What motivates them? One of the reasons might have been the legend of the Mother Lode and Diggers hoped that they could one day find it and became extremely rich and wealthy.
Otherwise, I think that money, fame, the thrill of going through the ruins and having to fight the reaverbots, adventure, family tradition and maybe even the combination of these.

What motivates the Diggers? Well, you see, it varies. Thanks again, Rai! (Hey, no one said it yet. Cool.)

Yes! Classic. It's nice to think that Rock does what he does just to get by. Megaman doesn't seem to do it be rich or solve mysteries like Bluecher or Barrel. I think he just does it for fun and for Roll.

He enjoys thwarting apocalyptic plans that could have lead to absolute genocide? Man, talk about a masochistic adrenaline-junkie. I'm pretty sure his job as a Digger is just to sustain his family. I mean, you've seen how much money Roll needed for "the Flutter's new engine", right? That thing must cost a pretty penny to maintain. Or at least, that's what Roll says....

Come on, he's Megaman! Of course he's having fun. He may not necessarily enjoy some of the more traumatic things that go with it, but the degree to which those things affect him depends on the player, and saving the universe does NOT come with the territory of being a digger.
Blame it on the name, man. Blame it on the name.

Why stay inside an airship with nothing to do when you could be shooting at reaverbots and risk getting yourself killed? Sounds better than having to hear Roll talk about money problems and how the Flutter always needs a fix. Of course, everything that happened to Trigger was just bad luck (or good luck?). An adventurous and confident digger sounds better on paper than anything else.

BlastMandrill: Minor note, but Volnutt is an equally acceptable name to use. Trigger was his designated name back during his Purifier days. When Barrell found him on Terra, Volnutt/Trigger had lost all previous memories. Since then, his Carbon name has been Volnutt. Or Rock, Blue-Boy, Hippopotamus, etc. There's actually many different names you could use.

WINNER!
Forget all that equally-good-name stuff, from now on everyone in the thread must call him Hippopotamus, or Hips for short.
In all seriousness though I think your right about it also just being something to do. If I wasn't a coward and I lived in the legends universe I'd be shootin' up Reaverbots and finding awesome treasure everyday!

In the beginning of the Megaman series, wasn't it explained that Megaman was created by Dr. Light by turning Megaman from Helper robot to a Fighting type? Thats my understanding of his origins. :21:

Each one is unique to their own series and is totally different from the rest. The Mega Man from the Classic series, and the Mega Man from MML are two entirely different beings. Edit: Maybe this post has been a little vague. I was trying to say that Volnutt/Trigger is the only Mega Man in the Legends series. (sans Juno)

I was trying to point out that since the name "Volnutt" given to the Megaman from the Classic series and that the name "Trigger" is given to the Megaman from MML, it is appropriate to call Megaman "Trigger" in referencing MML.

Classic Megaman was never once referred to as "Volnutt". "Volnutt" is Megaman in MML's last name from the point that he was discovered by Barrell onwards. Sera, Juno, Yuna, etc. refer to him as "Trigger" because they still identify him as the purifier that he was back then; even though he's technically not anymore.
Make sense? Personally, I still call him Volnutt because it's a lot more warm and inviting than Trigger.
The biggest point though? Classic Megaman was always referred to as "Megaman", or by most of us, "Classic Megaman". Never Volnutt.

Now you're just being ridiculous. Just to reinforce Kyle and Mikey's statements, "Volnutt" is a Legends-exclusive (sur)name given to the main character of the series. There has been no statements, implications, nor evidence in any other game that refers to any other Megaman as "Volnutt". If you still insist on this, please prove me wrong.

The other name that Classic Mega Man goes by is Rock, sometimes Rock Light.
Legends Mega Man goes by the name of MegaMan Volnutt by the Casketts, but his actual name is MegaMan Trigger and he's part of the system.
Even though they are all wear blue armour and go by the name of Mega Man, none of the Mega Men are actually the same person.
