Nintendo had a somewhat mediocre showing a few days ago. I like two of their own offerings (Pikmin and NSMB Wii U) as well as a couple of other titles like P-100 and Rayman Legends, but I just felt like after that year long wait, there would have been more on it. I guess they were so busy trying to build up the 3DS in the last year, which had the best showing of any platform to me, that they just were spread out too thin.
I think that those that were expecting Zelda or Kirby were kind of crazy considering they both just had releases on the Wii in the last eight months or so. Honestly, the biggest bummer was Retro's game not being ready to be shown, but then again, Nintendo said that the games they did show were launch window titles. I don't expect much more right away, so the price will really matter to me once it's finally announced.
As for the other companies, Sony really blew it with the Vita. I was expecting to hear about the games coming out for it, but they decided to spend their time on Wonderbook instead. While I know there were games on the show floor for it, Sony really needed to make a push in their press conference instead of relegating it to unnecessary handheld the way they did. Like I said, Nintendo really pushed the 3DS while people were complaining on message boards about the Wii U, but Sony had just as poor of a showing because of their struggling handheld. PS3 showing was nice and the best of the consoles to me, but this was a down year.
As for the best company at E3? That honor goes to Ubisoft of all teams. They really brought out the goods for the show, and it looks like they'll have an impressive 2012 and 2013 with the titles they have planned out. They were covering platformers, shooters, party games that I don't care about but others might... They were really clicking on all cylinders there. Good for them.

Sounds like Ubisoft really did well at E3 and that they may have an impressive two years ahead. It also seems that Sony didn't do so well either.

They were fine with the PS3. I was just confused by their Vita strategy was all. Compare it to Nintendo, and it's pretty clear who had the better handheld showing. Also, a lot of my complaints about Nintendo's E3 have since been addressed in their Nintendo Direct conference they had a few days ago.
They're also planning on finally revealing the price and some more of the games for the Wii U around the end of the summer if I was reading things right.

I'm not really sure if this is an announcement or not, but nobody seems to have posted this and I believe everyone interested should see it. Thus, here you go! (Also... I guess that this is a spoiler of the intro, so INTRO SPOILERS WARNING.) --- www.ign.com/articles/2012/07/20/report-final-fantasy-versus-xiii-cancelled"Final Fantasy XIII Versus" cancelled... IN SECRET! Left as vaporware! At least Capcom had the guts to officially announce MegaMan Legends 3's cancellation. The worst part is that, since it hasn't officially been declared cancelled, the sealing factor remains unbroken and uncertainty continues for something that should be certain. *Rages from the inside*

So New Super Mario Bros. 2 comes out tomorrow for the 3DS. Is anyone planning on picking it up? I get that it's more of the same, but being a Mega Man fan, being same-y is fine if it turns out to be fun, and that's one thing that 2D Mario games usually excel at.

I don't care if it was made by a Mario Cram School and not by Team EAD A (Or EAD B for that matter), it's a 2D Side-Scrolling Mario Game so I'm getting it. I know it will be better than what other people say.

For reference, the Mario Cram School made the original NSMB for the DS. I happened to really like that one, and reviews are saying it's better than that one, so call me excited. I'm going with the retail version on this. Something about having a physical copy that I enjoy more than a digital one.

I wonder if the Metal Gear Rising demo will have any effect on the game like MGS2's demo did for the original Zone of the Enders.

Well I got the premium package as hoped and got a chance to have a look at it (didn't get a chance to play it yet, leaving it for over the weekend). The package comes with 2 large artbooks; each with a glossy finish on the cover, giving it a very classy feel that matches the glossy gold box that it came in. Contents of the books ranged from in-depth descriptions, concept art, interviews with key staff (directors, voice actors, concept designers, etc). There is also a small handbook-sized copy of sceneplays/script sets showing the animation drafts, which is a nice touch in the set. As implied, the books themselves are huge, one of the two even exceeds the Peace Walker concept book by volume. For anyone interested: Despite its high mark-up, Play-Asia is currently offering free shipping for this premium package. Considering its contents, even this price more or less balances it all out.

Attention-detracting box art? Gee, where have I seen that before? Personally, I'm a little on the fence about investing in this HD collection. I loved the Zone Of The Enders series, but I can't help but think about some of the technical issues that Konami's Silent Hill HD collection had. e.g. buggy textures, frame-rate drops, etc. Though, they do claim that it runs at a steady 60fps, so maybe I'm just being too cynical. Even though all of those extra goodies just incentivize me to buy the game for the wrong reasons.

Except Capcom of America has the right mindset to put the promotional mark in a corner instead of obscuring the face of the main image. Also, JP Box Art Master Race. The only note about the MGR demo came in the form of a separate leaflet inside the disc box. Save for the pre-rendered cutscenes of the first game and the "ADA" loading animation, I didn't feel any framerate drops when playing it. I have been playing it over the evening, and so far it's been pretty smooth (even the first game feels that way). The only 'problem' I have with it is the fuzzy pre-rendered cutscenes due to upscaling (and even that is probably intentional to show its age; it's been implied in the HD opening alone that KojiPro wants Anubis to be the 'main story' anyway). As for 'wrong reasons', there is always the normal release to try the game out with. Besides, Silent Hill HD was a sloppy port for a good reason; a reason which KojiPro did not have with ZOE HD from the looks of it. Update: The framerate drop issue seems to have been going around online, though I didn't feel like it hampered me personally. As they're not disastrous bugs like with Silent Hill, what little helpful information there is available seems to be insufficient to make a case to submit to KojiPro. In other news, looks like a new cabinet design is being used for the re-release/remake/sequel of DDR. From the looks of the image, it looks like they're finally ditching the CRT display for the old but long-lasting design used since DDR1 and going for an LCD monitor like the one used for DanceEvo and SV.

E.X. Troopers just bombed in Japan. It wound up selling a whopping 26,000 copies across the 3DS and PS3 this week. The reason I bring this up is that I believe the game was built off of the same engine that MML3 was going to use. It looked like a fun game, but it was a spinoff to a franchise that has been trending down in Lost Planet.
It never had plans of leaving Japan either, but barring a big turnaround, it looks like this was a game that few wanted.

And that is related to the sales how, exactly? In more positive news, Konami's pop'n music just confirmed a comeback to Asia game centers. Their facebook page seems to be hinting at more arcade releases overseas as well (hoping they would actually bring in the flashy SV arcade machines). Seriously, this thing:

It's not, although in the back of my head, I'm thinking that one would have easily outsold the other. I'm actually more annoyed with how they made Troopers game harder to bring over here than anything since it did look good.
