we got a lot of hand-me-down consoles from our much older cousins.

Though I was thinking more along the lines of the theme being the basis for this. Speaking of Konami, I recently bought an SFC/SNES USB gamepad to play Turtles in Time with. Why are they the only ones to make good Ninja Turtle games (the Reshelled version for Xbox Live just didn't feel right)?

It's a pretty good choice. Of all the SNES games I played (more hand-me-downs), I actually never played Turtles in Time. I heard it was pretty good though.

I'm just after rewatching the trailer, since it's filled to the brim with foreshadowing and allusions. I won't spoil anything, since most of the fun involves finding them, but there are some minor attentions to detail that really make it feel like a Metal Gear game. For example. The left side is taken just after Big Boss goes into a coma, and the right side is when he wakes up nine years after. Look familiar?

Hmmmmm... Is that Eva? I haven't adapted well to the very realistic graphics.

Nein. Just a normal nurse. By 'minor details', I was talking about how it's the same nurse in both scenes, but she's visibly aged. There's a nine year gap in between, so... yeah.

I was looking too deeply into it. Snake sure has it pretty rough. No wonder his ideas became as extreme as they did.
